I wouldn't say it's the best restaurant in Somerset by any means. But it's in a pleasant position, with a door to the Cathedral Green and the menus are creative and good

The Old Spot – WellsMagic and quirky restaurant; ordinary pub-like exterior but surprisingly light interior, with strange and interesting artworks on the walls. Chef Ashley Rainbow has a wonderful talent and his dishes are a delicious combination of tastes and textures, using local ingredients wherever possible. There are five havetobeseentobebelieved bedrooms; one of the bathroom doors is made out of a single slab of wood, including the handle). Lovely, friendly staff.
Wookey Hole Inn The – WellsGood reviews of The Old Spot in Wells led me to book a table for six to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday. On arrival we were presented with an almost empty restaurant, lacking in atmosphere; a situation which remained largely unaltered throughout the evening. The licensee was, sadly, somewhat ill-informed about the licensing laws relating to youngsters, despite one of my guests identifying himself as a policeman with expert knowledge of the subject. Not the end of the world in this particular case, but not a perfect start to the meal. The menu was sensibly limited although with a good range of choices. Too large a variety can often lead to lack of quality I believe. The food was good, served beautifully and reasonably quickly, but overall it lacked the sparkle that previous reviews hinted at. Moreover, the relatively high prices were not reflected in the quality of the meal which, whilst good, was certainly not outstanding. The fire alarm went off twice during the course of our meal along with two large crashes in the bar for which no explanation or guidance, worryingly in the case of the fire alarms, was forthcoming! In order to spare my daughter any embarrassment on this special occasion we left before coffee and port without making any comments to the staff. Overall I feel that The Old Spot has an enviably wide range of wines on offer and a good, albeit unexceptional menu, but is let down by lack of atmosphere and relatively high prices. Could do better!
The Old Spot – WellsCreative cooking of a brilliant standard-the best in the SW since Blunos in his prime!
The Old Spot – WellsWe visited the camelot yesterday for a meal, the menu had been changed and much improved since we last visited. My husband had fish chips and mushy peas ( always a good choice).Whilst i opted for steak and scampi (which consisted of a 5oz very tender steak and approx 6 pieces of scampi. My sons had sausage filled yorkshire pudding (of a very ample size) and my daughter had cheeseburger chips and beans the meal cost £20.75 very reasonable. And the childrens play area is brilliant for the kids to run off some steam
Camelot Inn – WellsWe recently visited the panborough last sat early evening; the restaurant was fairly busy seeing as it was early. Our order was taken promptly and food arrived equally as promptly we had garlic mushrooms and deep fried brie both were lovely. For the main i had a favourite of mine steak and ale pie which was the best ive had, the meat was so tender and the gravy mouth-watering and my husband had a really tender steak (all meat comes from local butchers) we will definitely be returning
Panborough Inn The – WellsVisit and enjoy, the new owner is a fantastic person and very likable, he will go out of his way to please you. Enjoyed my time there very very much.
Kings Head The – WellsWe visited the Burcott Inn on 12 July 07 following a recommendation from my parents. The food was very good - very tasty rump steak. Staff were very friendly and made our visit very pleasant. Prices were good for the standard of food - we would be happy to return.
Burcott Inn – WellsLovely unpretentious relaxed dining rooms and delicious homely food. Can highly recommend it.
Good Earth The – WellsI recently took my mother and her friend to eat at the Sherston on Mothers Day, the restaurant has been refurbished and the new owners have hired an OUTSTANDING chef. I particularly recommend the Oven Roasted Flat mushrooms, stuffed with stilton and wrapped in Parma ham on salad (it was a special starter), only 4.50 -bargain!
Sherston Inn – WellsWhat a fantastic little restaurant!!! Everything about it was truly wonderful. The food, the staff the location, just opposite the wonderful Cathedral of Wells. Brilliant. Keep up the good work
Rugantino – WellsAs Im in the trade eating out can be an ordeal Mike, Jackie and the girls make you feel welcome, you are not waiting forever for the food.
Ploughboy The – WellsThe family four returned to the Sheppey, for quick bite and, to see how things were going, True to there word the owners were busy gutting the interior and, making things anew, if it? as good as the outside arrangement, were going to be well pleased, the place was obviously closed for midweek dining. But we shall be true to our word, and return to see the finished article, in a few weeks time, can? wait best of luck.
Sheppey Inn The – WellsThe family four has finally landed at the Inn. A beautiful new decking arrangement was being produced outside. This is going to prove popular during the hot periods. However we went to eat the service was provided by a fluent speaking German girl, whose teutonic efficiency, was spot on. The drinks were delivered, and inviting, the food was excellent in my opinion, we had chicken curry, bean curry and lasagne. All served up with no effort, and plentiful, considering we only had the light portions. We followed with the ice cream desserts. The food was well presented and well cooked, tasty and delicious, we shall definitely be going back to try other dishes. Other dishes we saw were all of the same high standard. If i had to make fault i could only say that, for invalids the 2 small flights in the entrance need watching, this apart go there and experience this wonderful delight.
Panborough Inn The – WellsThe present owners of The George have developed the facilities over the past 3 or 4 years. It's still very village pubby when you walk in with 3 or 4 cask ales as well as farm cider and a small but very good selection of moderately priced wines. There is a good selection of very good food to eat in the bar or restaurant where there is usually an exhibition of paintings or photographs by local artists, which are also for sale. Much of the food, especially the meat and fish, is locally sourced and is cooked and presented with flair at reasonable prices. Monthly (last Thursdays) curry evenings are popular and the choice good (buffet style) and presented wine testing? regularly organised. Very friendly, excellent food and drink and well worth a visit.
The George Inn – WellsFAULTLESS, FRIENDLY SERVICE, ALONG WITH GREAT FOOD. PRICE TRULY UNDER VALUED. 5*
Good Earth The – Wellsa friendly warm place to have a meal or a quick cup of coffee :)
Good Earth The – WellsOur family foursome, i.e. mum/dad/sis/myself. Finally went to this inn, after various attempts/recommendations. Very oldy worldy inn unpretentious, no frills but, it did live up to what we had been told, a bowl of this, a bowl of that £3.20 with a nagging of fresh bread. About 35 people came and went while we were there. All had at least 2 drinks and a bowl of food. A good sign in my eyes and all gave complimentary remarks. Excellent to think this inn, is time warped backwards some 70/80 years. We?l be back.
