I have been a loyal customer at Cinnamon ever since it opened. Having tried most Indian restaurants in the area, I am in no doubt that this is the best. What is amazing (especially when compared with other good restaurants) is the absolute consistency of taste of the dishes. If you enjoy a dish once, you can guarantee that you'll enjoy it every time because it will always be exactly the same, same heat, same flavour, same taste. We've tried virtually everything on the menu over the years, and, while not everything is what I would choose (maybe too mild, or too sweet) they are without exception of excellent quality. From time to time we try somewhere else (in case we are missing something) but we've never found anywhere better. As other reviewers have mentioned, the welcome is very friendly from Khan and Abdul, the joint owners.

Do not be fooled by the first impressions from a tired outside; we found the service, atmosphere & food to be first class. Good honest grub [I tasted everything we ordered] & reasonable prices for both food & wine [I also paid for everything too!]. Considering the size of the [relatively tiny] kitchen, I saw them turnout an impressive range of cuisine, all delivered to the diners with military precision by Ian & his team.

I went here following the recommendation from a friend and I was expecting to be disappointed given his over-the-top ravings. Well, I wasn't. The food is probably the best I've tasted in the area - and I must have been to every restaurant for 25 miles around! The restaurant is upstairs from the pub and is nicely decorated with friendly (if young) staff. Get in before 7 and there is an early bird menu (basically allowing you to pick 3 courses from the a la carte for £16.95). Each course was absolutely superb and speedily brought to our table. I had scallops for starters (served on black pudding and minted pea) followed by pork in bacon, with appropriate trimmings, polished off with cheescake and ice cream. My Mrs had red mullet to begin, followed by brie stuffed Goosnargh chicken and sticky toffee pudding. My mouth is watering again! Total price including a beer and a large glass of white was under £40 on a Saturday night! I can't praise it enough. Nothing pretentious, no airs and graces, just a nice room with lovely food. We finished off with a pint in the pub. Nice enough but lacking a 'homely feel' (and the colour choice for the walls was a little suspect ...). That said, don't go for the pub - go for the restaurant. You'll be raving about it too!

Been here twice. First time we waited 50 minutes for our meal only to send the T-bone steak back as it was inedible. Second time we ordered sea bass (menu said 2 fillets) and only one arrived; there were no strawberries as advertised with the cheesecake; and the banoffee pie looked more like eton mess. Also no spoons left - could we use a fork? Never again will we set foot in the place!

I went to the owls restaurant last night with my girlfriend, and my 10 year old daughter, i would not take my dog there. i have been to 2 for 1 places with ten times the class. and i however hate 2 for 1 places. the food was rubbish, badly run, the chips where like school chips, mass produced rubbish. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

We keep coming back to this restaurant...the food is always delicious. The thing is - the food quality and taste is totally consistent, something which I've never come across in other Indian restaurants. The staff are brilliant - friendly and polite, and the boss, Mr Khan, has a very welcoming style about him. Our favorite dishes are Chicken Tikka Balti Madras, Machli Bhuna (fish), and Macfli Roshuna ( fish). But don't take my word for it - give it a try!

This restaurant has been recommended to me several times but I only visited it for the first time two weeks ago. I have just had my third visit and it is highly recommended. It is spotless clean, classy with good old fashioned service. The various meal offers are fantastic value and yet you feel that you have dined out. I have sampled the £6.50 lunch menu twice; melon, thick, succulent chicken breast with all the trimmings and for an extra £2 a choice of sweets; I have sampled the Lemon Meringue Pie and the Blackcurrant Cheesecake. The Sunday evening menu was great value too.I would have no hesitation recommending this venue and I would bring friends with confidence. In fact, I did bring a friend who dines out a lot for lunch and she thought it was superb. My mum is extremely hard to suit and she would give this venue ten out of ten. It's our new favourite place to eat but don't tell everyone!!!!

No.Not at all.I visited for the first time Friday with my partner after reading the reviews.I was led to believe this is a fine dining restaurant.Well in all my yrs of eating out this was a first for me it definitely is not.Never had french onion soup like onion gravy with some sort of powdered packet stock. A pie which looked like it had been dropped on the floor in a dish my gran would leave her teeth in !! Vinegar bottle filthy .Never Never again too expensive too dirty

Shanghai Palace Restaurant – Wigan
Smiley St. Andish

If you want your food served with a smile, hot and tasty... don't eat here! We don't go out for a meal that often so thought we'd give the Owls a go as it's local. If you want fast food but not the usual burgers then this is your place. Our starters of Garlic Mushrooms were actually tasteless onion soup with a couple of mushrooms. The main of Lasagne tasted of the cheese sauce on top and not much else, the included garlic bread was just tasteless and cold. The Rump Steak however was cooked well and fairly tasty and served with a substantial serving of chips (tasty & hot) and a bit of veg (cold and limp). Deserts of choc fudge cake (an extra £2.50) and meringue with ice cream and fruit coulis were probably the best bits, although the meringue was obviously shop bought and the ice cream was of the cheap variety. The staff couldn't have cared less, with our starters literally thrown at us and the cutlery dumped in the middle of the table. They were then whipped away as we put our forks down, main course was dumped in front of us then they eventually cleared it and once we had our dessert menus we were ignored for 10 minutes. When our desserts were brought out we got our first smile of the night! Overall we wouldn't suggest or recommend it but if you're after something cheap and quick this is your place. We will not be returning.

We went to the Owls on Sunday 9th May for a family birthday, there were 4 kids and 9 adults and it was very disappointing. The restaurant is in a great setting with a terrace and garden at the back (although lack of chairs / benches outside) and the decor / interior is to a high standard. There is lots to choose from on the menu and our orders were taken very quickly. On making the booking we were told that we had to leave the table at 4pm, we sat down at 2pm so had plenty of time to enjoy our dinner - or so we thought. The quality of the food was extremely poor, the starters of breaded mushrooms were cold and the salad brown and limp. The pate was just as bad with a hard edge and lack of taste - looked as if it had been in the fridge for months. Most of us ordered Roast Beef as a main course and this was served only just warm, roast potatoes were out of the freezer and a lack of green vegetables - only carrots and soggy cabbage. There was no service for drinks so one of our group had to queue at the bar for 13 drinks and was offered no help with carrying them over. The service was half hearted and we were asked if we had finished our main courses 3 times whilst still eating! They were clearly in a rush for us to leave. Only the children ordered dessert as we were given no menus and offered only ice cream or profiteroles. Most of us had coffee which was served with 1 UHT plastic cream instead of fresh milk. Overall terrible food and service experience in a place that should have been excellent considering the ambience and settings.
