After taking a long time to find, (going up and down Deansgate), me and my friend found a very unpretentious restaurant: it was El Rincon.

You walk downstairs and find yourself walking into a medium sized room with typical Spanish pictures on the wall i.e. bullfighters and even Maradona himself. I was very unimpressed by the place itself and when the waitress sat us down, I found myself looking in at the kitchen (which was directly opposite to where I was sitting) which didn't seem the cleanest.

Anyway most importantly, the food was lovely. Me and my friend wanted to just order the Paella but the waitress told us it would 30 minutes to cook so we would be better off getting a tapas to pass the time. We opted for the prawns with dips and the chicken done in a paprika sauce- which was gorgeous. We shared our tapas and when the Paella finally came, we didn't even eat half of it. Probably thanks to the £1.50 bread aswell. The bill was £32. Well worth it. The best restaurant I've been to in Manchester, so far.

we are regulars here and recently had two family birthday celebrations here...both times the food was excellent and all cooked fresh to order. We would never entertain going anywhere else for tapas...the last time we went our wine was corked and when brought to the manageress's attention it was change in a instant like all good restaurants should do!! lovely staff and great atmosphere when ever we go. thank you!!!

FANTASTIC - never been to a tapas restaurant before and I'll struggle to go anywhere again for the fear of not finding as good a restaurant. I'll certainly be going there again - well worth the table wait and a brilliant first experience!

I am a regular at El Rincons, and have to say every Saturday lunch is always a pleasure, I am addicted to there Gambus pil pil, and the filleto steak, yum yum, I can also recommend the new potatoes in a wine/oil sauce of the specials menu very tasty, my boyfriend can never decide on them or the patatas bravas, There aioli is soooo divine, ask for it think its only 1.50 and great to dip your bread in, We had the Cumberland sausages of the specials menu the other Saturday very very nice.. I am wanting to try so many different things of the menu, but I end up ordering the same things, We went 2 Saturdays ago for a late lunch about 3ish and it was packed, had to wait 20 mins, so I will be booking next time, getting very popular. if you have not been please go you WONT be disappointed.

Absolutely outstanding, my GF said "I feel like I'm in Spain". Praise indeed. A bit tricky to find but well worth the hunt! A marvellous establishment.

I have wanted to try this place for ages and I was not disappointed. It's not the easiest place to find though. I had a range of tapas and my mum had the creamed chicken main course - both were excellent. I especially liked the Tortilla Espanola which was the best I've had outside Spain. There was a nice atmosphere there too. I would definitely go again.

I've been to quite a few restaurants that say they serve Spanish food, only to find an English owner/chef that likes to holiday on the Costa del sol 2 weeks a year and whose food is a poor copy of Spanish Tapas, El Rincon is the real thing, fantastic food professional staff and reasonable prices. The only other restaurant I'd recommend is casa las tapas, retiro st, Oldham

I go to El Rincon on a regular basis, and have to say that this is the best Spanish Tapas I have tasted outside Spain, does remind me of those wonderful days in Spain last year, there gambas pil pil is the best, do try the chicken in paprika sauce of the specials menu...divine!!!! Make sure you visit you wont be disappointed!!!

We first went to El Rincon for my birthday, it was just the two of us and as they don't take reservations for two we decided to wait at the bar with a drink. There were many people waiting up to an hour and it was worth it!!!! The atmosphere, smell and music really tickles all your senses and its topped off with very friendly service and amazing food. El Rincon is like a hidden gem in the streets behind Deansgate...The little Spain of Manchester!!!!

This was my first visit and i went along with my wife and 12yr old son. We ordered numerous Tapas and when they arrived we were not disappointed. We were all stuffed by the end of our meal. La Tasca eat you heart out.

Well, after trying to find this place for nearly a year, we actually achieved it last night - and it was well worth the wait! Don't be mislead by the address - from Deansgate, go onto St Johns Street then onto the first side street and at the moment is recognisable by the scaffolding!! Food definitely comparable to Spain, typically Spanish in everything it sells and the staff make it even more so! Was like being back in a Tapas bar in Barcelona last year! Spent £33 on 7 dishes and 2 drinks which think is well worth it. Enjoy!

Brilliant place, make an effort to go once a month, food is amazing, lovely ambience and atmosphere, very intimate dining experience, worth the wait for a table!

Very good food and atmosphere. Far better than the false food and feel of La Tasca. and the waitresses were very nice to. What? They were!

The overall balance of this place is spot on, food, ambience and price. Feels like being in real Spain. The house red wine is always good value. The Tapas menu for 10 persons plus is an excellent sampler. Ivan Campo the BWFC Spanish footballer has been seen and if a Spanish team is in town their fans find their way there. Used by the 'locals' when they are abroad!!!

Very good standard of restaurant, excellent cooking and friendly service!. La Tasca watch out. Definitely one of the best Spanish restaurants in town for consistency, and I've eaten regularly at most of them. Give it a go. A real treat and great atmosphere,,,,, great food.

Been going to El Rincon now for a good few years, I highly recommend the tapas, (love the mussels) have yet to sample the calamari, every time I order it's not on the menu. Great atmosphere and friendly staff and the owner used to play for Stockport County!

It's difficult to try to recreate something authentic anywhere, which is why, so many people fail when trying. Rafa doesn't need to try; you could be in any tapas bar in Spain. Relaxed, unpretentious, wonderful. Very few places don't need to advertise .El Rincon doesn't need too. Quality speaks for itself. You would need a map to find it, which makes it quality, even more obvious. Food review? No need thank you Rafa

El Rincon is an excellent place to eat, it has a very Spanish feel and great atmosphere!! I love it!!

Recommended by Anonymous By Request (22nd March 2004)

I have eaten at El Rincon on a number of occasions though i admit that it is not my favourite Spanish eaterie. The ambience is authentic and the service is fine but alas the ping of the microwave is all too frequent, often supported by the arrival of molten dishes. Not really what i expect in a restaurant these days.Maybe its just my perception?

The address is a bit misleading being at the back of the buildings at the corner of Deansgate and Quay Street, but well worth finding his little gem. Very handy for the The Opera House, The Triangle, and Castlefield on nights out in the city centre, and we often make an 8 mile round trip just for a special lunch time meet-up. An informal atmosphere and cordial welcome awaits you, and questions on the dishes are welcomed with friendly, enthusiastic advice. The food is fantastic - try a few tapas followed by Paella and the odd glass of red wine.

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend who, unfortunately, didn't give us directions!!!. It takes a bit finding, nestled behind the Direct Line building on a back street but well worth searching out. Excellent tapas, notably the chorizo, albondigas & patatas bravas, washed down with a draught Cruzcampo, made the whole thing more Spanish than some cafe bars in Spain! To be honest it took all my self control to prevent me saying "gracias" at every opportunity & asking for La Cuenta. It was all finished off with an excellent, strong cafe solo. We will be returning

Excellent. Went there for my birthday with 20 friends, the food was superb, service excellent and very inexpensive.

THE best tapas in Mcr. In fact better than most I've sampled in Barcelona! Never had a bad food experience here, although the service/decor is rather casual and you have to fight the odd fruit fly off your Rioja. Good buzz about the place, always busy, which says alot about it's broad appeal. The owner is always around mingling as well, which makes a difference to any place I think. Check it out, you will enjoy!

Authentic , unlike other so called tapas bars ,food is sometimes excellent, unlike the service which can be shall we say inconsistent, but when its good its very good!

A lovely rustic spanish atmosphere.Great service & good food.Refreshing to hear spanish spoken whilst tucking into paella in Manchester.

Recommended by Anonymous By Request (16th August 2002)

A very spacey restaurant tucked in a back alley off Deansgate.

The food offers nice little Tapas' but as with a lot of Tapas, the wallet gets hurt before the stomach gets satisfied.

Recommended by Anonymous By Request (17th April 2002)

Great atmosphere coupled with a wide selection of Spanish tapas. A great night out, but book before you go as the place gets busy.
