I booked for afternoon Tea for 5 including a child, with a nut allergy. Food: It was a quality reasonable of sandwiches, cakes and scone. I found it filling but the same acnt be said of the men in the group. My daughter has a nut allergy and received fruit kebabs in place of the cake, which worked well. However, I was concerned when our Afternoon Tea arrived because we had carrot cake topped with walnuts. We were able to keep these items away from her but the risk of cross contamination is too great, and I will not be returning to the hotel. Service: Quite poor. The staff are polite but not very attentiive. It was all a bit disjointed. I had to ask at reception where to go for the Afternoon tea and a loveky lady directed us to the Lounge and to inform the bar staff of arrival. We were shown to our table which was two large tables pushed together, which meant we had to raise our voices to be heard because of a large group of loud people. Added to the fact the design, flooring etc., accentuated the sound. We were asked for drinks, which I now realise meant, do you want a drink from the bar, which we did not. I ordered tea without being directed to the menu, which had a range of different teas, but we all got the same 'builder's tea'. Almost immediately our food arrived, again no dialogue explaining what sandwiches, etc., it was put down and the young waiter walked away. No one returned to check if all was okay, and there was no offer of more tea. After 40 minutes a chef arrived with a 'Happy Birthday' treat which apparently should have been brought out with our tea and sandwiches. Again no explanation as to what ingredients were included in the chocolates or the chocolate sauce. Concerning, given a member of the party had a nut allgery, this was remiss. Atmosphere: Disjointed service, tables which looked like they should be used in the conference room, no table linen and a confused table layout in the room, it certainly wasn't special or inviting. The room had a beautiful aspect but it doesn't work. I have had Afternoon tea in few different places and this was the worst. Maybe staff need better training, maybe someone needs to learn how to 'dress' the room to look inviting. I could go on but it was quite disappointing , overall. The larger party did on the other hand get lots of attention, something content creation for the hotel. Either way, not good enough.
