We dined at the Hastings at the weekend in the evening. We haven't been for ages! All the staff have now changed since we were last been in. The meal we had was fantastic as always, however the menu was very limited and expensive compared to what it used to be and we were very disappointed. It is still the best food in Lytham but the lack of choice means we won't be eating there again I'm afraid.

My wife and I have been here twice and have had a thoroughly great evening both times. We can't afford to go as much as we'd like, but sincerely recommend trying it out! :)

Just had an 18th Birthday party for our son at Hastings and can only say very disappointed and angry at the service. The licensee seems to have taken a law onto themselves on serving drinks with a meal to an under 18, and didn't communicate the ridiculous rule until the day of the party. So despite our son being only a few hours off his birthday the staff insisted in ruining the evening denying drinks and questioning the party including grandparents, uncles etc everytime they ordered a drink to police the three friends at 18 or just under. Hastings has successfully ruined what should have been a very special family meal and think they need to take a long hard look at their behaviour tonight.

I cannot recommend this place too highly. It is by far the best restaurant in Lytham. The prices are fantastic for the quality of food and we have never had a bad meal. More recently I have started to go for lunch too and the Light Bites menu is excellent. The staff are most professional and very accommodating. Love it ...!

Had dinner there on Dec 14 (2010). Christmas fixed menu was OK, though nothing special, BUT, a "table" for 10 of us, was 5 round tables set out in a line, just outside the kitchen doors (so plenty of tooing and froing of staff right behind us all the time) and just in front of the disabled loo. We are a group of friends who wished to talk together over a relaxed meal, this lay out meant half the people were out of earshot of one another; actually, nearly out of sight of one another. AND they claimed we booked for 8pm when we had actually booked for 7:30pm. Staff ignored complaints about the table. Will NOT be going back if this is their attitude.

My girlfriend has been calling this place for 3 weeks trying to book and no one has bothered to pick up the phone. This was supposed to be for my birthday because I really wanted to go but no; couldn't even speak to them to tell them we wanted to give them business!! Well there's about 100 quid you're not getting. Pick up the phone, get an answering machine, divert the calls, DO SOMETHING!

Having just eaten at the Hastings since its Sparling times, i'm at a crossroad. This restaurant is aimed at being the highest quality food in Lytham, with its main competitors being Ego and Henry's. Serving classic food with a menu that suits everyone. The quality of the food was, on the whole good. The pork to start was really nice and well seasoned with a lovely and fruity sauce. Good start. The risotto to start was really nice, nothing too overpowering and lovely and creamy, nice and rich. However, it has battered squid with it. Now i wasn't expecting the squid in batter, didn't really read the menu, so it surprised me a bit. But it was almost just thrown on and didn't really compliment or feel right with the risotto. Squid without the batter would have been nice, maybe not even needed. The batter wasn't too great either, it wasn't light and crispy, the oil maybe wasn't hot enough but it wasn't right with an italian risotto. Main course, the fish is excellent, served nice and simple it is really recommended. Without a doubt, the best fish dish in Lytham, i feel they should celebrate that more in the menu, using the seasonal bests etc. The chicken on a potato and sweetcorn pancake wasn't as good. The 'corn-fed' chicken wasn't yellow as expected and truth be told I couldn't taste the difference to a normal brought up chicken. I really like my chicken, this upset me slightly but the chicken tasted fine, no complaints there, well cook well seasoned. It was served on top of the potato pancake, this made the pancake mushy and too soft, making it almost sickly. Also the pancake was borderline dessert, very sweet. If it was crispier, less sweet and served on the side, would have been fabulous. The vegetables were great and I enjoyed the sauce. However, it came with this onion bhaji I can only guess. It didn't look appealing and was really heavy and 'claggy' much like the battered squid. It didn't seem right to be part of a chicken dish and wasn't needed, maybe an indian sauce with chicken if you want a bit of a twist, not the bhaji or whatever it was. The desserts were absolutely brilliant, the selection of cheeses being locally sourced and strong with taste. The bread and butter pudding being rich yet light, spot on. Fantastic. The design and layout of the restaurant is lovely and is a great place to meet, with a wide range of drinks it tops most other places in Lytham. Overall, it's a restaurant that we would return to. Some excellent dishes and if the right combination is picked, you're in for a real treat of a night. Although, some disappointing dishes that only need a slight adjustment. It has the thought of the restaurant 12, but doesn't nail the dishes like it does. A little more thought and better execution of the dishes could lead it to being the best restaurant by far in Lytham.

We had a great sunday lunch yesterday. The Soup and Roast Pork were excellent. Good Rioja by the glass too. Top place

Can I just say the the Palestinian wine mentioned in one of the reviews is not Palestinian. Chateau Musar is Lebanese- I know because I am Lebanese!

I suggest to try the poussin, the halibut, the pie, the starters are lovely, wish they did tapas style so choosing was easier. the steak has been at times good, at times great.
