Situated in the old centre of Woodstock, La Galleria offers fabulously authentic Italian food in lovely surroundings, including a courtyard for outside dining in the summer. The service, however, has been hit and miss. Sometimes, there has been no problem, but on several occasions now, the excellent food has been marred somewhat by the rudeness of the waiting staff, who have on occasion been surly and pedantic (I'm not sure some of them quite understand the notion of hospitality). It is a shame that this lets down an otherwise amazing restaurant.

The Rose and Crown in Oxford's lovely North Parade Avenue may be slightly off the beaten track but this is only to its advantage, as it's a lovely old-world pub offering good value for money, classic dishes, friendly service and pleasant (if not spacious) surroundings. The Rose and Crown is more of a lunch pub due to its size and surroundings, but its well-done classics, including steaks, omelettes, sausages and salads etc are delicious, generous and cheap. A little gem!

Three friends and I went to La Manoir last Friday for lunch to celebrate one of my friends 50th birthday. What a lovely place to do that. We arrived early for our table but were shown through to the lovely lounge area where we enjoyed drinks and really unusual/imaginative hors d'oeuvres and olives. We were then shown through to the lovely conservatory dining room where we enjoyed the 10 course taster lunch. Every course was delicious and served by really charming staff. They described the course to us as it was presented so we knew exactly what we were eating, and also answered any questions we had. They were very attentive with the wine/water refills but we never felt like we were being crowded. We finished off the meal with a selection of cheese from the most amazing cheese board I have ever seen. We then wandered in the beautiful gardens, where all the fresh produce for the restaurant is grown. We were there from 12.15 until about 4.30 and had a really lovely time. I would recommend this eating experience to anyone. It is the place for a special as it is not cheap, but a real treat to have now and then.

Go to Raj or Curry Paradise instead. This place looks ok but the food in my opinion was poor - felt like I had wasted my money. Friends were also unhappy - will never go here again and nor should anyone with a bit of commonsense.

Despite the fairly drab interior San Carlo produces good quality food with all the usual suspects you'd expect from an Italian. Visiting on a Monday, I felt a bit self-conscious being the only diner in the restaurant. Staff were efficient and friendly.

Despite the rave reviews, the delightful interior, the traditional dress of the staff the food doesn't live up to the expectation. Having visited twice I found the coconut prawns bland, the chicken satay lacking and the pad thai oily. Great environment and friendly staff but shame the food isn't quite up to the hype.

WITHOUT PREJUDICE. ONE OF THE MOST AGGRESSIVE ENCOUNTERS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. WARNING DO NOT GO THERE.

Shaan is the best Indian restaurant in Oxfordshire, Whitney. The food is delicious and appetizing. It is also very presentable. The staff make you very welcomed once you walk through the doors. I would recommend this restaurant to others.

Would absolutely recommend the food and the staff, but they leave at 11.00 and then you are in the hands of an aggressive, rude, landlord, who believes he is doing you a service and will tell you so, be aware.

Fabulous food, excellent wines and a setting and service to die for make the Ben Jonson the only pub in Oxfordshire worth visiting!

I have to say my opinion is a bit mixed when it comes to the restaurant. The setting is lovely, and in summer diners can sit outside and enjoy a meal in the courtyard. I have been there several times now, and while the food is fantastic, the service is temperamental and meals are pricy here. My boyfriend took me to La Galleria on Valentine's day and the meal was exemplary, although whilst we were ordering, attended by a waiter and a waitress, the waitress smirked at the waiter in response to something I had asked for, which I thought was shamelessly rude. But, thinking this was a one-off and having enjoyed the food there, I booked the restaurant for my birthday meal out this year with friends and family and the staff were rather difficult to say the least. They hurried us to order even though we were still waiting for the last members of the party to arrive; one waiter in particular was rather too jokey and pedantic to the point of rudeness the whole night, and when one of my friends simply asked if she could have a starter as a main course, a misunderstanding ensued where the staff became rude. Beware also of asking for tap water- we were presented with bottled water instead and charged for it. I'm afraid that this has rather put me off returning to the restaurant, and it is a real shame, because the food is out of this world. It is only the staff that let La Galleria down.

This is such a lovely, friendly and intimate thai restaurant. I have been many times now, and always come back because of the quality of the food, the friendly staff and the value for money. it is perhaps not as smart nor as exotic as the Thai Orchid just up the road, but it is one of those restaurants that never disappoints. The starters, thai green curry, bah me pad noodles, chicken pad thai and dum sing are particularly good, and often a meal for two does not exceed £15! The staff are always friendly and hospitable, and make dining there a pleasure.

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant after friends recommended it. I have to say, we were both utterly disappointed with everything- the food, the service, the whole experience. The setting was pleasant and intimate. My boyfriend ordered a pizza, and I ordered the spaghetti carbonara. We also ordered garlic bread. I was presented with the most tiny garlic bread I have ever seen, so I was not impressed. I hoped at least the main courses would be good. When they arrived (after over half an hour of waiting) my carbonara was revolting: spaghetti swimming in a watery supermarket style sauce, with a few measly bits of ham and (oddly) whole mushrooms thrown in! My boyfriend's pizza was equally supermarket-tasting. For the price, which is pretty expensive, the many reasonably-priced, decent italian restaurants in Banbury far surpass Peppers. The service was also poor; we had to wait a long time to catch the waitress's attention, and the place seemed to be run by teenagers, more intent on chatting to each other than doing their jobs. When we left, we did not even receive a good bye! Suffice it to say that I will not be returning to Peppers, and I would advise anyone thinking of going there to look elsewhere.

Spurred on by a most enjoyable initial visit I have returned on several occasions. Nothing is too much trouble - a dish can be personalised to your liking & the whole atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Choose upstairs for the best atmosphere & enjoy.

I love Thai food and have visited many 'fancy' and expensive restaurants in and around London. This unassuming little restaurant was a real pleasant surprise; the food was delicious and the staff friendly and efficient. Can't recommend it too highly. Go visit!
