Wain-y-Clare Inn – PontypoolI had Sunday lunch today at the goytre arms with my son and his girlfriend. For many years I have eaten in this lovely pub and totally enjoyed the food. Today was not one of these days. The beef was tough and dry the veg bland and the Yorkshire pudding dry and tasteless. It's been such a long time since I had such a disappointing meal. I had crumble for desert with icecream. The fruit looked as though it came from a tin and the icecream had some awful sweet sauce drizzled over it. My son and girlfriend enjoyed a chocolate dessert but not their main meals. The staff were very warm and welcoming and gave just enough attention without being in your face.
Goytre Arms – PontypoolMy wife and I visited today,so we could enjoy a leisurely lunch together, what a disappointment, we entered the premises at approx12.15pm, there were only 4 people seated for lunch. A waitress said she would be with us in a minute, we stood at the bar, no bar staff. We continued to wait, my wife then went to toilet, on her return I was still waiting. The waitress reappeared, ignored me and went attend the seated guests, how appalling and so embarrassing. What a way to treat customers, no social skills and obviously not a people's person. Such a shame when there are so many people looking for work, who could and would fill the criteria necessary. Rating 0.................
Wain-y-Clare Inn – PontypoolRecently had Sunday lunch at the open Hearth Inn and the food was of a very high standard all vegetables were cooked to perfection and not over cooked the staff were very friendly and welcoming, Will definitely return.
Open Hearth Inn – PontypoolOutstanding food and service at this little gem of a place. Highly recommended.
Butterflies – PontypoolNew people, friendly, helpful and enjoyable to be aroumd 5 stars for good nosh!
Wain-y-Clare Inn – PontypoolBooked a table for 8.30 on a Friday evening, on arrival it was very busy, lots of children running around. The waiter was very attentive. We were shown to our table and ordered our meal. We were spoiled for choice with the menu. The food was well presented, good sized portions and cooked to perfection. On the evening we were there it was very busy, had to clamber through pushchairs prams and lots of young children. Not the quiet, romantic meal for two I was expecting. I would highly recommend the food. Five stars for the chef.
Butterflies – PontypoolWe have visitied Butterflies on a number of occasions over the past few years and the meals have always been excellent. However the last two occasions we have been dissapointed. Whenever we go we always try one of the steaks because they are always really good quality, and nice and tender. My partner had the sirloin on the last occasion which was overcooked and dry. I had the 10oz ribeye, this was wafer thin and stringy, the mushrooms were greasy and the peas were totally overcooked, and my jacket potato was freezing cold. After a disastrous meal we didn't even opt for dessert. In our opinion the quality of food has severly dropped. We wont be visiting again in a hurry.
Butterflies – PontypoolLove this place
Mount Pleasant Inn – PontypoolJust returned home after a wonderful 3 course meal at Butterflies. Absolutely amazing food, couldn't fault any part of any course. Presentation above and beyond expectations and excellent professional service from the staff. Would and will highly recommend to anyone and look forward to our next visit.
Butterflies – PontypoolThe Rising Sun Inn in Abersychan is a lovely cottage style inn. The car park was full so our expectations were high. The sun was shining so we ventured into the bar to get some drinks to take to the garden. The landlady was the first member of staff we saw – she was rude in her manner and would look more professional if she were wearing a uniform. All the other staff was friendly and polite. We were taken to our table in the restaurant area – the first thing I noticed was that the carpet was dirty and obviously hadn’t been cleaned from the night before. There were dried peas and remnants of chips and crumbs. Our starters came I had the butternut squash soup which was really nice. My partner had breaded garlic mushrooms – she said they were really greasy and you could see the oil running out of them as she put her fork in. One of them actually had so much oil in them that they burnt her mouth! Our main meals came; I had the pork and my partner the chicken! These were accompanied by tasteless vegetables, tasteless gravy and the meat was dry and bland. The Yorkshire puddings looked homemade but they were dry and also bland! The dessert was nice... coffee and chocolate cake – obviously not homemade because I’ve seen it in other restaurants. It’s fair to say we won’t be visiting again! Which is a shame because it's a gorgeous pub!
Rising Sun Inn – Pontypoolits the best pub grub i'v have in ages good service, a great beer, and lovely food wot more can i ask for?
The Star Inn – PontypoolHave been to this pub many times with my parents-in-law. Very good food, good service and the staff are all very friendly. Would highly recommend it to anyone. Need to get there on the early side for lunch as the car park is not very big!
Rising Sun Inn – PontypoolMy partner and I have been to this friendly little place three times and ate there twice. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and desserts, very very good. The Whistle Inn was recommended to us by our biker friend - Dai Food:-> need I say more? Lol. We have been warned, however, NOT to order the full grill - Rosies grill I think, as not even the mighty god of food could finish it!!!! But if your hungry, hey - I'd say go for it and fill your boots, but don't have breakfast that day - or the week prior too come to think of it !! Lol. Great place excellent atmosphere!! Brill. Lovely scenery and love the sheep too :-> Will be going back lots. Yum. :->
Whistle Inn, The – PontypoolWe visited the Rifleman's Arms about 2 weeks ago. Lovely building with a nice cozy restaurant, we were given menu's and were totally shocked at the prices! The dishes were unexciting and something you could find at your local Harvester. I wish we had chosen the Harvester because the prices are a fraction of the price for the same quality of food. The waitress was very unattentive and rushed. The choice of desserts were also un-imaginitive - all mostly ice creams! We won't be visiting again because if we wanted this standard of food then Harvester is only 5 minutes away! Shape up guys! & Lower the prices!
Riflemans Arms – PontypoolGreat food, great beer, great value. We were delighted to find Butterflies in Blanaevon via an obscure web reference but also recommended by Oakfield B & B where we were staying. The atmosphere was welcoming and the bar seems to be the best kept secret in the town. The service is fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly recommend a visit.
Butterflies – PontypoolWe have had Sunday lunch there several times and been very satisfied. It's good home cooking and plenty of it in a lovely atmosphere. I always book a couple of days in advance because it is very popular.
