Entering the tiny(1) dining room of Medici Tapas, which swelled with sanguine, scoffing or satiated tables of people, felt like entering the bustling kitchen of some west-yorkshire matriarch.
"Grab a seat darlin'!" she boomed, busy behind the counter
"I'll have some bread on that table before you can say 'patatas bravas'!" (which she did!). Our fellow diners ('extended family' to the matriarch), consumed with consumption, barely noticed our elbows in the back of their necks as we apologize our way to our cluster of seats.
A small 'immediate family' of staff(2) share their superior's enthusiasm, warmth and broad West Yorkshire accent. Our zealous, constellation of pic 'n' mix dishes are memorised, cooked and delivered promptly.
Although crucial to the identity of the restaurant, the Spanish theme is almost irrelevant. It seems both probable and forgivable that the inspiration for Medici Tapas came from a family holiday to Benidorm; regardless of the food's authenticity, it was plentiful, presentable and bloody delicious. The Patatas Bravas (which we DID eventually say) were golden, fluffy and drenched in a salsa brava like none I've ever tasted(3). The tortillas tasted fresh, comforting and made me smile involuntarily, all washed down with a characteristic charm and a warmth usually reserved for Otley pub landladies.
The entire meal was how I imagine a post-summer holiday repast in Mel B's childhood home would be. In fact, if somebody had revealed to me, during my last meal at Medici Tapas, that the restaurant was, in fact, the flagship for Scary Spice's esoteric advent into the food industry, I would have only been surprised by her dark-horse cooking skills.
(1) Tiny is an understatement. Think Sylvanian Families small...then divide by two.
(2) Perhaps this should be Staff of Immediate family?
(3) It made La Tasca's version taste like the dish water used to wash a pan of Dolmio.

Me and my friends ate here on Christmas eve and would recommend it to anyone!

I ate here a few weeks ago, i thought the food was delicious we had tapas and was reasonably priced.
It was my birthday when i was there and the staff made a big fuss of me which was really nice.
The staff were very good and even went out for a bottle of wine for us as we had not brought our own.
As i was visiting from Newcastle i would definitely go out of my way to visit this restaurant again when i am next in Leeds.
thanks for some great food and a great night out!

We had our xmas eve meal here and it was really lovely. Our seafood was perfectly cooked and delicious, the service was really personal and warm. Cannot recommend this place enough. The owner Kelly was amazing, really made us feel at home and even wrapped up what we couldn't finish to take home with us. Brilliant. Amazing value. We are going back with a larger party later this month after raving about the excellent tapas.

Headingley's Medici Tapas Restaurant was my first experience of Tapas food, and after my enjoyable experience there definitely wont be my last. It was such a good and friendly atmosphere with good music and hard working staff.
I chose to arrange a Christmas Meal there because it was local and nearby and the staff didn't fail to impress with their customer service, presentation and the delicious food.
Thanks Kelly and your staff, all 22 of us had a fantastic time.

What a great restaurant! Small and perfectly cosy, it has a homely and comfortable feel. The service is excellent and the food is even better with plenty of choice and the option of a mezze if you just can't choose so you can sample a little of everything. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if tapas is what you're after. A very enjoyable meal.

I've got to say the Medici has to be one of the best Tapas places in Leeds, and I've tried them all. I was my first time there and the food was excellent along with the service. For me the meze was the best I've ever eaten so full marks to all the staff, I will be eating there again for sure.

A really nice little place. Tasty, good quality food and friendly staff happy to make recommendations. As a vegetarian I sometimes find tapas restaurants with little veggie choice beyond spanish omlette and patatas bravas but here there were loads of dishes. There was a good range for meat eaters too.

Amazing!! ....thought I'd start with my overall thoughts of Medici Tapas. Looks a little dingy from outside so was slightly wary when going in. As soon as we were seated my worries had gone, the staff were great and the ambience was traditional and appropriate.
Olives, dips and pitta were bought to us while we looked at the menu. We had the Mezz which is when they just bring you a bit of everything for £15 a head. Fantastic. It was all delicious with huge variety of meats, fish, potato, breads and anything else you can think of, there was more than ample for the 6 of us. We drunk our way through 2 bottles of vodka that wed bought with us and only paid £2.50 corkage per bottle. A very cheap way of doing things. Kelly our waitress was outstanding.
To sum..a brilliant little restaurant. It was a little chilly however so do bring a jumper.
Seriously not to be missed.
