Was just driving past at lunchtime today. Called in for a quick bite. What a nice surprise it turned out to be. Wide menu for lunchtime. beautifully prepared meals in lovely surroundings overlooking the Leeds Liverpool canal. Will certainly go back again.

Dreadful Disgusting Food Dirty Cold Place!Took Mum for meal that was completely inedible. Complained to the bar maid and asked to speak to manager but was told he wasn't about. The food was badly cooked and tepid, we had fish and chips and the chips were undercooked, the fish was very greasy and the peas were cold. I was really disappointed! This pub is letting down Lancashire! It could be so much better but it seems like the person or people who own it are past caring. It is dirty, cluttered and shabby, with a complete mismatch of tables and seating etc. It's clear that the place is run on a shoestring, with no quality or care in it's food provision. The Ship is a place to AVOID!

food quality and service is 'fine dining' and very good at that, but let down by awful monotonous loud piped music, blasts of hot air coming from under the seats and large TV screen flickering in the corner. At 'fine dining' prices I was disappointed to be uncomfortable whilst eating what was excellent food.

Visited tonight for the first time. Top class food great enthusiastic staff, great busy atmosphere. Wonderful a lift to the first floor restaurant so I know we can go back again and take Dad easily. Would recommend without concern. Scallops cooked to perfection, duck pink as requested and my husband would have eaten his meal twice at least it was so delicious. Will go there again soon.

This is a nice pub I go to on a regular basis, nice atmosphere, nice decor and nice people and always good entertainment. Saw a band on there on Friday 13th, (omfg or something they were called) they were really good will watch out for them again. Like to keep up with the local talent! Nice food too.

I'd read all the previous comments about this restaurant and still decided to give it a try. I went with two of my friends as we were celebrating our birthdays and I have to say our experience from start to end was fantastic......from well mannered staff who took my reservation over the phone to the waiters who attended to us during our meal. For £6.95 you can have a starter and a main course or pizza or pasta dish. The portions are really good and the food was delicious. It was well worth a visit and if I'm in Ormskirk again I would definitely go again.

Disgusting attitude and customer service from the Landlady, my meal very poor and tasteless and were overcharged for food we never ordered...upon complaint received no apology and absolute barrage of abuse from her...shameful in front of her other Customers...avoid at all costs!

We booked a table for two here and mentioned at the time of booking that we wanted to use our Telegraph privilege card. We were assured that this would be fine. We made a deliberate point of making sure that they understood about this. We had the meal a couple of days ago: an unremarkable three course dinner including a Sunday roast. We've eaten much better meals locally, and paid less for them. Upon querying the bill, we were told that we couldn't use our Telegraph card because they stopped accepting them three months ago. We were not told this at the time of booking, in fact, we were told the exact opposite. Obviously, our choices of food had been influenced by the offer. The manager was not available and we were not offered any form of compensation to make up for this. Neither of us usually write reviews however we are appalled by this. The new Telegraph 2012 booklet, in which they are listed, arrived a few days before our meal. This is false advertising. We spent twice the amount that we were expecting to, based on the offer. Neither the food nor the service were good enough to make up for it. Another time, we will certainly eat elsewhere.

I've eaten at The Blue Mallard quite a few times as I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The service is friendly and efficient and the staff are very pleasant. There is always something different on the menu and I'm always spoilt for choice. The food is presented to the highest standard and is excellent. I can't praise the chef's and staff enough.

We visited because we had a Groupon voucher but we will definitely return as fully paying customers. From the outset we got a wonderfully warm welcome, matched by the roaring log fires. My starter was a gorgeously creamy warm goats cheese with a delicious beetroot salad while my husband had a generous platter of locally smoked salmon. This was followed by mains of a succulent sirloin steak and bubbling lasagna, finished off by gorgeous creme brulee. Truly, this lovely evening brightened up the last Sunday in January. Highly recommended.

Homestead farms shop and restaurant is a working arable farm. The shop sells locally sourced produce. The restaurant serves home cooked excellent food. The menu changes monthly and there is a daily special soup and plate pie. Portions are generous , prices are reasonable. You can call in for tea coffee and a cake or go for as menu courses as your appetite allows . 'Sunday roast' served sat sun and Monday! The staff are friendly and very efficient. Good access for wheelchairs. Closed Tuesday's . I've eaten here weekly for 18 months and never been disappointed!
