The Wheatsheaf is a great pub for its old style atmosphere and very decent food. We had the game pie and the cheese and onion pie. Both home made and both excellent. Not so sure about the rest of the plate. Would much have preferred red cabbage to mushy peas (?!) with the game pie. And salad with the cheese and onion pie was also an odd one. Lastly as another reviewer has mentioned the menu choice is quite restricted which limits our enthusiasm for more frequent visits.

We had Sunday Lunch at The Wheatsheaf and it was excellent. We both had the roast beef and it was served with a delicious selection of vegetables, both roast and mashed potatoes and of course Yorkshire pudding. Gravy was plentiful, as it should be. We shared starter of Morecambe Bay brown shrimps which were served in butter. Perfect. To round off the meal we had an indulgent Creme Brulee. Would highly recommend. Staff were very friendly.

Love the pies at the Wheatsheaf, had a Game one and it was lovely. The chips are almost like a crossover with Roasties and that can only be a good thing. Staff are welcoming and friendly and it is a lovely old place. Lovely pint of well kept Cask pale ale made for a perfect lunch.

We were booked at 2pm and served at 3.10pm after a mixup in the kitchen.

The staff are always really friendly and efficient. The food is ok but once you’ve been a few times as we have, the lack of variety in the menu makes choices quite limited. I had booked a few weeks in advance as we were going to the local theatre and was very disappointed to be given a table which basically looked as though it was in the broom cupboard! We are locals and we try to use our local pubs and amenities but felt we had been overlooked in this instance. We had the shrimp which we felt was a bit expensive for what it was. The fish and chips were decent but due to the size of the chips some were still very hard and undercooked. Delicious well priced dessert Affogato. It’s always a nice experience as the pub has a great atmosphere but I felt a bit disappointed by the table we were given and some of the food which was also not up to scratch.

Very good food and service, I could only justify a 4 for service because one of our meals had not been prepared. That said, the staff were very apologetic and got the meal prepared and out as quickly as they could and the food was worth waiting for. I had salad but pinched a few chips, wow the best chips I have tasted in a long time.

Always visit this lovely place when we visit the area. Food and service are fabulous, super dog friendly, and a lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Our second visit and just as brilliant as we remembered. Great choice of classic food with amazing steak and stout pie made in house. We love the atmosphere that only an old English inn provides, from the warming log fire to the chunky old tables and chairs. It’s very comforting and welcoming and a great place to come for some delicious food. Can’t wait to visit again.

On arrival advised that they were running slightly behind time but would be as quick as possible. It was only a short wait of less than 10 mins when food arrived it was presented nicely, plenty of it and staff were attentive without being in your face. The costs were appropriate to the meal. Will thoroughly recommend it to others

A fabulous Sunday lunch. Shame that by 2.30pm a few dishes were already sold out but our next choices were still great. So nice to be able to take the dog with us. Would highly recommend.

Dropped in for light lunch and really enjoyed the experience. Staff welcoming friendly and helpful. Great choice of food which was excellent. Lovely historical village we had views towards the church. Will definitely call in again as roast dinners looked fab. Highly recommend this place a little gem.

We went on a Friday lunchtime. The tables were full but it was not crowded. The pub was warm and welcoming. We have a large puppy, a German Shepherd. She was made very welcome and we didn't feel that she was in the way. We had an excellent lunch, two of us had Cullen Skink, which could possibly have had a little more of the smoked haddock in it to give a stronger flavour, but was very enjoyable. My husband had the steak pie which he said was excellent. We were too full to have a pudding! Will definitely return.

We went for lunch on Saturday 25.1.25. Pre booked. Busy on the day. We both ordered from the specials menu. We had the haggis neaps and tatties. It came with a large jug of gravy. The food took a while to come due to the volume of people , but it was worth the wait. We tried one of the guest ales, tiffin gold. Worth trying if you like ales. It was refreshing and went well with the food. For dessert we had the amble crumble with ice cream and the chocolate salted caramel tart with ice cream. Both desserts were lovely and we would have them again. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. Would go back.

Our Sunday lunch was excellent, with the beef cooked to perfection. The staff were also excellent, friendly and attentive. The experience was only let down for us by the ambience; we found the dining room cold and rather gloomy. Lovely building though.
