AVOID IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY, INTOLERANCE OR DIETARY REQUIREMENTS. Dietary requirements not met for afternoon despite writing them on the booking form AND informing the waitress on arrival. The waitress continued to bring the allergen out which I informed them I couldn't have twice. I was told to just "swap" the sandwich I couldn't have with someone else. No offer to substitute this with something else. This is honestly disgraceful in this day and age. We were the only table in the restaurant, I can understand why now. Food was very average for an afternoon tea, nothing special. Specialty coffee was an additional £5 something. There was a wedding on when we arrived so no where to park, people were dumping their car anywhere blocking others in. The wedding was obviously prioritised which is expected, but it affected the service we were definitely an after thought. If you don't have the staff then don't offer afternoon tea at the same time it's not rocket science. Dead flies in the window sills and there was a sticky substance and crumbs from the breakfast on the table on arrival. My sister had to ask them to wipe it as we sat down... despite being the only table there and the table being set up for afternoon tea. Average priced afternoon tea for average food. The staff were friendly but the lack of customer service doesn't make up for it.

I booked an afternoon tea for myself and my friend for her 50th birthday as a gift. The service was good and the member of staff was polite. The afternoon tea was lovely and I requested for a birthday message for my friend. The request was actioned and made my friends day special.

Evening meal was absolutely lovely, I had the Sunday roast and gf had sea bass with a couple of starters. Breakfast was spot on especially the sausages. All staff were friendly

Food was nice except egg sandwiches which were pale and tasteless. We were sat next to the breakfast table which hadn't been cleaned from serving breakfast. Dirty serving dishes still on the table which were sat on a very stained white table cloth. You would expect all breakfast items to be cleaned and cleared away before serving afternoon tea! The young waiter was very obliging and doing his best but we had to request the prosecco we had ordered

Had 2 evening meals there with my wife while staying at the hotel. We found the food in the restaurant to be excellent, particularly for a hotel. Staff were friendly and efficient. Lovely comfortable room. Very enjoyable experience.

First time visit and we'll be coming back. We booked an afternoon tea for 2 and were thoroughly impressed with the staff, the layout and the whole atmosphere. Harriet on reception greeted us with a smile and pointed us to the restaurant where we were met by Kian, who was lovely and could not do enough for us. The afternoon tea was delicious and just what we needed. After we requested to see some of the rooms, as we wanted to come back, Harriet took us on a tour of the hotel and rooms. We have decided to book and bring friends.

Came with friends for the afternoon tea. Food was lovely and fresh, service efficient and friendly. The hotel and grounds are beautiful! Highly recommended!

Nice afternoon tea and good selection of sandwiches and cakes. Atmosphere a little lacking and service could have been a little more attentive - for example we had to ask for our Prosecco and a top up of our tea! The place could also do with a clean (whoever cleans the mirrors and glass tables needs to be sacked)

This was the second visit to the hotel for afternoon tea. I telephone on the morning of our visit to make sure that the disabled ramp would be in place as our first visit the ramp was not available and we had to eat in the bar area. When we arrived the ramp was not in place and we had to wait till they found it. The restaurant staff when we eventually got seated were totally disorganised serving people not in order.

We really enjoyed our afternoon tea, yesterday. It was very nice food, served very well in a comfortable environment. We have been before and it was just as good. We will inform our friends and family. We will be back.

Lovely afternoon tea. Fresh, tasty sandwiches and helpful, friendly staff. A special addition was the ‘Happy Birthday’ chocolate and fruit plate provided for my 92 year old father. The only reason for the atmosphere mark down is I would have expected white linen table cloths, rather than bare tables. Other than that a lovely afternoon. Thank you.

really disappointed with the afternoon tea, the coffee on offer was only out of a cafetiere , everywhere else I have had afternoon tea we have always been offered at the very least a cappuccino or latte . what made it even worse was the coffee provided was cold so we wondered weather this was left over from breakfast , the sandwiches tasted stale like they were made the day before and the cakes were obviously bought in and not made at the hotel. The staff were friendly which was the only plus but overall a very disappointing visit and would not go again or recommend after tea at mere court .

We had a very nice afternoon tea for a 70th birthday. They made a special celebration plate for the birthday guest. The service was excellent. The food was good. The room was delightful , over looking a water feature.

The food at both dinner and breakfast was absolutely beautiful and of a really high standard. Will definitely be returning.

We visited with friends, I booked the lunch having been at Mere Court for our son’s wedding several years ago and also for afternoon teas more recently. We were allocated a table in the lounge section of the bar as the restaurant was full - a wedding I presumed. We were given menus and ordered our meals a few minutes later. The wait for our meals to arrive was unacceptable- ‘5 minutes’ we were told, in fact it was more like fifteen. The Sunday roasts were unspectacularly average but my main course was decidedly poor. I requested Cheese and Onion pie. Never in my 70+ years have I been served combination of bland cheese and, what I presumed was, mashed potato , with a few lukewarm chips and shredded onions. I suggest the chef has a discussion with Northerners who understand what constitutes’Cheese and Onion pie.

Lovely location, attentive and friendly staff. Delicious afternoon tea, with tasty traditional sandwiches, warm fresh scones and a lovely selection of tasty cakes. 2 huge teapots and offers of refills. We got a deal via a voucher but even the full price is great value for money. I would definitely recommend and will be booking in again soon!

Had a lovely afternoon tea celebrating a 90th birthday. Lovely little extra for the birthday girl with A Happy Birthday with some fruit and macrons. And gluten free for me. Well done all round

We had a lovely meal but we didn’t appreciate being charged £3.95 for a tiny jug of gravy.
