good food

As a regular at the fat olive I am never disappointed in the food or the service. The regular offers are incredibly good value and tempt me in frequently. All the staff are efficient and friendly and know their menu, requests for alternative combinations greeted with a no problem approach. my future custom is guaranteed!

Excellent night with friends, friendly and accommodating staff, excellent food at a reasonable price. This was our first visit and definitely won't be the last.

My wife and i visited the Red Lion for lunch recently,we were over the moon with the quality of food and service, also very reasonably priced.We will be returning soon to sample more.

I often go down to the Red Lion for tea because it is good quality, fresh food at very reasonable prices. I love the beef noodles, but for my past few visits I have forced myself to try other things on the menu and so I can now also highly recommend the monkfish risotto, Goosenard duck and fish and chips. The only thing left to say is go and try it out... the food really is fantastic.

HAVE JUST ARRIVED HOME FROM THE OLIVE, WE DINE THERE EVERY MONDAY. ALWAYS EXCELLENT FOOD BUT THE FOOD TODAY WAS ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT. GOOD FOOD, FRIENDLY STAFF AND VALUE FOR MONEY. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I have now visited the red lion on two occasions, and both have been very enjoyable evenings. The most recent visit was a Spanish theme night. The tapas was delicious, and my wife and i both had an enjoyable pork fillet for main. Good atmosphere, good service, all in all a pleasurable experience.

I recently visited the Red Lion completely on a whim with my husband while passing through Mawdesley. The exterior of the pub was what attracted us, especially the sweet little fence separating the outdoor area. The staff were relaxed yet utterly professional and couldn't do enough to please us, particularly the tall boy behind the bar. We chose to dine on the 3 course Sunday Lunch menu (amazing value!) and I have to say, the chocolate fondant pudding has knocked bread and butter pudding off the menu at my 'last supper' - it was divine! All in all I was pleased to be reminded of just how great British pubs can be. Keep up the good work!

Excellent in every particular, I can't keep away from the superb beer,food & staff and as a result, may end up in penury before i am much older.my wife of 52yrs, claims i love the hopvine more than her !!

A traditional old style pub,with original features something that is rare these days. Staff are always friendly. Drinks are very good.The food is very tasty. A place really worth a visit. Although if your allergic to dogs, it may be an issue as dogs are allowed in the bar if well behaved.

This is the best restaurant we have ever been to. The food is just amazing, and such a brilliant choice. We have been over Christmas, lunch time and in the evening, and all menus are superb. The service is the best we have ever experienced in this country, it is the outstanding service that we see in other countries. The manager is very attentive and eager to please your every wish. Your drink is never empty without one of the wonderful serving staff asking if you would like another. Above all, I can not express how much I love this restaurant! I have recommended it to everyone I know

We recently visited the Red Lion on a Sunday evening and I was impressed by how busy the pub was despite the time of year. We had a drink in the lounge (I opted for a real ale) while choosing our food. After much deliberation, I chose a goat's cheese starter and chicken for my main course. The food was well cooked and really beautifully presented, the portions were generous and all the flavours worked well together. The dauphinoise potatoes that came with the chicken were delicious, but that wasn't enough to stop me stealing a couple of my partner's chips. I think they were fried twice and were gorgeous - I keep telling everyone how nice they were! We didn't have space for a pudding each, so we finished off the meal by sharing a chocolate fondant. It was chocolaty and perfectly gooey in the middle and came with a vanilla ice-cream which complemented the chocolate flavour well. I will definitely be returning when I next visit the area - there's lots more on the menu I want to sample!

Visited this restaurant this week. As a frequent diner of the old Red Lion I was very disappointed at the standard of cooking. The food was lukewarm to say the least and the quality of the beef was not good at all. Good produce is key to these village pubs and this is not present at the Red Lion at all The owners seem young and inexperienced and have a lot to live up to as this place once had a fabulous reputation.

Following reports that the new managers of the Red Lion had received spontaneous applause on two separate occasions recently from group-booking diners at the end of their Festive meals, four friends and I decided to investigate yesterday lunchtime. The bar area has been refurbished giving it a cosy, welcoming feel, and the newly re-opened restaurant in the conservatory has been given a complete make-over since we last visited over a year ago. The new landlady, Helen, made us feel very welcome, and head chef, Ross, who has a growing reputation in the area, did not disappoint! The Festive Lunch menu was £12.95 for two courses, or £15.95 for three. Combined with friendly and efficient service, this proved to be very good value indeed, with a choice of three starters and three main courses. We all had starters which were delicious and then I had the salmon which was beautifully cooked, crisp on top, but soft and tender inside. My fellow diners had the pork and the turkey and were equally impressed. Too full for puddings, we all opted for coffees to finish. The whole bill, with drinks, large wines and a couple of gin and tonics, came to £88. We all judged our visit to have been well worthwhile. Apart from the Festive and full A La Carte menus, we also noticed the Light Bites menu, which has apparently got people talking. My friends Sally and Paul have become frequent visitors for this and say they can’t believe how they do it for just £5 per person. We are planning to investigate this one for ourselves next week!

I visited piri piri a couple of weeks ago with my partner and another couple as our usual haunt was booked up, and how glad was I !! The food the staff the service everything was great cant fault anything about it lovely keep it up. Going again tonight x

Ormskirk is not somewhere I go to eat but chance has given me the opportunity to dine in this restaurant twice now, it ticks all the boxes plus. Staff friendly and professional, seem to really care that the diner is happy eating. Ambience terrific. Very clean. Food- well I am so impressed if anywhere gets a veggie meal just right and yes they do, my companion as an omnivore was not disappointed, the food is really excellent, they COOK food to delight the palate.. So looking forward to the next visit- yes folks, we don't have to be stuck on the same menu, specials really are special/

I recently visited the Peacock with a friend on a Friday evening around 6.00 p.m. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. However by around 8.30 p.m. our bill was placed on the table without us asking for it. We then asked for tea and coffee much to the waiter's surprise. Once the drinks arrived the bill was once again placed on the table by the manager and it was very clear that we had overstayed our welcome. My friend and I were quite upset about this as we had planned to stay longer, making the most of the opportunity to catch up. We approached the manager who dealt with our bill and told him that we felt we were being pushed out. He said that he had to "look after the tables", meaning keeping the customers turning over. We said that there were empty tables available and there were no customers waiting to be seated. He was unapologetic when we said we thought that this was an unacceptable way to treat customers. This completely ruined an otherwise very positive experience. It is a shame because I will not visit this restaurant again.
