The Portrait House – Hoylakei went for a meal at the new 'portrait house' on wednesday evening with my partner. I've never written a review about a restaurant before because none have ever been quite that good. How ever my partner and i enjoyed our evening so much that i felt this was now necessary. The restaurant itself is fantastic, we were greeted instantly at the impressive front entrance and shown into the bar area where we were attentively asked for drinks by the friendly bar man. After our order was taken we were then shown into the restaurant itself... its so nice to see a set up like this where the restaurant and bar area are completely separate, fantastic!! We were given complimentary bread and flavoured butters, we felt special until we turned around and saw that every other table had this too! Our starters and main courses were piping hot and cooked to perfection, drinks were brought over to our table promptly and all in all i couldn't fault anything... except that the waitresses probably smile a bit too much!! We retired to the bar area where we enjoyed a couple of cocktails (try the daiquiri - amazing)and finished off our night. The bar man called a taxi for us and we were informed when it arrived. My partner and i both agreed that we had such a fantastic night and will be singing your praises till we return.... which wont be long. Thanks once again
The Portrait House – HoylakeWe thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the service was good and the atmosphere was warm and friendly
Sevens Restaurant – HoylakeQuite simply the best meal we have ever eaten! The service was perfect - friendly and welcoming. The wine was superb and the food was amazing. We will definitely be back!
Linos Restaurant – HoylakeThe food was divine, at a reasonable cost. Will definitely be going back. Service was impeccable spiky haired lad was great help and a laugh! Definitely recommended.
Jade Garden – HoylakeWe had dinner here on Saturday night for the first time. We were greeted at the reception and shown through to the trendy grey and red bar area where we could enjoy drinks and peruse the menu on comfy chairs or leather bar stools. Sadly the draught Pelegrino (an impressive novelty) was not available at the time but was soon restored to service. We placed our order from a sensible sized and varied menu and were shortly shown through to the restaurant area which was similarly decorated as the bar area. Comfortable leather seats, mood lighting and slightly undersized tables for all the glassware and original slate bread/butter slabs provided but very pleasant all the same. All this complemented by a wide array of (appropriate to its name) portraits and other photography and artwork. All our menu choices were superbly cooked and served by friendly and sufficiently attentive waitresses. If we had any criticisms it would be to lay off the balsamic reduction piping which came zig-zagged over each plate - (Very passe!) and teach the staff to serve and offer tasting of wine properly. It's not difficult and would improve their service levels to "excellent" if adopted. All in all a very friendly, pleasant restaurant offering good service, wine and food at sensible prices. Suffice to say we shall be back.
The Portrait House – HoylakeOur second time at The Portrait House and yet another success. This place seems to have got it right from the word go! Also evidenced by the number of repeat local customers they seem to have attracted. They offer a varied and eclectic menu which is supported by an excellent wine list and exceptionally good value house wine at £10 per bottle. Just what Hoylake was looking for. Keep up the good work.
The Portrait House – HoylakeWent for a meal with 8 girlfriends for a birthday celebration and had a great evening. I ordered the mushroom ciabatta for starters and sea bass with boiled potatoes and vegetables for mains, washed down with a very good priced pinot grigio! Had an ace night, the staff were lovely and the food and wine were gorgeous.
The Portrait House – HoylakeI had one of the best Indians meals here and now regularly go back for more. Service was very good as we were regularly looked after and given a drink on the house by the owner Bari. Highly recommended for the quality of the food all made with fresh ingredients. Will defo go back again soon.
Indira Tandoori Restaurant – HoylakeFantastic! A quick meal before a night out with the lads The staff managed to cope with such a big party with excellent service, The crispy chilli beef is to die for have a wide range of drinks and a sexy waitress too! what more could you ask for on a night out?
Jade Garden – HoylakeI'm always afraid that when we go to Lino's - and we've been going there since they opened - that we'd one day be disappointed. Well, it hasn't happened - in fact I'd have to say that we have had superb service and food EVERY time! How they do it is beyond me. The best service in Merseyside, beyond doubt.
Linos Restaurant – HoylakeOur favourite restaurant since we used to live just around the corner, sadly we have now moved to London and will only be able to return occasionally, but we will return on visits home as the food is always exceptional. The food here is better than at Tony's (if anyone remembers that great place, now sadly closed down). Mostly older people in Julian's, but we are only in our 20's and we love it.
Julian’s Restaurant – HoylakeGreat food, rather over-attentive service (waiters hovering constantly ready to whip your plate away!) but one of our favourite Indians. Food is always lovely. A bit pricier than some, but reflected in the food quality. You can take your own drinks too, which keeps the cost low.
Indira Tandoori Restaurant – HoylakeJulian's Restaurant is one of the best places i have been to eat. The food and service is outstanding. you are warmly greeted on your arrival and look after with the highest of quality throughout your meal. I feel the price of the meal is very reasonable for what you get. I have paid a lot more in other restaurants and been very disappointed. I would recommend Julian's to anyone who wants good quality food & service for the right price.
Julian’s Restaurant – HoylakeBest Chinese food I've had on Merseyside, and that's saying something. The crispy chilli beef is outstanding, the chicken and cashewnuts is - ooh, I'm drooling just thinking about it. They could do with turning the heating up a notch - it's always a bit chilly - but that aside, a smashing place.
Jade Garden – HoylakeMy guests and I were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. All three courses of our meal were beautifully presented and were served by cheerful courteous staff. The delicious meal, excellent wine and lovely ambience ensured that a very enjoyable evening was had by all. See you again soon....
Julian’s Restaurant – HoylakeGuaranteed excellent food and superb service - i have never been disappointed, or even less than very happy with a meal at Linos. The guys know how to run a restaurant, and they run it so so well. If you get a change their lunchtime menus are really well priced, and considering the quality, criminal to miss out on. Evening menu is compelling and the range of desserts and specials offered (from memory by Nigel and Ian) is disarming. As other reviews have said, it's rather easy to eat more than you should. Wine selection is excellent, with even the odd non-Italian wine sneaking in for an appearance. Can't recommend enough - but please don't book when i want to go! It's not huge... it is special. Dress up!
Linos Restaurant – HoylakeGreat food, great menu and always changing! He uses local produce too. We'll be back.....
