It was our wedding anniversary and so we went for afternoon tea at the Devonshire Arms. It was a little more expensive then other venues at £20 per person but we had heard good things about the restaurant and the location is beautiful. The tea was good and the scone was very nice but we were disappointed with the sandwiches and some of the cakes. The sandwiches were cold and the bread was hard, as if they had just been taken out of the fridge (rather then being prepared fresh). One cake had far too much pastry (about an inch deep), and there was a little jelly and cream desert in a small glass where the liquid and solid had separated. When I told the waitress that I had a peanut allergy she told me how difficult I had been and that I should have told them in advance. We would not recommend the afternoon tea and we would probably now think twice about returning for dinner.
