About Light Of Bengal

For Liverpool's curry aficionadoes, The Light Of Bengal on Aigburth Road is quite simply one of the city's best Indian restaurants. It's on the main road from the city centre to the airport and is very much a traditional Indian and the interior features a mix of open tables and intimate booths with etched glass panels. What you get is quality Indian food with standouts such as their Goan Green Chicken and the Bengal Special Masala. They also specialise in fresh fish dishes such as Tandoori Trout. Both Cobra and Kingfisher are available on draught as well as a selection of wines. Open 365 days a year from 5pm until midnight.

i have been going to this restaurant for approximately a year, at least once a month. I have taken friends to eat here. its the best indian restaurant ive found in Liverpool and ive tried a fair few, both eat-in and takeaway. my personal favourites here are the coconut powder that comes in the sauces and pickles tray with the poppadoms, the chicken tikka masala, the peshwari naans are very nice. reasonable price, never had trouble getting a table (but we don't tend to go at busy times), theyre happy to discuss menu and drink options, always clean. have to say I'm really surprised at some of the bad reviews, like I said, its the best ive been to! My boyfriend loves it too. if anything sometimes it can be a bit quiet but ive never waited long for food or drinks and all orders have been correct and tasty.

We visited your restaurant last night as we have done for the last 6 New Years Eve's. we had pre booked our table for 8pm, and we arrived 10 minutes early. Your restaurant was so full, people were standing alongside table were other customers were eating. We eventually got our table at 8.30pm, and then had to wait almost 30 minutes before anyone came to take our drinks order. This was followed by another long wait to order food and to be served our first course. By the time we had finished our meal it was almost 11.30 pm, we had been in your restaurant over three and a half hours, as had a lot of other dissatisfied customers. Yet all this time, people were coming in and going out with their take-away orders, while those sat at the tables had an ever increasing wait to be served. We had planned to go on to a New Years Eve party after our meal, which is why we booked for 8pm, thinking we would be finished and on our way by 10pm. As it was we had to cancel our plans as we were so late leaving your restaurant, it was by that time impossible to reach were we were going before midnight. We are very disappointed at the service we received, though there was nothing wrong with the food, but the long wait, now means we will have to consider going to a different restaurant for next New Years Eve. It might have been a nice gesture if you had offered all your customers a round of free drinks while they endured the long wait for their meals. I look forward to reading your response

Tried this restaurant after hearing all the good reviews. The food was awful beer was flat. And me and my girlfriend ended up with food poisoning so bad we where vomiting and had diarrhoea for 2 days. Dirty horrible restaurant best avoided.

Been eating at this Restaurant since it opened, it is by far the best in Liverpool, each meal is different and you get just what you ordered, so tasty and served by friendly staff and reasonably priced, what more could one ask for? The Manager Mr.Rahman is very welcoming. We have taken many of our Asian Friends there and they also agree it is a great Restaurant. Next time you want a good Indian Meal, try The Light of Bengal.

we came across this place by chance , but have been coming back ever since its menu is varied and the staff are great , the head waiter runs a very tight ship ! Ask any of the staff ! great place to eat

After reading the reviews, we decided to pay a visit. The food was very good and so was the service. Mo and the rest of the waiters were very attentive. The food was full of flavour and you have to have the chutneys with poppadoms, ( 6 different ones. fantastic ). all in all a very enjoyable meal. We will be going back and making it our first choice curry house.
