I booked a room for the night to meet family and to have a lovely meal, which we was expecting, from pictures and all the good reviews, however this wasn't to be. We were only given the option for the bar menu, all dishes were obviously from frozen and ping and ding. Beef burger was the worse I've ever tasted, probably 10% beef at most, and very rubbery.. very odd texture.

Party of 8 of us for Sunday lunch, the smells coming from the kitchen were amazing and it didn’t disappoint! Great food, very fresh, the young waiting staff were excellent, really attentive. Great value for money. The restaurant was full, so in these hard times it just shows - serve good food, train your staff well and deliver all at a decent price point. We’ll be back!

It was a Tuesday, so not very busy. We had the bar menu, steak pie and chips. All home made, even the chips. They were really good. Pie had lots of meat in. Overall, prices were good and it was very nice. Staff were lovely…. We will be back to try the a la carte menu

The food as always is amazing. Would have loved to have seen both a fish an alternative vegetarian dish on the Sunday Menu 19/2/23.

Booked a table for 8 people for my wifes birthday , greeted with a smile and taken to our table as soon as we arrived, served drinks within 10 minutes of arriving, the menu was simple but good , makes a change from 4 page menus which you normally get and you can't decide what to eat. The food was lovely and very tasty, the staff were very efficient and helpful. The puddings were huge and very nice, the atmosphere was great and we had a lovely evening. Will be back soon.

The Royal George not only has a lovely homely atmosphere but the food is excellent. I had the sea-bass and my husband had the Blade of beef. The menu is really good and I look forward to going back to try the other dishes.

Food was great, so glad we gave it another chance now the ownership was changed. The young waiting staff were great and friendly but drinks service was slightly slower than expected. A lot of rowdy drinkers in the bar watching the rugby and was slightly off putting when they all started singing, also didn't appreciate the barmaid encouraging the drunks to drink shots at the end of the night. We would have stayed for another drink but was too loud for us to have a conversation.

We went for a family Sunday lunch as a party of 10. We were seated immediately and didn’t wait long till drink orders were taken followed by the food order. The food arrived promptly and was all piping hot, it tasted delicious particularly the veg which had some sort of sweet garlicky coating. We all opted for the beef (lamb was off the menu, disappointing) it was cooked to perfection with a slight pinkness but not bloody. 2 of us had starters which was apparently just as enjoyable. For desert we had the chocolate gateaux and sticky toffee pudding (amazing) all in all a fabulous experience and extremely tasty. Well done to the chef and the rest of the staff 10/10 only 4/5 for the price as it was more expensive than we thought it would be not sure we were charged cheaper for the kids meals but didn’t get a receipt so who knows. Oh and more gravy would have been a bonus but just ask and it arrives.

Despite ringing this morning to check they were still doing food and we could have the carvery up to 4 o clock when we turned up at 3 o clock there was no food. We didn't even stay for a drink as we had to get another taxi to another pub where we did get food. Shire horse, can't rate your food because we didn't get any, service is minus 10 because that's our taxi costs.

This is a good old style pub with good beer, good staff, friendly regulars and excellent home cooked food. I am a regular at this pub but always make sure I recommend it to people who want somewhere for some good quality but not too fancy food, especially good for family meals which can be eaten in the upstairs restaurant in an intimate atmosphere or in the social atmosphere of the main pub area.

Visited today 3rd visit. couldn't fault the first two.today the young lady hadn't a clue how to make Capuccino and bit her nails the whole time. When the meal arrived the steak was almost invisible and what there was i could hardly get the knife through it was nearly all grisle and fat.The tomato was burntThe mushroom running in fat.Couldn;t fault the chips and puddingThen to crown it all no loo roll in the toilets. There was a queue waiting to be served an d i had an appointment or i would have spoken to someone on site.Hopefully this was a one off
