i visited the restaurant on a Sunday night- I have to say the set up was lovely - however the main courses were awful- I eat a lot of Indian food and maybe having the choice of Bradford on my doorstep has given me an acquired taste for Indian food. I wouldn't recommended this restaurant- it's not worth the walk down the Clarence Dock!
Sparkie
Hidden away in the Casino in Clarence Docks is the most delightful Indian restaurant. Forget your Aagrah's and your Akbars, The Bird's food knocks them all for six and even though the food is top notch the price is the same as your average Indian meal at the city centre restaurants. I can not tell you just how nice it is to have good service, fantastic food, lovely surroundings and not be charged the earth. The Tapas starters came in individual cones, just enough for one person as an appetiser, the Fish Massala was the best I have ever tasted. For main course we chose a lamb dish, along with rice and a chilly garlic Nan, again very tasty. The menu is not extensive but enough and even a refreshing change as you don’t need to ponder for hours to decide what you want. You should experience this restaurant to get the full story, make sure your guests are over 18 as this is a Casino.
Analyse
We decided to try The Bird for our wedding anniversary after it was recommended to us by a food critic friend.
We went early on a Tuesday evening, so it was quiet. The surroundings were nice enough, the Service was very good, but what was truly special was the food, which was outstanding.
Each Piece of our TAPAS starter was individually very well prepared and flavoured. As regular consumers of Indian cuisine, for a first visit we stuck to the 'basics' - Chicken Tikka and Chicken Madras. In both cases, the meat melted in the mouth, and the sauces were exceptional; the 'onion' naan was also a nice surprise that had us ordering a second.. The desserts were not the usual to be found with an indian cuisine, and were the perfect end to the meal; a particular delight was the ginger & orange sponge with cardamon custard and cinnamon ice cream.
A simple menu, offering food with subtle whilst complimentary flavours combined with quality ingredients, perfect cooking and presentation made this a truly perfect meal -the best 'indian' we've had, and extremely good value -we cant wait to go again.
