I first visited this restaurant several years ago- my friends lived there-and took us there- the food was beyond belief!! even in India -its hard to find such good quality! mind-blowing. I am visiting Chorley again- and will definitely be visiting!

This is best Indian Restaurant by far in the North West and rivals a few places I have tried in London. The food was amazing and as one other commenter mentioned not the usual meat and same ole sauce. I could not recommend this place any higher for you curry lovers out there. Cant wait for my next visit.

I can only comment about the take-away side of the business.... but what I can say, is that it was FANTASTIC - beautiful, well cooked food, well seasoned, lovely and hot............ not just your usual indian takeaway rubbish of "same old sauce, with a bit of this and that added to it".................... Great food, highly recommended

I have to agree with Chris Blundell who wrote about the Southport/Ormskirk Blue Elephant. He was lucky to only wait 20 minutes for his meal though. Try 1 hour! I didn't want to complain about this place as I have been before (a good while ago though) and it was great, but it seems to have changed staff and it is now awful with its service. Food is very good but you won't want it after such a huge wait. There was no explanation or apology until AFTER we had complained. They decided they'd take the drinks off the bill (1 beer and a few tonic waters) which is an insult. We kept complaining until they took off the price of three meals which we had hardly touched due to not feeling hungry anymore. The manager was then terse and unfriendly when we left. I expect more when I'm paying good money to a restaurant. Sadly disappointing. Warren Buffet was right - It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.

Blue Elephant - Chorley This is an indian restaurant situated in a nice location with a good sized car park. The decor inside is modern and there is a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The The staff are smartly dressed and attentive, however, we did feel they were a little too attentive and intrusive at times. There is a wide selection of dishes although given the quality of the food, we did not feel that this represented good value for money. We both had chicken dishes, and although the chicken was very tasty, we were both very disappointed with the sauces. The masala sauce was more reminiscent of a korma but with red colouring, in that, it tasted very sweet and coconuty… I was told that the sauce consisted of a great deal of sugar and half coconut/almond flakes which would explain the very, very sweet and sickly taste. The waiter also told me that if I saw what they had put in the sauce in terms of sugar etc I would not eat the dish… The side order of chips, which I was told would be the best chips around, tasted like they had been re fried and were, as a result very greasy. The mushroom pilau rice tasted like it had also been reheated on at least one occasion. The toilet facilities were adequate and clean. The mints were nice. In summary: Great location Nice Decor Attentive staff Disappointing food - will not return or recommend.

hello. I went to the Blue Elephant in SOUTHPORT for Valentines day. We booked a table for 8pm, so we got there at 755 and we were seated straight away, excellent I though. We were sat near a window however as soon as we were sat the waiter just walked off !! Ok i thought, he must be getting a drinks menu. 20 mins later I had to get up and go to the bar myself !!! We then waited a further 10 mins, we caught a waiters eye who came over and took our order. We wanted some poppadoms first, then starters then our main course.. After about 20 mins we saw the waiter walk over with some poppadoms !! Great we thought, but no, there were for the couple who had just walked in 5 minutes before !!! Ok we thought, ours are on the way... 20 mins later our starters came ( still waiting for the poppadoms !! ) The starters were amazing mind you !!! A waiter came and cleared our empty dishes and we ordered some more drinks... a further 20 mins passed so I decided to go to the bar to chase up our drinks, no order had been placed !!! 10 mins later our main course arrived, which once again was amazing !!!Now I thought when your plates are taken away its time for a coffee or a dessert, maybe not at the Blue Elephant !!! We were left for a further 20 mins just waiting. So we asked for our bill.... 20 mins passed and no bill showed up. Enough was enough, we left our tables and walked to the till area were we asked if we can pay... The bill had our missing poppadoms on it and three rounds off drinks !!! Amazing !!! Naturally we asked for this to be removed, but it seemed the guy wasn't really that bothered. We expressed our dissatisfaction about the service, once again the didn't seem concerned.. We payed our corrected bill and left. Leaving NO TIP !!!!! It really was a shame as the food was amazing, its just a pity we were let down by the service. Ok it was busy being Valentines night, but surely the restaurant should do the basics right !!! Do I recommend it... Well YES, but only as a take away !!!

Visited on March 17th for my birthday meal with my wife. It is very well furnished and has a nice lounge area by the bar as you walk in so you can relax before your meal. We were met courteously and shown to one of a number of tables and ours was in a horseshoe shape and the seats extremely comfortable to sit on. It has an extensive menu with all that you'd expect with some nice specials as well. we both started with Shish kebabs and both had chicken korai for main. They were both excellent with the korai being one of the best I've ever had. They were decent portions and my wife asked for part of her meal to take away which they were more than happy to do for us. My wife finished with a floater coffee and we then retired to near the bar area where we relaxed on the leather sofas. We had a few more drinks and left after an hour or so. The whole time we were there the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and made it a lovely night. I highly recommend and will hopefully be a regular of this restaurant. Prices around £4 for starter and £7-£12 for main. Very good value and lovely food.

I am sorry, but my experience at Blue Elephant has been very disappointing. Few weeks ago I had to take my daughter to her friend's birthday party in an Italian Restaurant in Eccleston. My wife and I planned to drop her off, go for an Indian meal somewhere close by and then collect her later. Not being local I searched the net and after seeing so many good reviews of Blue Elephant decided to give it a go. It was a Thursday night and there weren't a lot of people. We were bitterly disappointed. The food I can only describe as "atrocious". My wife and I eat out every week and visit many Indian Restaurants but this must have been the worst food I have ever tasted for a long time, we both just could not eat it. May be it was an off night, I don't know, but I don't expect food of such awful quality from any half-decent chef.
