The Art of Tea – Didsbury

I love this place. The food, drink and atmosphere are brilliant. Our recent visit was marred however by one of the other customers who came in with 3 dogs. In such a small place it would be difficult, if not impossible, to accommodate 3 dogs at one table without them impacting surrounding tables. I am not anti-dog but I do not want my experience affected by being sniffed at by strange dogs. Art of Tea - I don't want you to become not dog-friendly but you need to consider your policy with regard to multiple dogs.

The Art of Tea is a cosy and homely restaurant/cafe. The service and staff were excellent and the food was lovely. I can’t wait to come again!

Visited the Art of Tea for lunch with my friend. She enjoyed her vegan mushrooms on toast and complimented the coffee. I would recommend the Art of Tea house blend tea and really enjoyed nachos with refried beans and avocado, generous amounts of melted cheese. Staff are really friendly but not intrusive, the atmosphere is very relaxing. Love the blend of cafe and book shop.

Whenever I am in our Manchester office, the Art of Tea is one of the restaurant/cafes on my list for an evening meal on the way home. The menu is small but the food is lovely and I always get a friendly welcome. It reminds me of the old cafes I used to frequent years ago, small, cosy and interesting. The owner's choice of background music is always worth listening to and the bookshop at the back is an absolute goldmine, full of old books to get lost in. I could comfortably spend a few hours in here, first for the cafe and then for the bookshop. If I were to ask for one change, I would love the choice of music to be displayed on some sort of "Now Playing" stand so I didn't have to ask.

We have been coming for 20years and the food is consistently excellent; fresh and well presented. The service is always friendly and relaxed with a cosy atmosphere making it perfect at any time of day or evening - our favourite spot in Didsbury still!

Lovely venue with bookshop to get lost in at the back. Friendly efficient service. Have given a high review as my breakfast combination was delicious but they really need to have gluten free bread on the menu. Have good quality bread in the freezer and a toaster solely for gluten free use; explain all this when orders taken. As a coeliac this would work for me - might not for other coeliacs as I appreciate the kitchen is really small and there is the risk of cross contamination.

I've started coming here regularly now when I work in our Manchester office. The food and atmosphere are perfect and the combination of a cafe and bookstore is brilliant. They even held the last maple flapjack for me and wrapped it to take away so I could catch my train on time - above and beyond.

The Art of Tea is a treat. In a world full of chains and glitzy decor, there is something very comforting about sitting in an old chair, with friends drinking great value wine and eating lovely food. The service is warm, the old bookshop at the back reminds you to visit and the atmosphere is delightful.

Took my partner for afternoon tea recently. Had a pot of earl grey and traditional breakfast tea which was lovely and scones with cream and jam. Loved the ambiance of the place and our daughter enjoyed reading the Mr Men books in the library whilst sat in a chair with a number of Rupert bear teddy’s. Great place and will definitely go again. The gent serving was also a thoroughly nice chap. Thanks

I liked the atmosphere inside, rather low lit, and eclectic, with a hotch potch of random art works scattered about. The duplex table layout leads to a well stocked bookstore. At the end of the bookstore is a windowless, over lit extention to the cafe, which I assume people are happy to sit in when the main cafe is busy. The eggs benedict I had was good, perfectly cooked eggs, capers good. Bacon could have been less carbonated, but ok. The tea however wasnt served in a standard teapot, but in a glass jar type thing, so it went cold too quickly. The quality or portion size of tea leaves wasnt adequate, given the name of the establishment. Never really fully 'brewed' as a cuppa, despite swirling, steeping etc. All this was tolerable, pleasant even,...overall. But what marred the whole experience was the unstinting hostility of our waitress/ server. My guest commented a few times as to whether we had annoyed her inadvertently, or if we had transgressed in some unknown way the ettiquette of this place. We tried a few times to smile, and 'gee' her up by being over nice, so as to get things back on track - maintain that unwritten social contract in polite English life, but it simply wasnt happening. In the end I asked for bill, tapped machine silently, didnt look at her, walked off with no interaction and thought " thank goodness for that, never again". I wouldnt rush to return, the Tea wasnt out of this world ( it should be the best) and I dont like being made to feel im some kind of a**#@le when I'm not. Not sure if I tipped, as I needed to get out pronto. Hopefully I didnt. The gentleman working there seemed pleasant enough however, but unfortunately he didnt serve us.
