We stayed in the village for a celebration weekend and I booked a meal for the Saturday at Beswicks following some really lovely reviews...and I am so glad I did! We had a fantastic evening, from the pre-meal drinks in the lounge to the actuall meal and wine itself. The food and service was outstanding and Dave made us feel very welcome and quite spoilt. Would love to go back again for sure, a must for a visit to the area for everyone.

First class lunch here last Saturday. Was my wife's birthday and a horrible day outside. We had a table by the fire in an original range. Combined with the low beamed ceilings gave the meal great atmosphere. We had 2 soups, a fish pie and chicken as well as the cheese board all from the lunch TDH. All were excellent. Will be returning soon.

My birthday celebration with my family at Beswicks was excellent. The fine service and kind welcome by the host was most appreciated and every course was so good especially the fillet steak cooked to everybody's. taste. Hope to be back again very soon.

The best pub curry we have ever had. Better than most Indian restaurants too. Not rubbery and swimming in grease with tender marinated chicked, as opposed to those ropey frozen chunks you get in 'real' Indians. We had it takeaway which was very generous in size and the dish came with curried potatoes included. Had a couple of first class pints while I was waiting too!

Beswick's is a lovely traditional French/British restaurant with good attention to detail. a dying breed in today's climate. Very comfortable welcoming atmosphere the owner is an excellent host! Our food was delightful steak cooked to perfection and my starter of Trout was delicious. Beswicks has an excellent wine list and our Burgundy didn't disappoint. A lovely quirky restaurant well worth a visit.

Now in my top 5 favourite pubs! Reasons; 1. Rather than a Menu they have "Beer Blotters". 2. Brew their own awesome real ale. 3. It's quirky and privately owned. 4. Great pies. 5. When the landlady was asked for 2 halves of lager to accompany the 2 real ales, she replied "we dont serve that rubbish in here, we are a real pub". 6. Great views of Black Combe. 7. I can walk there from my new house. That is all.....

As the name suggests this Cafe is in a great spot in Broughton square. Their USP seems to be big hearty portions and friendly service. Nothing hip or artisan here but thats why we like it!

We love the Newfield Inn!! It's a great little pub, good honest food (the lasagna is gorgeous) a really nice atmosphere and a warm cosy fire. If you like walking this is the pub to relax in with a pint afterwards. It's our new regular.

What a find! A real gem of a Cumbrian pub nestled in the fells by the Duddon Valley at Broughton Mills. A tiny pub in size but filled with character and many nooks and crannies. We were sat in the front by the fire. Service was good and pleasantly eccentric. Four cask ales and the Golden Fleece from Dent was a cracker. I had the tomato garlic soup which was fresh and made with full tomatoes. Followed by the fish and chips. My wife had pork and chorizo stew which was gorgeous. All our party enjoyed their sunday lunch in a beautiful part of the Lakes. Look forward to eating outside in the summer.

After a walk and a drive discovering the beauty of the Duddon Valley Near Broughton in Furness, we drove past the Newfield Inn and decided to have lunch there. The Pub is a classic Cumbrian hostelry deep in the countryside and a real fell walker and cyclist haven. We had Cumberland sausage and the lasagne which were both excellent. Was particularly impressed with the lasagne, soft delicate and tasty mincemeat, unlike the usual chunky pub attempts and many italian restaurants to be fair. Would like to try again and have a few beers by the fire!

The wife and I enjoyed a nice night time walk through the village and up the hill to the High Cross. It is in a great location with commanding views over the Duddon Valley and estuary. We were treated to a very warm welcome from the landlady. Had a fine local real ale by the huge roaring fire. Will be back to eat soon.

15 October 2011 found us in Millom celebrating and sharing our enjoyment of Millom poet Norman Nicholson with the NN Society. Serendipity on full beam delivered us to the Square at Broughton for the first time ever. The lights were on at Beswicks - and after a little wait - there was definitely 'someone in' - and a table for us too. We found ourselves, once again, in the same day, celebrating and sharing our new found enjoyment of Beswicks. There is not enough space here to say what a fabulous experience we both enjoyed and shared. Let's just say then that if there were boxes to tick for everything we used and experienced, whether physical, visual, auditory or kinesetic they would all be ticked. Thanks David and your Staff. We appreciated all the things that you have in your immense treasure chest right up to the decor.
