This is by far the best Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at. The food is always great and Danny (the owner) and his staff are always welcoming. It's a friendly place, with very good food.

Just returned from the Barum Gate in barnstaple and still fuming. I treated my daughter to a birthday meal and wish i hadn't bothered. A simple order: two starters and four mains. One starter didn't turn up, 40 mins later and the incomplete main courses showed up and my wife's favourite well done steak was stone cold. Very unhappy. Not one to cause a fuss i reluctantly paid the bill hoping someone would ask "how was your'e meal". No such luck so I will have to make it my mission to not recommend this place to anyone. Shame really, used to dine here all the time before the re-furb.

Excellent value for money with friendly service. The food is first class and they have a range of dishes for all tastes.

We went to the newly refurbished Barum Gate to be nicely surprised the fish are chips were wonderful, fish was succulent and for the first time anywhere in a very long time did i send compliments to the chef. It was also extremely reasonably priced

On a previous visit to Barum Gate with a colleague I was very disappointed with the service, Food, and Ambience.I put my complaint in writing, and it was taken seriously. It has since been completely transformed, and along with my partner, daughter, her husband and 3 grandchildren, we recently went for a meal, and everything was just perfect,and I would be pleased to recommend it to all my family members when they visit, colleagues and friends. Well Done to all the staff and everyone who made this transformation.

Our visit today was very enjoyable and as a locals have always been very satisfied with both the food and the service provided. I would recommend it to my friends, even though today 2 roast potatoes on my wifes plate were cold, we did not let that spoil our meal, and the staff were very apologetic. We will certainly be paying further visits in the future.

The service at the Honeymoon is always excellent and the food is delicious. A wide choice of vegetarian and meat dishes at good prices, with the take away price being even better value for money.

The food at the Jack Russell is usually very pleasant if you do not go on a Friday or Saturday. The lunch time sandwiches and jacket potatoes are very well filled and fresh. Sadly, of an evening the pub is very understaffed in the dining room, with only one waitress working. Although she is very pleasant and helpful, she is run off her feet and for this reason it often takes a long time to get served. We have usually enjoyed a nice but not outstanding meal, with vegetarian, fish and meat options available. You get a good sized portion, also. This quality tends to take a dip, as mentioned, on weekend evenings. Recently some friends had an issue with under cooked lamb; when they sent it back the same meat was recooked and whacked back on the plate to be returned to the table, when they complained nothing was done by management. In short, this could be a really good local pub, but is still has a way to go to get there.

i have eaten at the old barn in on many occasions with family and friends and have found it a lovely place the food is all fresh and the staff are very friendly. I would recommend the old barn inn to EVERYONE im a regular and a local and may i suggest try there sunday lunch its fab ... anna03/05/07

Excellent food and great beer, the only complaint would be the time between the starter and the main, didn? really have time to finish chewing on the starter before the main came.

Eat at many Brewers Fayres and have to say this one is a cut above the rest, friendly helpful team and tasty food. Good value food though bar prices slightly dearer than average

So glad we found this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday. The staff were great and the food was fantastic. As a veggie, Chinese food can be a little uninspiring but not here. I had the most delicious pepper mushrooms followed by Singapore noodles. Please please open in West Cornwall!

excellent staff and a wide range on the menu

Good family eating place with an excellent choice of food (and a carvery) at reasonable prices. A good choice of beers also. Not the place for a quiet tete a tete though.

Convenient for us as local residents. No smoking area appreciated. Children running in and out of rear doors in winter lower the temperature and uncontrolled behaviour spoils the ambience. The food is always good but the menu does not change much. The present restaurant/bar manager is more active and pleasant than his predecessors. Fiends/relatives whom we have booked in with you have all been happy with everything. Generally nice and clean and hygienic. Best wishes A.E.Coleman
