I can honestly say after being a chef all my life that I've just had the nicest steak EVER , thank you x

Had an excellent smoked salmon baguette at The Wheatsheaf. The place has real character and the staff our attentive and friendly. I also didn't realise how interesting and antiquated the village of Croston was. Give it a go.

I went to The Wheatsheaf in Croston on a friday night for dinner with my husband about two weeks ago and was really impressed. ... I had the duck rosti for a starter which was on the specials board. The duck had been marinated in Hoi Sin sauce and melted in the mouth and the potato rosti and side salad were also superb and of a generous size. My husband had a ricotta tart for a starter which was lovely. Both of our main courses, Mixed Grill (in most places generous but of poor quality)and Lamb Rump were of superb quality and were good sized portions and perfectly cooked !!!!. We were also impressed with the complimentary, freshly cooked small loaf and fresh butter that was brought to our table whilst we were waiting for our food. The only improvement I could make is that my lamb rump be served with some kind of sauce or jus with the vegetables. Apart from that the ambiance is rustic chic, relaxed and service excellent !
