Calfs Head – ClitheroeWe visited, the well oiled machine that is usually Mitton Hall to find a couple of major parts of the engine missing. The food was as always superb, the service was professional, but lacking the Lord and Lady (one at a wedding, one with her son) seemed to detract from our previous experience's. There wasn't the same calm and cool and sophistication as we now expect from such a venue. Hopefully it was a one off...
Mitton Hall – ClitheroeMy husband and I have been regular diners at the Spread Eagle for over 11 years now and have found nowhere that comes anywhere near it's standard. The food is always first class and the staff are always so pleasant and respectful, which means a lot these days! We really do enjoy coming and recommend The Spread Eagle to all our friends.
Spread Eagle – ClitheroeAs one of a group of seven ladies who had lunch at Mitton Hall on Thursday 26th June i felt I must mention how wonderful the new look is. We were welcomed with freshly prepared Pimms and greeted like old friends. Our waitress Melanie was absolutely fantastic and our blue haired host Andy was wonderful. We had a selection from the different menu's and after lunch our host even provided a guided tour of the facilities. We will be back and bringing our husband's. Many Thanks Lucy
Mitton Hall – ClitheroeArrived at the Waddington Arms a few minutes before they stopped serving lunch but they accepted our order. The food was excellent and good value and the interior is modern and comfortable. They also have accommodation which we wanted to try but were told that they get booked up very quickly (I am not surprised) and didn't have any availability but we will keep trying. I would definitely recommend the Waddington Arms go on try it you wont be disappointed!
Waddington Arms – ClitheroeWe ate here a week ago and although it was very nice it was expensive and the choice was limited. It was ok for a sandwich and a drink and all the food was locally sourced, there wasn't much for children apart from some ice cream which proved very popular.
Bashall Barn – ClitheroeI enjoyed a very nice meal at Maxwells and I must say how devine it was, it is also a very nice place to eat, drink, and socialise in. I would go there again anytime.
Maxwells Cafe Wine Bar – ClitheroeVisited here on recommendation. Quite surprised by the place. Varied menu and reasonably priced. Decent choice for children (our three of 11, 8 and 3 were happy with home made burgers and ribeye steaks!) although definitely not a childrens'-orientated restaurant / pub (not a bad thing). The current wife settled on the venison and I had game pie. Both very good and obviously freshly prepared, followed by home made pannacotta and a blackcurrent sponge with licorice ice cream, both excellent. Second time visit to the Ribble Valley which thinks of itself as a foodie haven but not all its cracked up to be with the two other places we have visited previously (we're used to Angel at Hetton as a local so a place needs to be good to impress!). We'll definitely be back to this place though as there was a distinct lack of "look at me" about the place which seems abundant in Clitheroe and surrounding eateries and it was simply about a decent pub-restaurant with good food.
The Red Pump Inn – ClitheroeI would not recommend the red pump to a malnurished greyhound. the food is overpriced poorly presented overcooked, of little content.
The Red Pump Inn – ClitheroeWhat a disappointment. Having read the reviews and seen the amazing setting we booked a table at Mitton Hall. "Would you like a drink at the bar?" Without waiting for a reply "It is rather full, I will show you to your table" Then it took a full 15 minutes for someone to take a drink order. When it arrived it was spilt all over my wife..evening ruined. However, given that was an accident what followed was not, tables a mere 6 inches apart, no table linen, no place settings, paper napkins and a restaurant that allows a bar menu and a simply uninspiring wine list. The food was nothing special, the fish soup inedible. Such an exotic and idyllic setting should deliver so much more. I would happily pay twice the price for quality food, atmosphere and service. Unfortunately, none of these were my experience.
Mitton Hall – ClitheroeHeld 50th birthday function here this weekend and was very impressed by the level of service and the standard of the food. Everything was cooked to a fantastic standard and was hot. The staff were all very pleasant and many of our guests have said they will return. No hesitation recommending this eatery.
Eaves Hall Country Hotel – ClitheroeI have enjoyed many meals at Calves Head restaurant. I enjoy the food and location so much I have booked my wedding reception. The staff are friendly and always attentive.
Calfs Head – ClitheroeFor lovers of fine wine and food, Mitton Hall is among the best. The whole place exudes a certain quirkiness from the furnishings to the personnel who are kissed hello and goodbye, thanked by the manager (rare!) and all immaculately presented. Forget the formality visit yourself and indulge, wonderful.
Mitton Hall – ClitheroeEccentricity at it's best! Visiting for dinner on Saturday evening we were welcomed by what appeared to be the Lady of the Manor and entertained by what must be the Lord. There is a chic style to the service at Mitton and this is matched by the food and drink. The Lady explained any dish we inquired about and the Lord waxed lyrical about our wine choices. We had a selection of Tapas as starters and robust main courses from the Brasserie menu including melt-in-the-mouth steak and despite a full brasserie and bar we didn't wait for anything including jokes! Mitton hall is something very special be it the decor, the food or the Lady Melanie and her partner Lord Andrew. Try it you will not be disappointed.
Mitton Hall – ClitheroeI'd been meaning to try this place for a while because of it's reputation, but I'm not sure it's completely well founded. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, perhaps a bit pricey on some things for the quality (the £17 steak wasn't the best). The atmosphere is nice although a little touristy, the food all sounded nice but we found it to be overly salty. Also they don't serve drinks to your table so you have to keep traipsing back up to the bar throughout your meal. The ribs with devilled peas are recommended.
The Three Fishes – Clitheroe29th march 2008 visited early evening, when not too busy. good food and great location, but spoilt by over attentive and fussy staff. requested a table for two, was shown a table near the area where food was served from, so asked for one away from this area, was told tables where booked, the place was empty at 6.30!! the food was delicious, but to be asked 6 times by staff if everything was ok, gets a bit irritating, let the food speak for itself.. probably wont return as we felt pressured into rushing the meal, with over zealous hovering staff.
Wellsprings Inn Pendle Hill – ClitheroeLovely place, exceptional atmosphere and lovely food. Worth a visit
Duke of York – ClitheroeAmazing! Mitton hall has been completely transformed into a very special place. We visited on thursday lunchtime and enjoyed the experience so much we returned on Saturday night and again with friends on Sunday lunchtime. On each occasion we were entertained by a double act behind the bar one singing and one who wouldn't have looked out of place in Goodfella's. The food is to die for and the service with a smile will keep us going back for more. Not to mention that we really would like to know from mark and Andy what actually did happen 15 minutes later.. Many Thanks Kay Flac
