I had lunch there in 2013. The food was excellent.

Overpriced even for the lake district. The coffee cup was a tiny teacup & only half full(£1.75! that's £3.50 for a full cup), the guy serving expecting you to fill up the other half with milk. Also the toasted teacake i was given (£1.95) was no bigger than a rich tea biscuit. Should have known when we entered, only one couple were in there & a man sitting down, He was the guy serving. When we left approx 7 mins later the place was deserted. We were both completely underwhelmed & still in need of sustenance & a caffeine kick. Not two minutes later we were outside a place called Greens which was almost full. We got the last table & had a proper teacake & the coffee was in a cafetiere with almost 3 cups in. There's too much competition in that area to think you can get away with taking advantage of people... We will never set foot in The Cumbria Cafe again.. Well done Greens for saving the day, What a fab place.

Please do not book with this restaurant, please read about the way in which they treat the foreign staff and treat them on "Gumtree" it's like reverting back to the 1800's low paid, very very long working hours, and most of all the abuse these employers dish out to the foreign staff is well outdated.
Thanks for reading

The ambiance at the Cumbria Cafe is unequalled in Grasmere. On any given summer evening, one can feast on traditional and moderately priced English dishes while gazing at a wishing well on a village lane and listen to the gentle bleating of the sheep nearby. The service is excellent, the dinners delicious, and views of the fells breathtaking.
