We visit Ripon often and always stop by at the Bruce Arms in the market place in Masham. Initially we went to that pub as it is dog friendly and the plus factor is the great food. We were there for my daughters 17 birthday last week. The girls always get their "designer" burgers which are huge and me and dad had a great succulent beef dish. The dog benefits with the left overs we save him for later !! The staff are chatty and welcoming. A rustic warm pub with home fires and plenty of beer garden space. Plus the walk by the river is great nearby. The river is a bit like the canadian rockies so a great day out. See you soon Bruce. !!

One of Yorkshires best French restaurants has now re-located to Ripon from Leeds. Beautiful looking restaurant right by the Cathedral. It's immaculate and the food perfect. Service to match from the owner Guy. A must if in this part of the world.

Been a "regular" since Lockwoods opened. Never a bad experience/meal and besides the "ordinary" menu (which is anything but!) the Tapas Nights and now Sunday Brunch are not to be missed. Matthew (and staff) keep up the good work.

We found Lockwoods by chance on a visit to Ripon two years ago, but only for tea and cakes. We thought it worth remembering and how right we were. The food combines style with substance - classy fish & chips, for example- and the service is attentive, friendly but discrete. Highly recommended!

I visit Lockwoods regularly - truly the best restaurant in town - and I have tried them all including the two new ones! My favourite summer meal recently has to be the garden pea risotto with feta. A really scrumptious summer meal. Also loving the fact that they now buy their vegetables from across the road at a heritage garden! Couldn't get fresher!!!

We had previously visited this pub using our Hi Life card and not been given the warmest of welcomes - although the food itself had been good. However this time ( Sun 24th July'11) what a difference ! I don't know if there's new management in place but we had the warmest of welcome, a full description of what we could use the hi Life card for, including the Lobster Menue deal that was a summer special. The food was absolutely devine....lots of imagination, flavour and using the finest of locally sourced ingredients. It was pretty quite when we arrived but we felt that was because of the time (6.30pm) and that it was a beautiful summer's evening and the smell of BBQ permeated the area. We had a wonderful time and will certainly be going back again very soon - this time with our friends.

The Jewel in Crown!! Having met a friend on the worst day of the week so far weather wise and having been rather disappointed in Ripon itself....We were lucky to lunch at Lockwoods.... What can I say....? great food / good service/ and wonderful atmosphere meant we came away from Ripon thinking of it more kindly than when we arrived!! Would recommend to anyone wanting somewhere different with imaginative menus.

Excellent food served by welcoming proprietors Brian & Sue. Situated in an ideal location for travel to and visiting the Yorkshire Dales, South Lodge has modern decor and a warm and friendly atmosphere. Ample car Parking.

The Stavelely Arms catered our daughter's wedding reception and I can't speak too highly of them. They put on a fabulous event and everything was perfect - the food, the service and overall care and attention taken by Sharon and Andy and their staff. Thank you to them for making this such a perfect day.

We called in to lockwoods whilst our car was being serviced. We were sat close to the front door because the place was quite full but found this area very cold, so we moved when a table became available to nearer the back, which was very noisy front the staff banging about with the coffee machine, we both found the lunch menu limited and both ordered handmade beef burgers and chips, the dish had too many flavours in it and felt very greasy and wet. however we did manage to eat it all! i would recommend but choose you dish carefully.

Well, the food here is amazing! And the new owners are just so friendly. If you like Thai food and are on your way to Ripon, COME HERE!!! Some of the best i've had!

I would just like to say Sue and Goling are the most wonderfully kind and lovely people. I frequent the restaurant and the food is fantastic, reasonably priced and always so fresh and tasty It is a pleasure to give them a little of my time as they so deserve this recognition of their hard work. I regularly get take aways and also go on a lunchtime when Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays the charge is a small amount of £6.00 . Starter Main Course, desert and coffee Fabulous

we had a really nice stay in this inn. Its really close to lightwater valley. and the breakfast was superb! definitely recommend to anyone who likes traditional inns.

Hoorah! The famous Bruce Arms at West Tanfield has reopened with Chef/ Partner, Hugh Caruthers at the helm. We ate there on the first Saturday last weekend and enjoyed a super meal of would you believe it - Boiled Beef and Carrots? How very retro? How very good! The Brisket was cooked to perfection and was a real winter warmer. The Orange Panacotta was to die for, not at all gelatinous as so many are. The flavour of the orange and the texture of the panacotta was superb. Its obviously very early days here but the future looks very bright indeed for Hugh and his team. Hugh is a superb chef and trained originally at the Michelin Starred Yorke Arms. We have followed his progress since and love his food, I hope you will too.

Been a regular customer for the past 3 yrs, great food, great service, reasonable prices - highly recommend it.

The George at Wath has been bought from Enterprise Inns and will re-open as a Free House in September 2009 after a complete refurbishment.
