Last weekend was our fifth stay at The Golden Lion. The evening meal was passably good and we enjoyed the 'Piano atmosphere'. However the organisation of breakfast was a bit shambolic with a limited number of staff run off their feet. We arrived early as we needed a quick getaway. It was 20 minutes before we ordered our hot food and a further 40 minutes before the wrong food arrived. This was quickly rectified but aspects of our selection were still not right. We couldn't wait any longer so we just ate what was brought and cleared off as quickly as we could - already at least half an hour behind schedule. The number of half cleared plates at other tables suggested to us that either other travelers had to leave early or that the standard of the food wasn't as expected. I would recommend some fresh fruit be an option. Our room was very pleasant.

Visited for the first time yesterday and have no idea why I have not been sooner. The service was friendly and the food wonderful. I had the roast beef sandwich with horseradish mayo and rocket with a mug of lovely tomato and red pepper soup. Huge portions with the thickest fluffy bread. I can’t wait to try the beef burger when I come back is it looked very impressive. Thanks for looking after us .

My wife and i enjoyed our meal yesterday very much 5.10 2026 very much as we were celebrating 52 years of marriage. It was also a trip down memory lane, we actually met each other in the golden lion hotel 54 years ago. The staff were great and the food and drinks were exceptional thank you again for a wonderful day

I asked the waiter if the roast beef was melt in your mouth and soft, informed if it’s tough I can’t eat it. Waiter went and asked the chef who assured me it’ll be the best roast beef Iv ever had, I can assure you it was the worst! Tough and could hardly cut it. Both of us sent it back and we got handed a bill for starters and drink. Waiting staff were young and clearly not taught well, educate your staff on the menu, young girl had no idea how to answer my questions, she didn’t even know what soup was on that day.

This past weekend I ate here 3 times. The first was really good. The second time I had a gluten free sandwich and the bread was so dry it was inedible I ended up picking the limited filing out - saving grace was that I’d ordered a side of chips and they were very nice. Then I had dinner with friends ordered the curry gluten free only to be served the chicken breaded which I only noticed after eating some of it. There was no initial offer to comp the meal but it came eventually and by the time a replacement had been served half the party were leaving so I ended up not eating. Very disappointing

I ate at Cronies at the golden lion yesterday evening, the food was good and the service efficient. The piano player was a nice touch too. Overall a pleasant experience and good value for money.

Two of us had lunch during what was a very busy weekend for the hotel and the staff coped admirably. The soup was delicious although quite a small portion. My friend had a GF sandwich and found the bread very dry. Great chips, though, and we appreciated the care they took re everything being GF for my friend, even if the sandwich was a bit disappointing.

Group of 7 for lunch, food very good service good, nice busy atmosphere, enjoyed our afternoon, we will be back.

Our visit on 15th September was the first in some months, there was a distinct sense of a different atmosphere. Our group of 4, had coffee, it transpired that there were no sugar dishes available. After coffee, we moved to the restaurant for lunch, that table was somewhat cramped, when it came to the meal being served the process was quite disjointed, meals for two appeared, after a short wait a third came to the table. The fourth was considerably later ,quite embarrassing. The steak pie contained rather less meat than at previous visits and the potato and vegetables also reduced. There was a different presentation of this dish ,which looked somewhat more fashionable, but having the above consequences. Style before function might describe it. So ,in general ,rather disappointing when compared with earlier visits.

My Aunty and I had a beautiful meal at the Golden Lion for my mother’s birthday. My mother Margaret Connell worked at the Golden Lion in the 1960’s when she was a young lady. It was a lovely afternoon, the hotel restaurant Cronies is beautiful and unspoiled. Thank you to all the wonderful staff who made our visit memorable. Elaine

Comfortable and friendly establishment Table 8 was close to Air Conditioning and slightly cool but otherwise very enjoyable

Not impressed at all Been to the restaurant many times but it was not good at all . Service poor on drinks and food Food delayed then the wrong order . And to crown it all we were overcharged . Sorry won’t be back

Coming from France with 11 friends,we all booked into the hotel for one night and decided to eat at the hotel,I telephoned to book in advance and was told to send them by mail our order, which we did. To our surprise nothing had been taken into account, no table for us! A young waiter suggested setting up a table in a room just off the restaurant so we agreed, and the Chef if there was one found our pre booked menus, very slow to come, we ordered some Chardonnay, 1 bottle was chilled the others weren’t so we had to ask for Ice buckets! The food when it arrived was hardly up to standard, such a disappointment for all of my French friends in Stirling.

Lovely hotel. Very clean room. Excellent food. Great staff, but the highlight of the evening was the pianist/singer. He was fabulous!
