i had a finger nail in my take away
East Ocean Chinese Takeaway – KirkhamWe have been visiting the Lancashire Canal with some friends and have stopped at most of the Pub/Restaurants during our two week trip. The one that stood out to all of us was the Hand and Dagger for service and good English food, all the staff we encountered on both visits were very helpful and this is not the case in many pubs now a days. We found the little pub quaint and the surrounding area was beautiful as the leaves were changing colour and looked wonderful. We had some nice beers and one or two wine more than we should have but we were swept away by the warm and friendly atmosphere. Would recommend this place to anyone.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamSome friends and I visited the Hand and Dagger on Friday evening and found to our surprise that the place had lots of soldiers in the pub and jeeps and tents in the field. the first thing that we noticed was the pub was busy and everyone was having a great time. We had some drinks and sat down to look at the menu. Straks, mixed grills, 10oz gammons we did not know what to choose. We ordered and very soon we all had some of the finest looking food we have seen, and they where every bit as good as they looked. Soon a Karaoke man arrived and now full of fine food and one or two pints later we settled in for what was a brilliant evening. We had a ball and will be back soon for more of this excellent food and drink.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamMy friends and i were here last weekend for the second time this year. Again the food, drink and atmosphere was fantastic. We all had the steak on the saturday night and a huge breakfast the next morning, which i have to say was second to none and cooked fresh (None of your laying under the hot plate for 3 hrs rubbish) lol. Alan and Lucy as per the last time we stayed the weekend for an event, where the perfect hosts and ever attentive to the needs of everyone in attendance. How they both manage to be so up and positive all the time is beyond me lol. A lovely couple, good ales, and continued good food. What else could you ask for, Kenny Morland
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamThis was our first visit and found it excellent value for money having the £9.50 buffet. The welcome and service we received very good and genuine. The only point I would raise is that perhaps on arrival when seated in the waiting area and informing the host of the intent to have the buffet, is the host should ask if this was our first time and present us with the buffet menu (which we only saw on departure). Now we know the 'score' we will be back!
Buraq – KirkhamHave never made it to Buraq before - partly because it’s Kirkham-way and requires a drive to get there and partly because from the outside it doesn’t look up to much (the Little Chef school of architecture). But they say never judge a book by the cover and having eaten at Buraq for the first time this week I have to say I was really blown away by the experience. There’s a stylish bar area with funky lighting, wooden floors, comfy leather sofas and chunky wooden tables and a dining room that is really more like a fine dining restaurant. We got a booth as it was fairly quiet on a Wednesday evening, and literally spent five minutes complimenting the décor and ambience. Quite simply, you will not find a more luxurious Indian restaurant in the Fylde. And as for the “mints” at the end you will have to go there and find out for yourselves. . .
Buraq – Kirkhamgood food shame about the service! visited here for a meal on a weekday about 5.30 for the 3 course earl bird. Nice enough food but took AGES to come. Think 2and a half hours is a long time in which to have a meal (especially with a young child). Mentioned this as we paid - they said they were short staffed. We have eaten there a few times in the past and its always been the same. Sadly now won't be going back. Buck up your service the Grapes!!!
Grapes – KirkhamThis was our first visit to the Eagle and Child... and wow! The food was absolutely beautiful and there was plenty of it!! I even asked for a 'doggy bag'! The staff were excellent - polite and incredibly helpful. The price was excellent in relation to the quality of food. I can't rate this pub, proprietor and staff highly enough - we will definitely be going back soon.
The Eagle at Weeton – KirkhamHad a meal here last weekend whilst camping nearby, and the curry was excellent - thoroughly recommended. The only downside, as mentioned by other posters on here, was that our request for a jug of tap water resulted in an expensive bottle instead, without any prior warning, and the 'we don't serve tap water' policy was only explained when I queried why they had provided me with a bottle. C'mon people, get a grip - this is not acceptable now, and the £6.10 charge for a glass of diet coke and some water meant that we didn't leave a tip, not to mention this poor review. When are places like this going to realise that policies like this result in bad publicity, and cost them money? Just to re-iterate though - the food was excellent!
Ashiana Tandoori Restaurant – KirkhamMy dad stays locally in Kirkham and had went to this pub last year for a meal but decided against it (choice of food and service looked poor), however when he took me there last night he new as soon as we entered it must be under new management as the atmosphere was so welcoming and the menu had excellent choice. We enjoyed our meal so much so that we went back today for a rather greedy large lunch! Will definitely return there again & again.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamWe left very disappointed, the food is very pricey especially the kids meals. I ordered a lemonade and lime which I asked to get changed twice as it was flat. Toilets are dirty, table wasn't clean and the staff were not that over friendly. The best thing I can say is its a nice little pub for a cosy drink but would never eat there ever again.
The Eagle at Weeton – Kirkhamwent to the hand and dagger today to treat the wife for her birthday had an excellent meal good value for money wife had baguette,s i had the mixed grill i have eaten in local inns in the area and this is about the best mixed grill going will i eat there again defo and not going to wait for a birthday to go again
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamA friendly pub with accommodating hosts serving good food for the hungry man after a trip down the canal
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamGood food and the right price - quick service with a smile - lots of space and range of beer - plus you can have a nice walk along the canal. Worth a visit. Andy B
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamMy latest visit to the Buraq last Saturday confirmed, if any confirmation was needed, that in my opinion this is the best Indian restaurant in the Fylde by a country mile. Each visit has been as good if not better than the last in terms of service, food quality, surroundings etc.
Buraq – KirkhamVisited 22nd May with my family. Excellent service, stylish and comfortable surroundings. Found the food to be about average Indian fayre to be honest but the excellent service compensated for this. Good vibrant atmosphere, might just have been unlucky in menu choice on this occasion. Would certainly try it again and could recommend it for the ambience and service. Nice touch providing jug of chilled water on the table.
Buraq – KirkhamMy friend and I went to the Buraq recently and we can honestly say it was the worst curry either of us had ever tasted. We sent the first curry back but the replacement was just as bad. The lamb dansak had all of 3 pieces of meat in it but it was the sickly smell that really put us off. Thank God for the Vimto lolly on the way out... We will NOT be returning..
Buraq – KirkhamMy wife and I and 2 friends recently ate at the Hand and Dagger near Salwick. Last time we'd been in - several years ago - it was garishly lit, drowned in loud rock music and almost empty. Last night it was pretty good. It was reasonably full (perhaps because it was Quiz night) but we had no trouble finding a table or being served. The menu looked decent and had some interesting variations on classic pub grub. The specials board had plenty of choice on it and some tempting dishes. I had my "benchmark" dish of steak and ale pie (their variation was to add some mushrooms), which was a slice of a deep plate pie rather than an individual pie or a pot with a fluffy puffy top. Nice chips and reasonable veg with a delicious gravy. My wife has salmon in hollandaise sauce, nicely cooked, with veg and freshly cooked new potatoes (not dry and brown like you sometimes get). Our friends had fish and chips (reasonable batter, nice fish) and scampi and chips (decent number of scampi pieces). The chips were nice and crispy with light insides, the vegetables were nicely cooked, perhaps just a little too soft for me but I do prefer my veg very al dente. The beer was well kept and there was a decent range of real ales. The standard red wine was decent quality, and the glasses were 175ml, a reasonable size to have 2 of and still be able to walk out (for the non-drivers). All in all, a pretty good pub meal. Reasonable value food at around £8 each on average. We'll go again.
