Northmore Arms – OkehamptonBearslake inn is a beautiful old building which is full of history the food is first class and the staff friendly and very good at their job the food is served quickly and the presentation is excellent we have only just started using the Bearslake Inn again after many years and the new owners are a credit to the area we have recommended this Inn to lots of people and will be one of their regular customers for many years to come regards Pat Arthurs Okehampton February 2008
Bearslake Inn – OkehamptonI would like to first clarify that I am in the trade myself and I have finally found what lots of people have been trying to recreate across the width and breadth of the Country, YES finally a real pub with real locals, real ales and a real atmosphere.I could not of enjoyed my lunch more, the service was impeccable and the food was excellent.I will without a doubt return here the next time I am down.
Northmore Arms – OkehamptonWe have been visiting Tavistock for more than 20 years and ate here many years ago but wasn't impressed then. My father heard that new owners had turned the place around and we decided to give it another go. We weren't disappointed! Wonderful olde world atmosphere, warm as toast inside, polite staff (with a sense of humour) and superb food. Our steaks were like cushions! Lovely to have touches such as real linen napkins, crackers as it was near to Christmas and red wine glasses you could fit a whole bottle in! We'll definitely return - Thank you.
Bearslake Inn – Okehamptonwe wnt to the Bearslake for a meal and had a wonderful evening, All the staff were very helpful, very nice and couldnt have been friendlier. As ex publicans ourselves we are probably more critical than most, but I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone.
Bearslake Inn – Okehamptonenjoyed it very much - changed my opinion on a carvery- staff where very attentive and the dining room with that stage coach was lovely - definitely go again.
Jethros – OkehamptonA traditional country pub
Bridge Inn – Okehamptonabsolutely the best Sunday carvery in the area the staff are friendly and efficient and the food was 2nd to none if i had one complaint it would be a lack of rose wine but having said this the white wine cellar is excellent
Jethros – OkehamptonCalled in on a sunny day recently whilst on route to Devon, I had heard a buzz about this place. I took lunch of Moules frites at the al fresco area at the back of the pub, a lovely area with big umbrellas and an amazing view of the rolling countryside. The food was very good and the wine list a revelation. I can really recommend this place if your in the area or travelling along the A30 to stop off here.
Harris Arms – OkehamptonThe clovelly in is a lovely family run village pub. Very welcoming and friendly faces. Very good pub grub.
Clovelly Inn – OkehamptonWe had a lovely meal.....their curries are superb, Sunday Lunches are good value too, plenty on a plate & well presented.
Malt Scoop Inn The – OkehamptonI stopped off the A30 for lunch, the manor house is beautiful, full of fine art and antiques, the staff were very friendly and professional, the set 3 course lunch was £19 I had a pre-starter spicy tomato soup, then a fantastic pork terrine with celeriac remoulade and walnut salad, a surprise intermediate course hinted to the more dramatic evening menu and was an assiette of tuna, tuna served in three ways; Nicoise, mousse with orange and peppered and seared with creme fraiche- really good! my main was pan fried Pollock with chorizo. I couldn't manage a pud. I took refuge in the lounge in front of a crackling fire to recover.
Lewtrenchard Manor and Purple Carrot Chefs Table – OkehamptonThe Northmore Arms is pretty much the perfect country pub. It is about the size of my front room with ceilings so low that anyone above 6ft 3in would probably have to duck. The beer is all local ale and is in the barrel not on tap, there are locals at the bar (mainly farmers, sometimes with there sheepdogs) all with their own tankards. The atmosphere is brilliant, all you could ever want from a country pub. The cooking is all homemade and delicious (particularly the steak and kidney pudding). You get proper pub helpings and low pub prices. All in all it is just about the best pub experience i have ever had not to mention the classic sloping garden and the outside toilet. I would recommend it to anyone and will visit as often as possible myself. If you go i can guarantee you will not be disappointed!
Northmore Arms – OkehamptonWe have eaten at the Dartmoor in three times and the standard has been the came it was gritty now have rooms but we are not able to stay as no dogs allowed in the rooms (shame) but thy are allowed in the bar. Great place all round.
Dartmoor Inn – OkehamptonI paid my first visit to the Harris Arms last night and I was not disappointed. First of all I was pleased to find that it's a pub that serves excellent food rather than a restaurant that is nominally a pub, so I would be as happy dropping in here for a drink as I would coming in for a three course meal. My partner and I enjoyed a very good meal, well presented and using quality local produce. The menu is not extensive, but the specials vary regularly and the ingredients are locally sourced and of outstanding quality. A strong feature of this establishment is its interesting and very reasonably priced wine selection. The owners come from New Zealand and have a background in wine, which is a real strength of the place. For the beer drinker they serve good local real ales too. I would recommend the Harris Arms to anyone who enjoys good food and wine at a sensible price, and I look forward to returning soon. It's not a large place but it is popular, so, if you're planning to eat, book before making a special journey.
Harris Arms – OkehamptonThe food at this establishment was so fantastic that I went back to eat there 4 times in one week. The menu is inventive and imaginative and presentation was second to none. The Chef takes time to come out of the kitchen and speak to his customers?infact I spent sometime in his company and nothing is too much trouble for him. This is a first class restaurant and very reasonably priced considering the class of meals served. This is not a "CHEESY CHIPS" roadside diner but a superb a la carte restaurant and should be visited at the earliest opportunity. GREAT FOOD - WELL PRICED AND SUPERB SERVICE!

Betty Cottles Inn – OkehamptonThree of us just spent the weekend at the Bearslake, and came away feeling sad we were going back to the real world. The place is full of old world charm, comfort, good food, ale & wine. All served up by a family that have been obviously born with the 'friendly' gene! Evening meals were plentiful and tasty and everything freshly cooked - the menu appears to change daily depending on what is available. Breakfast is delicious with proper fried bread (not the greasy deep fried stuff you quite often get). The rooms where very cosy and comfortable and we really felt welcome. The owners always found time to chat with a smile and couldn't do enough for us. Defintely want to go back!
