I have been to this restaurant 4 times now, twice with just one friend and twice in a group of about 6-8 people. On the first 3 occasions the food was excellent. The service was mixed; twice very good and twice not so good at all. On 2 of these occasions we took advantage of the 'Early Bird' offer and did indeed get excellent value for money. The disappointment came recently when a group of us went back; not only had all the prices increased substantially, but the portions were substantially smaller too. Moreover, all members of our group felt the food quality was lower than on previous occasions. Furthermore, there were no cocktail offers available as there had been on previous occasions, the service was extremely slow and we were transferred to another table before our desserts had arrived in order to make room for another group of diners. Overall we felt that, after making a great effort to build a good reputation, the restaurant, knowing they'd hooked their customers, now provide a very second rate service to that offered when they first opened. We were really disappointed and probably won't go back.

I visited Mex in early Feb with some friends to celebrate my birthday. It was a good night even though our food order was mixed up and some of it had to be replaced. We visited again last night (30 April) to celebrate my husbands birthday. It was very busy. We ended up waiting for our food for and hour and half and it only arrived after we told them we were going to leave. My own meal of fishcakes was very nice; however my husbands burger was so burnt it was inedible and half of the topping was missing. Thus, we will definitely not be returning!

went to this restaurant in late feb and had an absolutely lovely meal, the atmosphere was lovely and food excellent. We went on a Saturday night which was really busy and if there's more than two id recommend to book, however with two of us there was a 30min wait at 9pm so prepare to wait. despite this there is a lovely bar to have a drink and wait. prices are very reasonable and much cheaper than chiquitos. i haven't took advantage of the early bird menu between 5-7pm but it would be a complete bargain at 50% off. would highly recommend.

I've been to this restaurant twice and taken advantage of the 50% price reduction between 5.00 p.m. - 7.00 p.m. The food is great with a vast selection of vegetarian choice. The only downside is the loud music that plays continuously. I'm not an old fuddy-duddy but I don't like having to shout to my fellow diners. Turn down the music and this place would be FANTASTIC!

cantina mex is a great place to eat out.I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.It was a sunday afternoon.Four of us went along for dinner.Booking advisable i'd say! Fantastic sunday afternoon reductions. A whopping 50% off. Very friendly efficient staff! Food was great,especially the rib eye steak! Give it a try.A good friendly restaurant in Hull's old town, which was much needed.
