Smelly Belly

I've been to Stavros Taverna a few times now and I'd recommend this restaurant to everyone looking for a great night out! The atmosphere is like none other restaurant in Newquay, the staff are friendly and the food is amazing, I would especially recommend the Stavros Meze without a doubt!

This is a relaxing venue and the food is delicious. The beef special is delightful for those with a good appetite as portions are generous. I especially like the huge choice of wines that you can have by the glass to accompany each course. Definitely a place to enjoy with friends plus time it right and you can have a brilliant sunset to watch as well.

I practically lived here through-out the summer and could not have been happier. The food was quite spectacular (especially the pizza, which is made fresh on site and cooked on one of those stone ovens... authentic mmmmm!) and the general atmosphere was delightful. Lastly i must recommend the hot chocolate. The perfect pick me up on a cold, wet, 'typically cornish' summers evening. Visit if your in the area!!

Staying in the culinary desert that is Perranporth we took the back road on a rainy July night to this fabulous spot. Very popular but able to cope the staff were courteous and friendly. Would the food live up to the standards? Excellent. Well presented reasonably priced and an excellent wine list. Would definitely recommend.

Having decided to stop off at Mawgan Porth for something light to eat on our way home to Cheshire, we (2 adults and 2 children)found the whole village buzzing. It was Friday evening, and the annual Duck Race was scheduled for later on. We had initially thought that we would get something to eat at the Merrimoor Inn but it was full and there was a queue for tables. We spotted the Fire Bistro just opposite and went in. Unfortunately, we were told that unless we had booked, there were no tables available. We went outside and looked around for inspiration!. There were no other eateris in Mawgan Porth and were faced with looking for somewhere else completely or worse, getting something at a service station on the M5!. Just then, one of the waitresses (American) came out and offered us a small table situated in front of the TV. This suited my husband as the olympics were showing. We ordered our food and were then offered a 'proper' table in the dining room. Fantastic - right next to the window overlooking the beach. (I should point out that there were lots of tables outside and whilst it was a beautiful evening, it was too chilly to sit out). I ordered the Thai fishcakes and my husband had fish and chips. Both meals were just incredible. I had recently ordered something similar at a restaurant in Watergate Bay, which I had enjoyed, but were not a patch on those at Fire. The children had a pizza and spaghetti which were great but the pizza was gorgeous. So much for a light meal! The children went on and shared a chocolate dessert and husband had vanilla icecream. The service was great and the American waitress could not do enough for us. Toilet facilities also excellent! We will be going back to Cornwall next year, and possibly again later on this year and will definitely return to Fire!

It's clear that the Odds team has worked very hard to get this place 'just right', and they've done it. We've been twice now, and it's definitely worth the drive. Yes, it's a little bit more expensive than your usual haunt, but your money is spent on you, not on the owners holiday home!!... the quality of ingredients are 5* as are the kitchen and front-of-house staff. Placing Odds in the same category as Stein and Outlaw and the prices start to look very reasonable indeed. Having virtually all wines available by the glass is a fantastic idea, particularly as someone has to be driving. Oh, and if you feel the side dishes to accompany your meal are too small...just ask and you'll get plenty more. A true Cornish restaurant using the best of local seasonal ingredients...what more can you ask for?

What can I say? The restaurant's setting is inspired, the service impeccable and the food is sublime. Book without delay!

The food was superb and very reasonable. The waitress could not have been more helpful. Great atmosphere, great location and great food.

Extremely disappointed with the food, 3 out of the table of 6 had to send the food back. The steaks were under cooked, my lamb was grey where it was overcooked. The restaurant was 1/4 full, so there is no excuse. For the cost and quality of service I would struggle to give more than 2 out 5. Silks tries to be something its not. You would get better food from a Toby inn.

DO NOT GO - over priced and lousy! Not child friendly either - staff have an attitude problem!

Although the food at the smugglers is ok, it is not acceptable for a place not to receive criticism. We dined here on Monday evening and ordered 2 portions of sardines on one plate as a starter to share between 3 of us. The specials board read 'butterflied sardines', so we were surprised when our starter arrived to only fined 2 sardines on the plate. We check with the waitress, she told us it was 2 portions, so we complained to the manageress. she told us to our surprise that the chef had though the sardines so big that he was only giving one per portion!? In my book it would have to be one huge sardine to justify £5.50!! I was sharply told not to raise my voice by the manageress who didn't seem to think there a problem with this. Two minutes later she unashamedly wiped of the 's' from the end of sardines on the specials board. On paying our bill I was only charged for 1 portion of sardines but this was only because of a matter of grammer, not because they felt guilty of ripping you off. It was explained to me by the manageress that soup was £5.00 and that didn't cost much to make so it was ok to charge £5.50 for one sardine. I was treated with scorn for my complaint and will never eat there again, which is a shame because I quite like the place.

I used to work for the Windswept Cafe and i can vouch for all the staff being lovely, genuinely committed people besides the manager, ruth, who just so happens to be from the very hell nightmares call home. She still owes me, and half of the newquay population money. . ..after being able to take no more on the bully/assault front and walking out. I tried to take her to court, but unfortunately had to attend to business overseas. Now i dream until the day we meet again.

I've been to the Windswept Cafe twice so far and plan to go back as often as I can! The views are fantastic and it's a great place to go whether you want an brunch to start your day, a hot chocolate after a walk on the beach or a tasty evening meal. The menu is diverse. The food it well cooked. The service is great and as for the pudding nights they do on the 10th of each month...they're a must! I'm looking forward to checking out one of the Gourmet nights very soon.

Absolutely fantastic! The food, wine and service were all exquisite and in my opinion, far better than fifteen. Cheaper too! ++++

had lunch on 02/01/08, ostrich fillet on mash with chargrilled med veg, and two homemade cheeseburgers, hot choc, coke and angostura lime and soda. could not fault anything, which is unusual, i'm quite a stickler for detail.a lovely lunch on a very cold and windy day.

It's a really good place to get take out. Everything is fresh, made to your liking. The portions are huge, not like TV diners!! I got the prawn korma, and there was like 50 prawns in it!!! Really recommend trying it out!

Green Chilli – Newquay
The Troll

This bar/bistro offers a great deck area (for the summer) and the inside is tastefully furnished even down to local artists pictures. Recommend the Fish cakes or Tempura prawns for starter and follow it with either the Lobster or seabass. Didn’t try dessert so can’t comment. All in all an excellent meal with great setting (sunset over ocean)
