Having been to the Three Fishes and The Highwayman, decided to drive out from the Fylde Coat to give the place a try. It's situated on the A.59. just a few miles from Skipton. Arrived about 1pm on a lovely sunny Friday afternoon. There were a lot of diners sitting outside at the rear dining area, but we decided to eat inside. The bar and dining area was tastefully decorated. There are a number of interconnecting dining "rooms" which I thought was very effective. The staff were very efficient and the food was up to the usual high standard expected of Nigel Howarth. The prices were also very reasonable for such quality food in great surroundings. Will definitely be returning.

We were on the Leeds Liverpool canal and stopped in Gargrave for dinner. The party included myself and husband along with our two friends. It was quiet in the restaurant so we all decided to have the fish pie. It was absolutely delicious and we all thought the quality and value were terrific. One of my tests for any restaurant which has it on the menu is to order the sticky toffee pudding. Most of the time it is a disappointment but not here. Probably the Best Sticky Toffee Pudding Ever! Fantastic food and not to be missed.

Straightforward, honest fish and chip restaurant with some additional specials. Fish always cooked beautifully with light tasty batter. You can have grilled fish and new potatoes if avoiding fried food. The service is unfailingly friendly and efficient. Wine and beer is available, but nothing can be better with fish and chips than a lovely pot of tea and some slices of mixed bread and butter. Been many times and never disappointed.

We were greeted and seated first class. Ordered a meal and startyer each (5 of us) As table was laid we were told it may take a while to serve food. 17 year old son was hungry so we ordered bread. Starters came, but the bread did not, so cancelled the bread. When main courses ordered, two ordered Lamb. Asked how they would like it, one said medium rare, and the other well done. When it came we were asked who ordered Lamb, both were the same. One of us ordered the fish Platter. It seemed okay until trying the scampi. The taste was horrible, the smell was worse. It was removed and followed by an apology it was off and should not have been served. In the mean time I ordered more drinks, these never appeared and I had to ask where they were, apology given and the drinks came. The potatoes that came with the Lamb were not cooked, and were left on the plate, again another apology(told they had been cooked for 4 hours!) Sweets were ordered. Pancakes with Lemon and Cane sugar. They came with a slice of Lemon and no sugar. Asked where was the sugar, the waitress made a grunting sound and walked off only to come back with a pot of white sugar, put on the table and walked off.(pancakes were sent back) A milkshake that was ordered never appeared, I asked where it was, again an apology was given and the milkshake appeared. I would seriously think twice before going back to this restaurant to spend another £65.00, or recommend it too a friend.

What is the chef trying to achieve here. Whilst he is undoubtedly a skillful operator, the combinations of flavours and textures he applies to his dishes are well below par for a Michelin star chef. This guy is trying too hard and failing. Yes at first hit his flavours are OK, but when you get into your third or four mouthfuls, it starts to go all wrong. Too many things are going off to the point that you don’t get to taste the main ingredient. Your palette becomes confused. Mine said to me - what’s this baby food… come on lets go somewhere else. I had to agree with it. The Burlington is not cheap so you expect better. £80.00 - 90.00 per head is easily achieved with wine. Don’t get me wrong, service, setting etc is good, and most will not be disappointed. It all depends on what experiences you have had in the past. In my opinion you can enjoy a better dining experience elsewhere in this part of the world.

After reading that Nigel Howarth had finally made it over to Yorkshire, thought I'd give this place a try. Arriving too late for the lunchtime menu we ordered from their Afternoon Bites selection which mainly consists of sandwiches and starter-style dishes. They seem to take great pride in the quality of their ingredients and the Yorkshire heritage of their suppliers... and justifiably so. Everything was excellent: couldn't fault any individual element of the Ploughman's, the chicken with stuffing and bacon mayonnaise was superb, and the hand-cut chips cooked in dripping were like proper chips should be. We might've expected standards to slip a little during this dead spot in the middle of the afternoon, but far from it. My colleague said it's one of the best lunches he's had in a long time and I'd have to agree with him. There's real skill on display in that kitchen and I'm looking forward to returning to sample their "proper" menus. And a quick mention about the quality of the revamp... it really is a lovely country pub with an excellent courtyard for the summer months, and inside the finish is to a high standard. To my mind, this is one of the best gastropubs in Yorkshire. Let's hope Howarth opens a few more.

Great food, great wines, excellent real ales, lovely staff. Quite a wide choice on the menu and they have daily specials on the "Hymn Sheet". Generous portions too. Lovely friendly atmosphere with real open fires and a nice mix of passers-by and locals. Nice rooms too if you want to stay a night or more.

As a fan of fine dining, I was very impressed with The Burlington. Everything was done to perfection yet with a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere. The lunch menu is excellent value for money and the food a delight to eat, with really clever dishes on the menu. I will definitely be paying another visit soon.

I would not recommend the Tempest Arms at Elslack. I visited there with my mother at lunchtime one Friday and both ordered a prawn open sandwich at around £6 each. The description on the menu was "lashings of prawns". When it arrived, there certainly weren't lashings of prawns. It consisted of 2 pieces of brown break and butter with a small handful of prawns, iceberg lettuce and marie rose sauce. We also ordered a bowl of chips at £2.50. We were served a half full small dish of pale soggy chips. We sent them back and asked for a fresh "proper" sized portion. The bill came to around £17 for 2 prawn sandwiches, a glass of wine, soft drink and a small bowl of chips. Certainly not value for money, in fact, I felt that I had been ripped off. The service was average and we kept being asked by different waitresses if the food was alright. This pub is supposed to have a good reputation, but I have been told by a number of people that the food is hit or miss. The menu prices are expensive and I wouldn't eat there again.

Been recently after great meals in the past, and am afraid was v dissatisfied: lunch of fish (tiny tail ends), a dessert spoon -sized portion of spinach and 'new potatoes' - which were obviously reheated, fried and served up. Please do not cut corners, serve these unsatisfying smaller portions, or advertise wrongly in the menu. What has happened to the delicious 'flavoured' butter at the start of the meal? Standards seem to be slipping and it is tempting to pass the word around!

Fantastic food and a wine list that many London restaurants could only dream of. The main restaurant is charming, both relaxed and glamorous, with impeccable service. The breakfast experience is worth the price of the room! The brasserie is a much more casual dining experience and has a slightly chaotic atmosphere and is less comfortable with it's ultra modern decor, great if you are with a group of friends but the romance is in the main restaurant.

This place is awful. Do not go. Do not be fooled by its idyllic location. The restaurant is dirty and the food is really bad. Service is by spotty untrained staff and the toilets don't seem to ever get cleaned.
