We arrived at 5.we waited 15 mins and then got the attention of a waiter.ordered dinner which was nice.however after plates were taken away, we tried to get someone s attention to get another drink and a desert for 20 mins.inthe end we went to the bar where eventually someone asked if they could help.i replied well as no one came to the table to ask if we wanted anything else so I’m leaving.they gave the bill and I said “ no tip because of bad service.notgoing there again.such bad service

4 of us went for lunch today and the food and service was first class.going back soon. 3 .8.2023.

I have tried fish and chips from everywhere in the local area and these are by far the best value and taste around. Large cod and chips £3.50 and ohhhhh they're good. Can't ask for any more. 5 stars

Best chips around - fab value for money!

Went here last night because I love the food there but Jesus the girl that served me....miserable just doesn't even come close I know people may think it's only a chip shop but at the end of the day I'm a paying customer even just a thankyou when I paid would have been nice I think I'd have getting more common courtesy from a robot! There are plenty of other takeaways in birtley you need to take a look at your staff because that service wasn't even basic it was just diabolical if that was my business and my money she'd be out the door

I have been getting fish and chips from this chippy since it opened what a lovely chippy and staff are friendly and chatty keep up the good work best chippy for miles around.

I would never go back. they do NOT sell cod. The whole shop is a scam. Buy fish and chips for 3.50 get 1 for a £1. the 3.50 wasn't cod it was something else. £1 fish were bits of thin fish like skin battered. i heard a lot of people saying that they are selling pangie which is a cat fish. Don't waste your money there. much better fish and chips next door

This was the biggest disappointment ever!!!!!!!! called in for lunch today and the manager had clearly not considered the fact that it was a May bank holiday as the staff ratio was not enough to deal with the amount of diners , on top of that the food was inedible , clearly the kitchen could not cope either. The pasta dish which I complained about to the very Fractious Manageress was actually more like egg noodles , I was informed it appeared "in her opinion to look ok" and she then informed me it was fresh pasta , clearly then it had been cooked TO DEATH . YUK!!!!!!! My companions meal was meant to be a steak, OMG WHO ARE THEY KIDDING.the first bite said it all, it ended up in a napkin revolting and inedible , like an old shoe To top it all , I asked for the Manageress and I explained the starters were fine as was the wine, but unfortunately the mains were just inedible , this is where you see customer service at its worst, she was actually trying to justify it by looking at the full plates we had left on the table she also mentioned we should have told a waitress ,considering no one came over to the table this would have been an impossibility , I realized she was clearly missing the point, i offered to pay for starters and wine and that was not good enough, still waiting for the apology , i tried to explain that WE the customers could not eat the main courses , Ms Fractious then stormed off, eventually i walked out to be followed by the lynch mob waitresses , SO PROFESIONAL.................i REMINDED THEM OF THE CONVERSATION AT THE BAR AND THAT I WAS NOT PAYING FOR FOOD I COULD NOT EAT,they then accepted payment for the rest and belive me I WILL NEVER GO BACK AND WOULD SAY TO ANYONE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME IN THIS PUB .

really enjoyed your pudding and pie night last month- also pleased to see the new menus have a good choice of food and certainly a fan of your monthly wine offers!!

wonderful new menus! we haven't been for a while and have recently moved back to the area. So pleased to find this place is still serving fantastic food with a friendly, relaxed setting. see you soon and keep it up!!!!

smiths arms i highly recommend this restaurant for its outstanding food and service and also not forgetting the great wine

Had a great meal here, friendly staff, excellent value for money. Sat outside in clean and tidy beer garden. We will return.

Good for food, but too pricey for mere cups of tea and coffee

This place is ace, the food fantastic, the service slick, never felt rushed to leave, and most important all cooked fresh you can truly tell the difference between here and other places nearby. highly recommend
