Castle Chippy – ClitheroeWe travel here from Blackpool, because it is just amazing.we have never been to a nicer, cheaper italian.food is lovely, drinks are a bit more expensive but the cheap food and generous portions make up for that.Love this place and we just keep coming back!
Amico Mio – ClitheroeWent for Sunday Lunch, found the food wonderful and the service excellent. The beer was good as well! Place was in need of a lick of paint, but it is about to undergo a refurb. Highly recommended.
Parkers Arms – ClitheroeWe ate there for the first time yesterday (7th Oct). We had talked about trying it because of its excellent reputation and we were not disappointed. We managed a good value 3-course meal in very good surroundings and close enough to home to encourage a repeat visit. We both enjoyed als which were different to "standard" Italian restaurant fare.
La Locanda Ristorante Italiano – ClitheroeWe tried the October menu a couple of evenings ago - our second visit to La Locanda - and it was excellent, again. My starter was the smoked wild trout with a pumpkin tart - brilliant. The atmosphere is welcoming and not a bit stuffy, the service is exceptional and it also offers really good value. Can't wait to go back.
La Locanda Ristorante Italiano – ClitheroeAfter ringing around a few places late on a Thursday evening for a table for 6, I found the red pump on the Internet and gave them a ring. Although they were also full the manager offered us a table in the bar which we accepted with hesitation. Fortunately there was no reason for my concern! the whole place was warm and welcoming the service was friendly and attentive and the food was outstanding!
The Red Pump Inn – ClitheroeVery poor service let Mitton hall down for me and my wife - the food was ok, although pricey. I complained and the (pompous) owner was very condescending to me, so I certainly won't be returning Must try harder in these hard times.
Mitton Hall – ClitheroeThis place offers a real pleasant change to the bland chain pubcos that dominate this country. In the heart of the ribble valley near clitheroe. It's serves top food from its chef patron and I loved the "middle earth" murals in the toilet. I only had a sandwich for lunch but it hit the spot!
Aspinall Arms – ClitheroeMitton Hall is a terrific venue and the food does live up to the surroundings; yes, it's expensive, but stick with the tapas (take at least four plus a salad or something from the left-hand side of the menu!) and you will come away with change from £40. Would strongly recommend the Chicken Yaki Tori and Ouzi Yaki, but eat quickly; it never seems to stay warm for too long! Also worth trying is the belly pork and salt-and-pepper squid tapas. They will quite happily let you eat from the bar menu in the amazing main room - which holds many happy memories for me from the 'olde Stonehouse' days!
Mitton Hall – ClitheroeRecommended by Mrs R We have eaten here at The Buck Inn a number of times and the food really is excellent! A main course cost anything from around £8.95 to £14, but its very good value for money when you consider the sizes of the portions (be hungry when you arrive!) I can recommend a number of dishes - Pendle Lamb, Homemade Ribble Valley Lamb/Steak Pudding (changes but both are excellent!) and my personal favourite; The Paythorne Whale - the batter is so light and crisp without the grease. Desserts too - Made right on the premises by Charlotte apparently. Children are welcome and oozes that family run pub charm so lacking today in many so called PUBS. This is a real happy place to take your loved ones. Of course there's always a downside to somewhere that serves food as excellent as this ... you can try to book but they are very busy so turning up on spec means a wait if you are lucky but believe me is well worth the wait. If you are there for opening time (6.30pm except mondays) then you should get a table straight away.
The Buck Country Pub – ClitheroeVisiting the Clitheroe area and checking web-sites for restaurant recommendations led us to this site and the Buck Inn. All the comments were positive. The Inn is tucked away but when we got there ( a Monday night ) it was almost full of diners and people waiting to eat so booking is probably necessary. Very often high expectations lead to disappointment but not on this occasion. My starter of black pudding was delicious, not obviously fatty. Mains of steak and dumplings and veg. option of mushroom stroganoff were excellent, beautifully cooked and really tasty. Full marks to the Buck Inn and recommended.
The Buck Country Pub – ClitheroeTried the Three Fishes for the first time yesterday and found it to be a bit of a disappointment. The menu looked okay for starters and for desserts but the main meal section was lacking if you weren't after steak. I plumped in the end for the duck salad and the Lancashire Hotpot ( knowing that Nigel had won awards for one of his hotpots). The salad was okay..nothing special just the usual mix of leaves, meat, blackpudding and egg...not a lot in the way of dressing on it, which made it a tad dry for me. The hot pot was foul. It consisted of meat, potatoe and stringy onions in an overly greasy ladle of dish water. A bit of an insult really considering that not too far down the road at Northcote folk would have been tucking into an award winning version. accompaniment to this meat potatoe and onion was a pickled cabbage which was overly sweet for me. Not a great experience I am afraid.
The Three Fishes – ClitheroeVisited the Red Pump a few weeks ago and the Inn is as good as others are saying. Had an excellent Pigeon Salad starter and Steak main whilst my wife had venison. Flavours were fantastic and the whole experience and ambience was great. Highly Recommended.
The Red Pump Inn – Clitheroehome made pies and flavoured chips are great. dabs and fish bite are amazing. fantastic batter and you must try grannys broth
Castle Chippy – ClitheroeMy wife and I have dined at numerous Italian restaurants. This was the best by far. What made it so special was:- The atmosphere of the venue The professional and accommodating staff And of course the delicious Authentic food. We live in Dubai and was amazed how nice this Restaurant was- a hidden gem.(The prices where very reasonable also)
La Locanda Ristorante Italiano – ClitheroeI agree with an earlier poster that these pubs are coasting on a reputation. However, while you know that what you'll be served is usually of good quality and fresh and we do really appreciate the 'use local producers' principle - the few vegetarian options have, on the whole, been very underwhelming and we've left thinking we haven't had good value for money more than once. What's more, the three 'pubs' (let's face it, they're not really pubs) in the chain that we've been to have a very 'corporate' feel and no charm whatsoever. I think/hope the fashion for these sort of places passes or at least levels off. The gloss has certainly rubbed off for us.
The Three Fishes – ClitheroeMy partner and I - both vegetarian - ate at La Locanda for the first time recently and both agreed that it was perhaps the most stunning meal we'd ever eaten. All three courses were truly food taken to the highest level and, with the attentive service and cosy atmosphere, it was a dining experience that I think will be hard to beat. I sound gushing here...but it really knocked us out. We're happy to recommend this fabulous restaurant.
La Locanda Ristorante Italiano – Clitheroeme and my husband were introduced to the buck inn by a friend years ago. we live over 7 miles away but every time we want a meal out it is always to the buck we go and to make the journey quicker we have even bought a caravan on twyn ghyll which is only 200 yrd's away so we can visit more often .The food is second to none the gammon and eggs is the best i've ever tasted and the staff always make you feel at home. lt's a place you feel at ease to go in on your own. which l have done and they go out of there way to look after you. It has a great character with old fashion values and prices to match
