Nestled below Pendle Hill and surrounded by beautiful countryside, The Fence Gate dates back to the 17th century. Over the years it was home to local squires and a prominent cotton merchant until in 1982 the current owners converted it into an inn. Today with its public bar, modern brasserie and function suites, The Fence Gate is firmly established as one of the area’s leading multi-purpose hospitality destinations, catering for everything from a quiet pint or romantic meal to weddings and charity balls. The Topiary Brasserie can accommodate 100-plus diners in fine style with crisp white linen tables and some high-backed leather booths and offers diners a comprehensive wine list to complement the accomplished cooking. Both the brasserie and the bar are open seven days a week for lunch and dinner with a range of menus to choose from. The traditional bar has a welcoming log fire in winter and comfy sofas and is a great place to relax with a glass of wine or a pint of Cask Marque- accredited real ale. The main function suite – the Cromdale Room – has its own dancefloor and can seat up to 240 whilst for smaller events there is a choice of the Patio Suite (80-100) and the Boardroom (12). Regular tribute nights are held throughout the year and all kinds of function can be catered for including weddings and conferences. The Eagle at Barrow is a sister pub.

Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone! Graham Monk Went to the restaurant after recommendation from a friend, food was excellent, extensive wine list, service was excellent and was busy with a good atmosphere for a Tuesday evening. Would recommend to anyone and will certainly be visiting again! Menu has just been changed (July 09) and prices lowered slightly... more than worth the drive out...... Cbrierley After booking a table on a sunday evening, and arriving a little bit early for drinks. we found they had no knowledge of our reservation. Service from the floor staff seemed a little rushed, dirty linen on the table was slightly off putting, However. we ordered and found that the food was absolutely great. Beautifully presented, wonderful flavours and perfect wine. All in all, a lovely meal. After been over charged!! front of house could maybe do with a refresher course on customer service. But kitchen was bob on!! Parker I went to the Restaurant in a party of nine on Sunday 28th October. We arrived late not our fault but never the less there was no problem with the booking. We had a lovely meal in very pleasant surroundings and nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Would recommend Fence Gate Inn to anybody Well Done. Wendy The Topiary Restaurant is the best in the area, fresh local produce is used to make the meals which are cooked to perfection. There is plenty to choose from ranging from the owners own recipe sausages through to the more exotic choices for the adventurous diners. The prices are a little higher than in other restaurants around here but to be honest you do get what you pay for and here you get the best!! We can't wait to go again and again. DAGs
