Mumbai Grand Within the Grand Hotel – HartlepoolVery good place to go, the locals are dead canny and all the family are welcome.
Gaietys – HartlepoolI visited this pub on the 6th june 2014, I was having a nice quiet soft drink with my friend listening to the karaoke and then my friend was approached by a drunk young woman, shouting and screaming at my friend. This young lady was also with another company of four other women which started shouting, screaming and threatening. They also tryed to start on me but I ignored them, I have never seen or spoke to these women in my life so they were complete strangers, I think they came in to cause trouble and pick fights with people who try to have a nice night out, I went to the bar to tell the bar maids what had just happened and they said and did nothing, members of the public helped more. I will not be returning to Gaietys to have a night out ruined by drunk women who can not control there behaviour in public places, If something like that happened in a nice respectful place, They would of been told to leave, I was advised the place has cctv, Could The owners please look at the cctv footage
Gaietys – HartlepoolWe went to this restaurant today as we were in Hartlepool and had the best fish n chips ever. Staff are so nice and friendly lovely atmosphere very good service. I would recommend this place to anyone good luck Mary Lambert. Keep the fantastic service up!! Your staff are amazing .
Mary Lambert – HartlepoolMy son, daughter and myself were invited to a wedding party at Mary Rowntree's on 20 09 13. My sons first impression was "wow" high praise from him being a lad of few words and even fewer deeds. Having purchased the reasonably priced drinks we found a table and proceeded to mingle in with the other guests and relax in the salubrious and amazingly clean establishment. There was a disco (not my taste in music ) which helped create a bouncy atmosphere for the happy occasion. Speeches were made and cakes were cut and everyone proceeded to have a good time. All went well but then the night burst into action when the staff who were dancing about the place put on their own little cabaret which was a joy to behold. The effort those girls put in was over and above the call of duty. Well done them !!! A buffet was provided ( and i must say everything i had was delicious ) resulting in more stuffed animals than there ever were in Greatham. Unfortunately we had to leave early soon after and so we relunctantly said our goodbyes. My sons parting shot "That was different". What an honour !!! Many thanks to all for a superb evening.

Mary Lambert – HartlepoolWe booked here as we had been before and enjoyed the food but this time it was a disaster. We arrived at our booked time to find there wasn't a table ready and two tables were pushed together to accommodate all 8 of us. There was no table cloths, or cutlery on tables and we should have heeded the fact that there were empty tables uncleared and the bar was stacked with dirty glasses. We were given some tatty menus but waited 20 minutes to have our drinks order taken. Drinks arrived minus any ice and the coke was flat as a pancake. We were given a grubby pickle tray with our poppodums and plates were not cleared once we had finished. We waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for our starters to eventually arrive and by this time had totally had enough of the poor service. No apology or explanation despite other tables who came in after us already having their main courses. Starters were ok but nothing out of the ordinary. Another hour went by and still no sign of our main courses and by this time the restaurant was now empty. I complained to the management received a half hearted apology and a offer of a bottle of wine. It was long after our bed time by the time we had finished and we finally received an apology. I asked for some money to be knocked of the bill and they reluctantly gave us our first round of drinks for free which was poor compensation. Don't go here the food is average and there are plenty of other places in Hartlepool where the service and quality are far superior. To top it all three of the party were ill the next day with stomach cramps!
Golden Gate – HartlepoolWhat a delight to the palate and to the eye. This beautiful old chapel has been restored to glory and it is the first thing that hits when you walk in. My friends and I were greated at the entrance and shown to our table with a smile and welcome. We had a drink while looking through the well designed meue and as the vegetarian I was delighted to see more than one choice! Food ordered we chatted till our starters arrived, followed by main course and deserts. The staff made occasional visits to us to ensure that we had all we required and that we were happy with out meals. I asked for some more vegatables as they were perfectly cooked and delicious. The wine was perfect as well. The price we felt was at the right amount for the meal and service we had received and all in all it was a wonderful evening. My compliments to the chef and it was a joy to find a vegetarian choice that I was excited about. My friends and I have told everone about the resturant and we will be visiting again and often!
Mary Rowntree’s – HartlepoolMy friend told me how good Mary Rowntree's was and we made a visit at the beginning of this week. I was so impressed by the surroundings and the food that I took my husband a few days later. He was very impressed also and we plan to try out the evening menu. Hopefully, this will be as good.
Mary Rowntree’s – HartlepoolI took my parents to Mary Rowtree's for lunch, to celebrate my mother's birthday. We booked table, and saw the notices advising that the food was cooked to order and please be patient. We waited an hour and were going to leave when it arrived, the fish and chips were fine, the beef and mushroom pie was without its puff pastry lid, presumably burnt and removed! The potatoes were dry and the roasted vegetables unappealing, I should have sent it back but my parents by this time were quite distressed. The fourth meal offered was sent back, it was not as ordered, cold and quite frankly a disgrace. We ate and left. The wait staff are excellent and were so embarrassed by the incident, which apparently happened the day before. Whilst we were paying, several table left and others were starting to complain. The owner has spent a lot of money converting the former Church into a cafe. They have good wait staff but a kitchen team who either need to be replaced or retrained. I am writing to the owner to complain and hopefully get some of my money back. We will never return. Please take heed, it is very expensive and you may be disappointed.
Mary Rowntree’s – HartlepoolAn oasis in the desert!! Finally The Headland can boast about a fine dining experience which the area has badly needed.Called in yesterday for lunch and we were greeted with a warm smile by John, the owner. He apologised in advanced for a possible delay as all the food is cooked to order - this was encouraging as it was not going to be a 'boil in the bag' dining experience! We were shown to our table upstairs with a fantastic view over the harbour and across to the Cleveland Hills. Drinks order taken and menus perused. I settled for Liver with mash and seasonal vegetables. My wife had the fresh locally caught cod with proper hand cut chips and peas. Both meals arrived in a reasonable time - so the owners apology wasn't needed. To be honest we were too busy looking at the surroundings and interior to think about the time. Both settled for Vanilla Cheesecake with ice cream for dessert and suitably impressed. Good choice of lager, beer wines etc to suit all palates. Overall we were extremely impressed with the quality of food, service and surroundings and would definitely go back. I particularly enjoyed the courgettes, onions and peppers accompanying my main course. I understand they are soon to opening evenings with a new menu so we will be giving it a try.
Mary Rowntree’s – HartlepoolUnfortunately the seating was uncomfortable and cramped. We ordered food only to find my son was unable to have his main course as the pesto contained nuts, and we couldn't risk it as he is allergic. When trying to find an alternative the only thing available was the fish and chips, and so we were forced to pay nine pounds for it aswell as paying for the pizza because it was 'already cooked', the cheek! (The chips were nice though) We waited a while longer than we should have to be served and were given the wrong food and no spoon for soup! So overall not a good service although the a bonus is the portions were big, if that's a concern. The other food was nothing special however and the calzone was a very strange lump of stodgy dough with tomato sauce round the edges(the only positive was the nice ham), and the other pizza+pasta we ordered were standard. Not too impressive, however it was the happy hour menu/time.
Red Grill Bar – Hartlepoolwell this restaurant is a joke! the way Helen and Lloyd treat there staff is ridiculous! first off they fire the manager for no reason! then they fire me to which carl the head chef decides to start punching me in the back corridor while the owner helen stands back and watches. they opened the restaurant with no idea of how to run a restaurant! i stepped in to run the place after firing the main manager to which i then went on a holiday for a week when it should of been 2 to come back and then be made redundant and have someone take my job which is illegal. so i hope the place dies of death and they flall on there backsides
Red Grill Bar – Hartlepoolwe took our son there for his 16th birthday and were not disappointed, the service was excellent, the food was outstanding. A very pleasant evening had by all especially my son, they made a fuss of him for his birthday which was lovely. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is visiting Hartlepool or even Seaton Carew, so nice to have a lovely restaurant with freshly made food in walking distance from my house. thanks very much
Red Grill Bar – HartlepoolAfter reading the recommendation and a Seatonian we decided to give Red Grill Bar a try last night and I am delighted to say I totally agree with the above recommendation. As we opened the door the atmosphere hit us, busy, vibrant and welcoming. We were shown to our table by a charming waitress and asked if the table was suitable (never had that before)! We had studied the menu in the window the previous day so we had a good idea what we wanted and we weren't disappointed. We didn't have a starter and I had a New Yorker Burger and my wife settled for an extremely large Pizza! The burger came with fresh salad and home made chips to die for! Although we felt quite full we had to have something from the dessert menus, wife had the special of the day - Bailey's Mousse which jokingly said ' no calories' and I had the Creme Brulee we swapped half way though and I must say it was hard to decide which was best. Drinks reasonable and best Latte I have tasted. Overall Red Grill Bar is an oasis in a very desolate desert. Such a welcome change to have freshly prepared food and not the usual 'delivery van, microwave and plate restaurant. Open Kitchen where we could see the staff working to prepare our food. This was our first but not our last visit. Thank you to all for a superb evening.
Red Grill Bar – HartlepoolRed opened its doors in June this year and having now visited the restaurant on numerous occasions I would like to recommend it to the sugarvine readership. Lloyd & Helen (the owners) have spent a small fortune in making the ambiance suitable not only for the full a la carte experience but also perfect for those who want to pop in for a Pasta, Pizza, Burger or just a coffee and a Muffin during the day. They have brough Carl Magill in as Head Chef along with his team and those who know Carl will know, quality and presentation are paramount. We visited Red on Saturday night with 4 friends and were greeted by a smiling member of staff and shown to our table One of our party decided to go for the Special of the Day, Goats Cheese tartlets, presentation was superb as was the taste. the rest of our party chose Pate,Garlic Mushrooms and the Salmon & Prawns for starters. All were delighted with their respective choices. Mains consisted of Chicken Caesar with salad & Home made chips, Lasagne, Chicken a la Creme and Chicken Parmesan. All served piping hot and beautifully presented. Some managed desserts, Creme Brulee to die for plus Apple Pie and Toffee sauce and ice cream (Archers Jersey Ice cream)! Coffee to finish. Presentation, Service and quality of food all of the highest standard and drinks reasonably priced. Happy Hour between 5 & 7 is proving to be extremely popular and I can see this establishment very soon becoming the 'in' place to go.
