Refuge By Volta is the exciting new restaurant at Manchester's Principal Hotel, brought to you by the award-winning team behind Volta in West Didsbury.
Refuge By Volta is the new city centre venture for the award-winning team behind Volta in West Didsbury. It opened in September 2016 at the Principal Manchester (formerly the Palace Hotel) to rave reviews and you can expect eclectic menus with a real international flavour, stunning décor and an impressive selection of wines, cocktails and craft beers served from an imposing granite bar. Justin Crawford and Luke Cowdrey, aka The Unabombers, are the international DJs turned restaurateurs behind Volta and now Refuge. Working with Head Chef Alex Worrall, their menus offer a selection of small plates (Voltini) and large plates meant for sharing with a real international flavour inspired by their travels across the globe. Signature plates include Lamb shawarma, Wild bass ceviche, and Crispy buttermilk chicken with cornbread. The Dining Room is open for lunch and dinner daily and the Public Bar day and night for cocktails, craft beers, wines and spirits or just a tea or coffee. Refuge also has a function space (The Den) with private bar that can accommodate up to 80, a smaller private dining room with glass walls looking out onto the Dining Room and the Winter Garden, a perfect space in the evening to kick back and enjoy a cocktail.
There aren’t enough words to state just how good this place is, from the geeeting at the front door, excellent all round service, fantastic room to the amazing job Justin and Luke have done with ‘the Refuge’ - seeing really is believing.

Love this place! My favourite in Manchester by far. It has it all. Bar, tunes, restaurant, space, architecture. Been a a few times, latterly to use it as an office in the day time which they have been encouraging.

THE place in Manchester for sure. Awesome location in the old Palace Hotel. Huge space with restaurant, bar and other rooms. Enjoyed a few pre dinner drinks especially the pale ale. Food choices were excellent. Loved the Lamb Shawarma especially. It is now a regular haunt!
