The Horse and Chains is a great pub and great atmosphere, with excellent service . However, the Sunday Dinner was not as expected for the price. The vegetables were amazing, but the meat was not great quality. I have always had Sunday lunch over over the last 4 years at the pub, and the food quality matched the cost. A minor detail but important to some is there was no English mustard, even though we asked for it and was given American mustard, which is very different. The desert was not home-made as they used to be, which was disappointing. My suggestion to improve the quality of the meat, introduce home made puddings, which will improve the overall quality of the dinner.

Our friends from Devon joined us and were Gobsmacked by the food. We had a fabulous meal. And I’d thoroughly recommend it

Had a fantastic evening to celebrate my 40th.. great food, great drinks and staff. We were a large party of 23 and felt very well looked after.

Had a lovely meal on Saturday evening with the other half and also took my daughter's to Burger night on Tuesday evening. We are lucky to have such a good gastropub so nearby. Staff were lovely, dog was welcomed each time and food was delicious. Big portions - would have liked a dessert but had eaten too much to fit one in!

After a good walk at nearby Attenborough Fields we were greeted with a smile and great food in a cosy atmosphere where we enjoyed a delicious well earned lunch. At the end of the meal and while walking back to the car, our border collie asked if we could come again because he loved his sausages and pig's ears. We definitely will!

February 9th.. We had a party of 14 and it went up to 24, Sue was lovely and obliging, so was Lee when we got to the Venue. DJ Denzal was brilliant, great tunes all night. Bar Staff very attentive with drinks and serving of the food. All in all, a very great night we all thoroughly enjoyed it. (even though the small table near us was extremely loud, even though we were a bigger group) True shame Sue and Lee are looking at ventures new, they will be missed as great hosts.

Lovely food, some bits were quite expensive though. The Service was great. We had a selection of starters and they were all fantastic; Halloumi fries, cheese nachos, prawns and the calamari!! We found it really loud on Fri (9th feb). We've been before when there's been a dj on and it was a great night & plus his selection of music was an aquired taste, shall we say. Big thanks to Mikey and the staff for looking after us

Lovely relaxed atmosphere and good background music. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The menu was really nice , with a good selection of choices. I chose red snapper and it was delicious. Will definitely be returning!

A friend and I came here for Sunday lunch after a long walk with my dog. It had a nice atmosphere, friendly staff and fellow customers and the food was good. It’s just a shame the little touches were missed - like a larger serving of gravy, which came at additional cost.

I love this pub. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. I have issues with gluten but the menu is comprehensive and the staff well informed. Considering it’s off the beaten track I consider it an absolute gem of a find.

Lovely cosy pub, food was generous and tasty and service was outstanding

We had a great Sunday Roast at the King Stag. To celebrate a birthday and we knew the King Stag was an ideal place to take our guests who had never been before. The food and service are always top notch and this time was no different. There were four of us and 2 dogs and we were all well looked after by the front of house team. The food was great and there was lots of it - including biscuits for the dogs! The atmosphere was buzzing as usual and everyone is really friendly - including all the dogs having to check each other out. High recommended.
