A Tynemouth Trio

(Guest Blog-Newcastle) Weekends often see us heading across to Tynemouth for a late lunch or early supper. It is usually Saturday, we have our dog with us, so we need somewhere easy to access (our dog is old). Parking can be a bit of a pain but it gives the old dear a chance to stretch her legs. Allard’s Lounge Our number one choice is Allard’s Lounge. There is sometimes a bit of a wait for a table, but we usually manage within 10 minutes or so, and it is well worth the wait for the food. Perusing the menus with a glass of wine and deciding whether to go for a selection of Tapas, the divine sharing Paella for 2, or a deliciously tender Rib Eye is all part of the fun, and boy are those chips and onion rings delicious. It is easy to stretch the Paella to 3 people by the addition of a portion or two of tapas (prawns and squid for example). Madame Canine is brought fresh water and lots of attention from the waitresses. Wine selection is good, and we usually go for a Berri Estates Shiraz. And I love the ‘Jolly Roger’ wallpaper. The available menu seems to differ depending on the time of day, but the tapas menu is always available. Lunchtime paninis and specials give way to sharing plates to nibble with your drinks as darkness falls. Meanwhile Her Ladyship is once again treated to fresh water and cuddles while we will guzzle a bottle or two of Rioja. Bare wooden floors, comfy sofas and an eclectic selection of chairs and benches around the table. Good ales on tap, decent wines and great food. The menu is short but sweet. A delicious rare beef salad, spicy wings, pies and burgers, as well as a sharing platter of steak or chicken, cheeseboards and seafood. The pampered one again got her water bowl, but I was on the water myself this time, so didn’t get to sample the wine. Stroll along Front Street after that walk on the beach and check it out.
