Excellent food & service was great
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingBooked last minute after spending the day at Stirling Castle and The Wallace Monument and in dire need of sustenance. The Cronies restaurant was a very pleasant surprise; traditional and elegant, without being formal or overbearing. The staff were helpful, friendly and attentive and we were made to feel at ease from the get go. Menu wise, there was a big enough selection for almost any taste without being bewildering. Both our meals were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious - so much so that we opted to share a pudding (even though we were both full and don't normally do desert!) A must visit if you are in Stirling.
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingThis is a comfortable place to eat, and our guest from abroad liked it. The afternoon tea wasn't quite as good as when I've been in before, however. Despite having booked a table and filled in the special request box, no one seemed to know about it. Not even that we'd booked for tea, rather than lunch (judging by how they tried to take our order). The scones were gorgeous, as before. Shame that there was so little cream that we had to ask for more. The cakes were also lovely as expected. The sandwiches were a disappointment, a little dry and only cheese and ham, and not enough cheese for the non-meat eaters (two out of three). I suspect the lack of choice was bad luck, but the number of sandwiches more likely to have been because they thought there were only two of us... Since we'd booked for three, and three of us turned up, it was surprising to find only two teacups, teapot for two, and so on. Also had to ask for more tea after a while, which was actually hot, unlike the first tea. It was still an enjoyable afternoon, despite having to look out for serving staff to ask for more while also keeping a conversation going.
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingAnother lovely high tea at Golden Lion hotel - food piping hot and tasty - generous portions and staff always helpful and pleasant- definitely recommend Cronnies bar for a super dinner and drink - live singer too made our night - I’ll be back
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingExcellent food and service. Beautiful surroundings. Nice and relaxed.
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingWe had our meal but unfortunately the vegetables were too hard and after one bite of them they got stuck in my throat and I could not breath correctly and had to run to the toilet to be sick and try to bring them back up which was very uncomfortable and could not eat any more of my meal .the meal was for our anniversary so it did not turn out to be a good day for me .
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingWe had our meal in your restaurant but unfortunately it was not a good experience. When I received my meal it looked lovely but unfortunately the vegetables were too hard and when I took my first bite they got stuck in my throat and I could not breathe I had to go to the toilet and was sick and tried to bring them back up it was very uncomfortable and I then couldn’t eat the rest of my meal so it was not a good time for me and it spoiled my anniversary day
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingNow this is a wee gem this restaurant. Cronie’s bar & restaurant combines quality and value and delivers a beautiful meal. Had haggis bonbons for starters, succulent roast beef, Yorkshire pud, roasties and veg for mains and a delightful cheesecake for dessert. Have stayed at the hotel before too and wouldn’t hesitate to book in at the Golden Lion in Stirling whenever I pass through. Excellent friendly staff help make the meal or stay extra special.
The Golden Lion Hotel – Stirlingthis place is abousloutely brilliant everbody go here
Red Lion Hotel – StirlingFast friendly service, good basic food and prices not too expensive. Would recommend this restaurant for lunch.
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingMy niece and I came here for afternoon tea after it came highly recommended and we weren’t let down. I can’t fault it and I will certainly be back. We decided on the high tea, so glad we did as the Mac n cheese was delicious. Scones and cakes were great too. Service was 1st class from start to finish. Staff are all lovely and very attentive
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingHad a business lunch with a colleague on Tuesday, the restaurant was really nice and the staff efficient and friendly, however the food was disappointing. My starter of tasteless breaded prawns was obviously a deep frozen dish apart from the small salad served with it. My colleague enjoyed the haggis starter and thought his chicken main course was below standard pub fare ! My steak pie was tasty but the portion was small and once again we find deep frozen chips that had not been fried for long enough !
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingGreat food and service as usual We phoned our order in and was brought to our table within minutes to us sitting which is great as only have 1 hour for lunch Looking forward to next pay to visit again
The Golden Lion Hotel – StirlingLovely place and very pleasant staff but the Afternoon Tea was disappointing. I had asked for no egg sandwiches and first thing I saw on the plate was an egg sandwich. The other sandwiches were tasteless. However, the scones and cakes were delicious.
