Lovely tapas menu, service excellent
Mateo’s – Castle EdenWe had a two course Sunday lunch. The food was delicious and the portion size was good and the price was reasonable. I would definitely recommend and intend to come back. We have had meals during the week at lunchtime which were also very good. The staff and owner were very friendly and made sure we were happy with our food and drinks.

Mumbai Grand Within the Grand Hotel – HartlepoolVery good place to go, the locals are dead canny and all the family are welcome.
Gaietys – HartlepoolI visited this pub on the 6th june 2014, I was having a nice quiet soft drink with my friend listening to the karaoke and then my friend was approached by a drunk young woman, shouting and screaming at my friend. This young lady was also with another company of four other women which started shouting, screaming and threatening. They also tryed to start on me but I ignored them, I have never seen or spoke to these women in my life so they were complete strangers, I think they came in to cause trouble and pick fights with people who try to have a nice night out, I went to the bar to tell the bar maids what had just happened and they said and did nothing, members of the public helped more. I will not be returning to Gaietys to have a night out ruined by drunk women who can not control there behaviour in public places, If something like that happened in a nice respectful place, They would of been told to leave, I was advised the place has cctv, Could The owners please look at the cctv footage
Gaietys – HartlepoolWe went to this restaurant today as we were in Hartlepool and had the best fish n chips ever. Staff are so nice and friendly lovely atmosphere very good service. I would recommend this place to anyone good luck Mary Lambert. Keep the fantastic service up!! Your staff are amazing .
Mary Lambert – HartlepoolMy son, daughter and myself were invited to a wedding party at Mary Rowntree's on 20 09 13. My sons first impression was "wow" high praise from him being a lad of few words and even fewer deeds. Having purchased the reasonably priced drinks we found a table and proceeded to mingle in with the other guests and relax in the salubrious and amazingly clean establishment. There was a disco (not my taste in music ) which helped create a bouncy atmosphere for the happy occasion. Speeches were made and cakes were cut and everyone proceeded to have a good time. All went well but then the night burst into action when the staff who were dancing about the place put on their own little cabaret which was a joy to behold. The effort those girls put in was over and above the call of duty. Well done them !!! A buffet was provided ( and i must say everything i had was delicious ) resulting in more stuffed animals than there ever were in Greatham. Unfortunately we had to leave early soon after and so we relunctantly said our goodbyes. My sons parting shot "That was different". What an honour !!! Many thanks to all for a superb evening.

Mary Lambert – HartlepoolWe booked here as we had been before and enjoyed the food but this time it was a disaster. We arrived at our booked time to find there wasn't a table ready and two tables were pushed together to accommodate all 8 of us. There was no table cloths, or cutlery on tables and we should have heeded the fact that there were empty tables uncleared and the bar was stacked with dirty glasses. We were given some tatty menus but waited 20 minutes to have our drinks order taken. Drinks arrived minus any ice and the coke was flat as a pancake. We were given a grubby pickle tray with our poppodums and plates were not cleared once we had finished. We waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for our starters to eventually arrive and by this time had totally had enough of the poor service. No apology or explanation despite other tables who came in after us already having their main courses. Starters were ok but nothing out of the ordinary. Another hour went by and still no sign of our main courses and by this time the restaurant was now empty. I complained to the management received a half hearted apology and a offer of a bottle of wine. It was long after our bed time by the time we had finished and we finally received an apology. I asked for some money to be knocked of the bill and they reluctantly gave us our first round of drinks for free which was poor compensation. Don't go here the food is average and there are plenty of other places in Hartlepool where the service and quality are far superior. To top it all three of the party were ill the next day with stomach cramps!
Golden Gate – HartlepoolWhat a delight to the palate and to the eye. This beautiful old chapel has been restored to glory and it is the first thing that hits when you walk in. My friends and I were greated at the entrance and shown to our table with a smile and welcome. We had a drink while looking through the well designed meue and as the vegetarian I was delighted to see more than one choice! Food ordered we chatted till our starters arrived, followed by main course and deserts. The staff made occasional visits to us to ensure that we had all we required and that we were happy with out meals. I asked for some more vegatables as they were perfectly cooked and delicious. The wine was perfect as well. The price we felt was at the right amount for the meal and service we had received and all in all it was a wonderful evening. My compliments to the chef and it was a joy to find a vegetarian choice that I was excited about. My friends and I have told everone about the resturant and we will be visiting again and often!
Mary Rowntree’s – HartlepoolMy friend told me how good Mary Rowntree's was and we made a visit at the beginning of this week. I was so impressed by the surroundings and the food that I took my husband a few days later. He was very impressed also and we plan to try out the evening menu. Hopefully, this will be as good.
Mary Rowntree’s – HartlepoolI took my parents to Mary Rowtree's for lunch, to celebrate my mother's birthday. We booked table, and saw the notices advising that the food was cooked to order and please be patient. We waited an hour and were going to leave when it arrived, the fish and chips were fine, the beef and mushroom pie was without its puff pastry lid, presumably burnt and removed! The potatoes were dry and the roasted vegetables unappealing, I should have sent it back but my parents by this time were quite distressed. The fourth meal offered was sent back, it was not as ordered, cold and quite frankly a disgrace. We ate and left. The wait staff are excellent and were so embarrassed by the incident, which apparently happened the day before. Whilst we were paying, several table left and others were starting to complain. The owner has spent a lot of money converting the former Church into a cafe. They have good wait staff but a kitchen team who either need to be replaced or retrained. I am writing to the owner to complain and hopefully get some of my money back. We will never return. Please take heed, it is very expensive and you may be disappointed.
Mary Rowntree’s – HartlepoolAn oasis in the desert!! Finally The Headland can boast about a fine dining experience which the area has badly needed.Called in yesterday for lunch and we were greeted with a warm smile by John, the owner. He apologised in advanced for a possible delay as all the food is cooked to order - this was encouraging as it was not going to be a 'boil in the bag' dining experience! We were shown to our table upstairs with a fantastic view over the harbour and across to the Cleveland Hills. Drinks order taken and menus perused. I settled for Liver with mash and seasonal vegetables. My wife had the fresh locally caught cod with proper hand cut chips and peas. Both meals arrived in a reasonable time - so the owners apology wasn't needed. To be honest we were too busy looking at the surroundings and interior to think about the time. Both settled for Vanilla Cheesecake with ice cream for dessert and suitably impressed. Good choice of lager, beer wines etc to suit all palates. Overall we were extremely impressed with the quality of food, service and surroundings and would definitely go back. I particularly enjoyed the courgettes, onions and peppers accompanying my main course. I understand they are soon to opening evenings with a new menu so we will be giving it a try.
