I am writing this review not as someone who was given an awful service but as someone who was really disappointed not to be given a fantastic service based on it's reputation and prices. Over the last 12 years of our relationship my wife and I have dined several times at The Yew Tree for special and romantic evenings. A few times we have dined for our wedding anniversary and the previous times received a fantastic, attentive and special service which kept us coming back. At the beginning of August we booked our table well in advance and we were pre-advised by a friendly person taking our reservation that there was also a beer festival going on over the weekend. The week before I called to confirm our Saturday reservation understanding that the timeslot would have been at peak-time. Whilst on the phone I also advised it was our wedding anniversary and enquired if the beer festival activities (ie Live Band etc) were not going to mingle with the usual romantic restaurant area. The lady I spoke to sounded very stern and came across a bit abruptly but nonetheless reassured us that the event would be kept separate from the restaurant. When it came to the evening we decided to visit the beer festival event prior to our meal and it was fantastic! Nice ales and music in the sunshine - it was almost a pity to go inside for our meal but were still really looking forward to it based upon our previous visits. Unfortunately, this is where our evening went downhill starting with the fact that it was obvious that they had lost our reservation even though I telephoned the week before to confirm it. Normally on previous visits we were sat in the restaurant area and considering that I gave them 4 weeks notice of our reservation I was surprised to find that we were being sat at the front of the pub area next to the entrance of the front door where everyone else on the other tables were just enjoying drinks - not ideal and obvious that they had lost our reservation, quickly preparing our table with cuterly and placemats. With it being a happy occation we tried to remain positive and we ordered our meal which were two steaks, a ribeye steak to be cooked blue (which I asked if it was possible) for £17.95, a sirloin steak for my wife to be cooked rare for £18.95 and a bottle of wine for around £20. The rib eye arrived medium-rare which didn't 'massively' upset me and I don't tend to complain at restaurants. My wife's sirloin, however, arrived medium to well with hardly any pink colour in it. We normally are not the kind of couple who complain or send food back - once a long time ago I remember eating a steak almost cold just to keep the atmosphere happy. However, again being it our anniversary and the fact that the steak was almost £20 we wanted to raise the problem quickly but without attention. As there were no staff around us being in the pub area my wife had to leave her table and tell someone at the bar that her steak wasn't right - not great really. They took my wife's steak away and so I shared my steak with my wife whilst she waited for hers and at this point we decided as soon as her steak arrived we would finish up, pay and leave to get back outside to the fantastic beer festival. Nicely enough however, the lady who I immediately recognised as the (stern) one I spoke to over the phone was very helpful and straight away dealt with the problem and offered each of us a free glass of wine for our trouble. My wife accepted this and as I already had a large glass already I declined but the nice lady insisted on getting me something free of charge which I thought was really nice. I think the lady either ran the restaurant or was someone very senior in the building as she was very attentive as this point - plus the rest of the staff were wearing pink polo shirt uniforms. Overall, the staff ran rings around us when there was an issue but simply all we wanted was to arrive to be seated in the restaurant, to feel special in the usual romantic atmosphere and to have fantastic food. If this was the first time we dined at the Yew Tree, was told that it was more of a pub/restaurant and the prices were set at those typical of a pub/restaurant then we would have been quite satisfied but still probably avoided it for a wedding anniversary meal. However, paying almost £60 for two steaks and a bottle of wine, when both steaks were overcooked and for them to mess up our reservation it simply was not the evening we expected and we won't be returning anytime soon. We are both gutted because we used to love it at the Yew Tree. Others will come here and I am sure will have a fantastic experience but we won't be risking it again.

Went to view a menu with a view to returning for lunch today. It seemed a nice place. BUT, the lady that was outside tinkering in a car (the owner?) spoke to us like we were about the rob the place. The way she spoke to my fiance and I was rude and insulting. She put us off ever returning again. We only strolled across to see what time it was opening at and to see if a menu was on display but we were told its shut and no menus were on display, her tone was dreadful, we left in a hurry. Don't think we'll ever go back there again!!!!

Place is great but unfortunately, we had to wash all our clothes after visiting. The problem is that the kitchen is open plan and all cooking smells permeate the restaurant.

We went to the yew tree in January to celebrate my mothers 50th birthday and have to say we will defiantly be back. The staff are extremely helpful and will always go that extra mile to ensure your evening is special. I opted for fillet steak which I asked asked for medium rare and that's exactly how it came. I must say as well, the veg of the day and fluffy hand cut chips complimented it very well. My mother had the fillet of sea bass which see said was to die for, I was surprised because see is usually very fussy with way she eats. We finished our puddings and was directed into a reserved area of the lounge next to the roaring log fire. We really enjoyed our evening and and got a big thank you when will left. We will definitely be back and will recommend to any friend or family member.

Recently enjoyed a fantastic meal at the Yew Tree and also the dulcet tones of a Michael Buble tribute singer. The food and service was so good, I decided to have lunch there as well the day after! It's a must visit if your are in the area.

I recently visited The Yew Tree Inn with some friends. Without exception, we were all disappointed with our experience and unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant. We waited almost an hour after placing our orders before we were invited to a table. When we were served, we had to ask after some minutes for our vegetables and potatoes which appeared to have been forgotten. The quality of cooking and presentation was poor, two of us receiving hard and burned food. The kitchen is open to the restaurant leaving our clothes smelling of greasy cooking odours.

We have been going to the Yew Tree for special occasions for over 36 years and we have never been disappointed. Wedding anniversary coming up and we will be there!

Six of us dined at the Yew Tree last night, on our first ever visit, and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. This attractive old inn is extremely warm and welcoming, with excellent service, a wide ranging menu to suit all tastes, and delicious food at fair prices. Congratulations to the management and chef for sourcing high quality ingredients and preparing and presenting them so beautifully and to the waiting staff for service with a smile. A first class place for a relaxed meal out. We will most definitely be going back.

It is not very often that you can visit a place for the first time and feel so welcome and relaxed. My wife and i are regular diners and have eaten at many different venues. We were recommended to visit the Yew Tree at Heath Charnock by several friends who had been for a recent birthday treat. We arrived and were made to feel wanted and the ambience and atmosphere was excellent. My wife commented on how nice the finishing touches were and how clean the ladies toilets are. The food was as good as i have ever eaten - the starters, main courses and desserts were faultless. Congratulations to everyone at the Yew Tree -we shall be back very soon.

Great atmosphere, real fire and tea light candles dotted about the place. Friendly, welcoming staff, food absolutely wonderful ! Cannot fault the place at all.
