Very good
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleWe stayed at The Morritt for two nights and both nights chose to eat in the Gilroy's Restaurant. We really enjoyed our meal. Good choice, good value for money and efficient and very friendly service. Lovely room with plenty of room, Nice décor and very comfortable. The cheerful waiting staff really were a bonus - nothing too much trouble. Would eat here more often if we lived nearer!
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleGreat value both at breakfast and dinner - good choice of food ad staff were excellent especially Michelle. Room 7 was really nice and our friends were in room 8 which was also a good size but said that they would have liked a wardrobe in bedrom
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleBoth dinner and breakfast were excellent with unique recipes developed by the chef for dinner. Unbelievably good value for money
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleGreat staff, excellent service and a tasty meal
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleLovely relaxed atmosphere in the hotel . All that staff were friendly and chatty - very attentive and saw that we had everything we needed . Lovely room overlooking the garden. Would love to return to the hotel and would certainly eat in the restaurant or bar .
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleNice surroundings and good service but my sea bass was small and very over cooked. My colleagues felt their food was ok but they had had better.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleUnfortunately we were exceptionally dissatisfied, one room was nice however the other room was poor. It had clearly been painted but unfortunately to a low standard and the room smelt of paint. Out of three box sash windows one function correctly, one acted as a guillotine and other didn’t lock!! The door into the room didn’t close itself which it should as it’s a fire door with a door closer. Very disappointed. As for the food, well out of the the pies ordered none of the pastry was edible as it was so hard, I will say the filling was lovely though. The custard slice was not edible either and was sent back, yet we were charged full price!! I will say every member of staff we encountered either at reception or in the restaurant were lovely.

Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleWe came for afternoon tea on Sunday for my mother’s 90th birthday and I have to say the service was brilliant, thank you. However, I must be honest and say that I was disappointed with the food, it was nothing like the wonderful sample menu that’s on your website or the photographs other people had posted on line. The ham, tuna and egg sandwiches were very basic, the fruit scone, brownie and coffee cake weren’t very nice at all to be honest, and we weren’t sure what the other two things were or even if they were sweet or savoury which was a bit disconcerting. Overall, the standard was pretty poor in comparison to other places near by. I appreciate that there was a wedding on the same day but that shouldn’t have affected the quality of our food. I think there’s a huge discrepancy between the sample menu, photographs, and what you actually serve and this needs to be rectified so that customers can have realistic expectations.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleThe service was fantastic and we loved the old building and grounds but for the price the food was average . Soufflé was stodgy , no fresh vegetables with the lamb . It all tasted like it had been warmed up . In fairness there was a wedding on and it’s the bank holiday so given location and excellent service I wouldn’t rule out giving it another go on a quieter night
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleAmazing and relaxing day at spa including lunch. The staff are very friendly especially lady in restaurant. The spa facility was great too. Very relaxing moments with glass of Prosecco. Thank you for amazing time, we would definitely recommend this place to friends.

Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleFour of us had dinner on two consecutive evenings which we found most enjoyable in every respect. The service was friendly, positive and efficient: the menu offered a good choice of varied food styles and all courses were well prepared and presented. Truly in the best tradition of a coaching inn as it historically was.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleLunch at 14.00hrs on Saturday , 20th May, 2023, was very accommodating and provided three perfect Fillet Steaks for three hungry visitors. The perfect Service was provided by all of the Staff that we met and Rhiann was a cheerful and chatty Waitress.
