We went here to celebrate my birthday and were very disappointed with what we found.
Stale dry bread was followed by luke warm soup (undistinguishable as smoked haddock), followed by a tough, cold steak with soggy chips and an underripe tomato salad. My companion had disappointing salmon followed by another tough cold steak with French beans (why not local runner beans when the menu states seasonal beans??!!). The cheese board included a bland cheddar, a bland underripe brie and a disappointingly dry stilton. All three were unnecessarily served with butter. The coffee was served before the cheese with Terry's Twilight chocolates. The final insult.
Overall a well below average eating experience at a well above average cost (£80 for 2 - hardly affordable!). Having eaten in many establishments in Birmingham, there are many far better in this price range.
On a Saturday night when any good restaurant should be packed, we saw only 5 small tables in use between 7 and 9.45pm. This surely is a testament to the quality and popularity of the restaurant.
