The Hopping Hare – NorthamptonVisited again 22/11/24 for tasting menu second in recent weeks and again it was amazing value with well presented, enjoyable dishes including gluten free for my wife, however we feel the portion sizes are ;little too generous and could be reduced slightly probably not a common view!! Looking forward to visit again in new year
The Hopping Hare – NorthamptonVery good service and the food was amazing. We had the specials lamb tagine and partridge. I’d love to have the lamb tagine on the menu all the time! Desert was lovely too. Always good to see Rosie and the team!

The Hopping Hare – NorthamptonAmazing hidden gem of a pub. Met a friend for a midweek lunch. The sandwiches were delicious and service was brilliant as always.
The Hopping Hare – NorthamptonFood was amazing as usual. Sadly the lights were too bright and sterile, there was little atmosphere and service was slow! Shame as was a Saturday night.
The Hopping Hare – NorthamptonExcellent food and staff as usual
The Hopping Hare – NorthamptonWhat a lovely evening out. This is the fourth time we have eaten at The Hopping Hare. They were so accommodating of our various dietary requirements. The food was promptly served and just delicious. My mother-in-law normally has a child's portion but ate her way through a sizeable and beautifully cooked adult fish and chips - though, to be fair, we did help her with the chips. My husband is gluten free and vegetarian and loved his food. We don't normally eat desert, but the sticky toffee pudding and the marmalade and almond ice cream were both delightful.
The Hopping Hare – NorthamptonDecided to eat here alone on a whim (couldn’t face cooking for one again), and I’m so glad. Brisket is one of my favourites, you know, the best comfort food cooking you remember your mum/gran/favourite relative always cooked, when you were a child? The sort of food that makes you feel cherished, and nostalgic in the absolute best way? And it’s also one of those meals that you order in the hope that it tastes just as you remember, but so often is NEVER as good as the memory, so you are disappointed and wish you chose something else? This meal was so DIFFERENT. The gorgeous flavour of the melt in your mouth tender beef, rich savoury gravy, smooth mash, onions, and perfectly cooked sweet carrots (I chose not to have the other veg) literally took me back to the best parts of my childhood, and put the biggest smile on my face. Desserts are another matter. So often they look so much better than they taste, the texture isn’t right, they’re overpoweringly sweet, or just too big. But I was intrigued by the flavours of the chocolate caramel mousse. Now I’m not a caramel fan (often in the too sickly sweet bracket) BUT, the flavours of hazelnut (favourite flavour) panna cotta and blackberry sorbet hooked me. OMG, the chocolate, hazelnut and blackberry were a ménage a trois of flavours and textures made in heaven. Adding the oh so slightly sharp, smoothly icy blackberry was an inspiration ally clever touch, that prevented the indulgent chocolate mousse and hazelnut panna cotta from being too much. Both courses and a coke for £32. I’ve had cheaper and more expensive meals, but none hold a candle to that. Thank you chef, outstanding. As Arnie once said, ‘I’ll be back’.
