table booked for 13 people to celebrate a double birthday celebration. table was booked for 8.30 arrived at 8.20pm to find the table being utilised. we were advised by the manager that it would be a 10 - 15 minute wait. i pointed out that it would be longer than that as the people had only just started their main meals. because there was a large group of us and there was nowhere to wait other than outside i said we would go and have a quick drink somewhere. the manager said he would call my mobile within 10 - 15 mins. Half an hour later i called him he said again 10 - 15 minute wait. we decided to go down there. We eventually got on the table roughly 9:40 poppadoms were just put on the table without being asked did we want them or advised that there was a charge for them. my main meal arrived at 10:20. we had a birthday cake to cut and asked the waiters if they could cut it and bring it out we were just given napkins when we asked for plates we were told the kitchen was closed. (like it was our fault)!!!!!!. we were not offered the desert menu neither were we offered coffee (i suppose because of the time). I pointed this out to the manager on our way out of the restaurant , he then said can i get you a coffee (should that not have happened when we were seated) and not offered on the back of me pointing this out. To many restaurants in solihull are taking custom for granted Let me point out EVERY RESTARAUNT HAS ITS DAY AND WORD GETS AROUND. Stop being so complacent. Very disappointed. but will say the meal was lovely compliments to the chef and BOOOHHHHHH to the manager very poor management.

Visited this restaurant recently. Although the service was excellent the food can only be described as average. Our night was spoiled by having to ask the waitress to tell a small child - presumably the owner's - to stop running around and making a noise.

I booked a table at 7.45 on 12/11/11. A table for 4 for a birthday celebration for people who don't live in Birmingham. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. The restaurant was busy. At 8.15 I eventually caught the eye of the waiter and ordered some drinks, (wasn't actually serving customers just floating around the place), he was very brusque and didn't listen to our order and we had to repeat is several times. At 8.35 no one had taken our order although people had arrived after us and had received theirs. We decided to leave, as we got up the waiter came over and laughed loudly in our faces!!! I approached the bar area, where 2 waitresses were enjoying a drink and a chat and offered to pay for the drinks we had had, they seemed unsurprised that we were leaving, the manager came over, he gave us free drinks but didn't offer apologies or to change the situation. We were upset and embarrassed by the rudeness of the staff. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone and certainly wont be back for more humiliation.

I would not recommend this pub to anyone! I booked this for a family function. What a let down............ Before I even turned up at the pub I was informed by one of my relative had been told that they had run out of beer! When I got there they had managed to borrow a barrel. Only 4 hours into my function they had run out of beer again. I was very angry as they did even have a lot of bottled beer.... In fact there fridges were totally empty. What a joke! I was told by the bar manager as they were independently owned they order beer on a day to day basis so which means they didn't take a lot of money the day before my function so they couldn't order any beer..... Can't believe that pubs actually run like this. - Only then did I realise that the buffet which I had paid a lot of money didn't even look like they had spent £50.00. Staff VERY rude, couldn't even apologise. Would not step foot back in this building. If you ask me it needs a whole new management team............ people that actually care.

I went with a group of friends last week and was impressed with the venue, the service, the food and the value for money at £9.95 for 3 courses. Even better, you take your own alcohol. Try it out! I'll be going again soon.

We have visited Jolokia on about 5 occasions now and have been delighted with everything about it. The food is excellent, the service is second to none, the staff are friendly and helpful and I like it better than any other Indian restaurant in Solihull.

The is a must visit venue, the food is absolutely divine, I only ordered the house burger & fries, and I can honestly say it was the best burger I have had in the last 5years. Fantastic. The restaurant itself is stunning, they seem to have thought long & hard about the design, which is based around lots of wooden features. Low beams, log fires etc all in all a wonderful experience, I now look forward to visiting in the summer, so I can enjoy the terrace outside.

The food was excellent, good choice on the menu and well cooked so compliments to the chef. However, the restaurant is let down by the waitress who is not welcoming or friendly and the bland boring decor. I would recommend that if you are booking for a Christmas meal you check beforehand to make sure it is on offer because we were told on 1st December that they had not started the set menu even though on their Christmas leaflet it states that the Christmas menu is available from Tuesday 30th November. We were not offered a 3 course meal off the ordinary menu for the price of £24.95 as an alternative even though our booking was made weeks ago,

Had a really nice lunch in here after going shopping. Staff were really attentive and friendly and the food was lovely (at a good price too). Then tried it on a Friday night and the place had a great atmosphere and buzz to it.

The food was excellent aswell as the atmosphere until a middle aged waiter had spoilt my girlfriends night by constantly eyeing her up and kept trying to flirt but unfortunately for him, he was very poor at speaking English other than that it was all very good.

I came to your restaurant on Monday 9th August 2010 on Hobs Moat Road. I came with my boyfriend and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for a first class service. The food was lovely, the decor and set out of the restaurant was lovely and the staff were very accommodating. As we were leaving the rain began to pour and at this time a lovely gentleman who I think was the manager at this time, offered us a drink to keep us out of the rain until it stopped, this was a lovely gesture, I was very happy and felt very welcome the staff were lovely. First Class service and restaurant. Thanks for a lovely evening We will definitely be coming back Kind Regards Miss jeena shaw

Well sorry to say been to this restaurant with my work mates. But the food was so greasy and couple of us had the runs the following day. It's was very expensive but that we don't mind. If only the food was good. Plus we had problems with waiter . It was a bit like Manuel from faulty towers ! Will try next door next week !

Visited Longfellows last night for an anniversary meal and was delighted with the experience. Welcome was friendly, service prompt and attentive. Food was flavoursome well presented and good sized portions. Price was slightly more than your average out of town restaurant but then quality and fresh cooked meals are. Will definitely go again.

My family organised a surprise dinner for my birthday at The Malt Shovel. I had a fantastic time and really felt spoiled for a night. Not many restaurants do pay as much attention to you as they did there. The waitress was lovely and she even surprised me with a delicious cake full of candles and lots of smiles. We were booked in the restaurant area, relaxing atmosphere and beautiful set up but I wanted something a bit more lively so the manageress was kind enough to arrange a table for us in the bar area. Even though it was pretty busy we were served in time and we enjoyed the night near a warm fire place making us forget the freezing cold snow outside. We were given 2 menus and explained all the queries we had, they specialise in fish on the specials menu. I had Jamaican spiced chicken with lettuce and sugared mango as a starter and braised lamb shank with infused carrots and jus for my main. It really made my evening. The night finished with a couple of drinks at the bar and some fun time in the garden building up a snow man. I had a great surprise birthday party beside my family but celebrating it at the Malt Shovel at Barston was the icing on the cake. I would highly recommend the pub but defiantly book in advance.
