There’s a Smorgasbord served – literally – every lunch and dinner at The Salt Bar in Macclesfield, a Scandi-inspired restaurant and bar set on a cobbled street close to the town centre. Their selection of Nordic tapas is a great introduction to the delights of Scandinavian cuisine and perfect for sharing, served on a board with knackerbrod and dressed leaves. The Salt Bar’s traditional Scandinavian meatballs are a must-try too and feature on the menu at lunch and dinner. They even sell them from a stall at Macclesfield’s Treacle Market on the last Sunday of the month (the restaurant opens specially too for lunch or drinks while the market is on). Diners can choose from lunch, early bird, dinner and kids menus and alongside dishes like Wieninleike (Finnish pork schnitzel) and Oven-baked whole mackerel there’s more familiar fare such as The Salt Bar Burger. It’s an intimate and inviting venue with an open kitchen, stripped back wooden floors and Scandi décor. Dogs and their well-behaved owners are welcome at lunch and before 7pm and The Salt Bar can also be hired for private events for between 20 and 36 people.
Macclesfield is host to the now famous Treacle market which takes place on the last Sunday of every month.
We have a stall on the market (located opposite the HSBC bank) selling our fantastic meatballs served in cream sauce with sauteed potatoes, pickled cucumber and cranberry sauce for £6.
The restaurant is open from 11.30am - 3pm for lunch and drinks, just a coffee if you prefer. The menu changes monthly but is always a reflection of our lunch, early bird and regular menu.
