Located on Frenchgate, one of Richmond's most picturesque cobbled streets, this former gentleman's residence dates back to the mid-eighteenth century. Completely remodelled and refurbished, it's now a boutique hotel with eight rooms and an AA-rosetted restaurant. Healds Hall was built in 1764 and is closely associated with Charlotte Bronte, who based a character in her novel 'Shirley' on former resident Rev. Hammond Robertson. The current owners took over in 1979 and have developed the property into an award-winning family-run hotel and restaurant. It's set in peaceful grounds and has 24 ensuite rooms, all furnished to a high standard and some dating back to the 18th century. There are two restaurants and a private function room which have been recently refurbished. The AA-rosetted Harringtons restaurant offers classic and contemporary dishes in a fine dining environment while the stylish bistro is decked out with contemporary artwork and is more informal. The menu is the same in both though, based on locally sourced produce and including vegetables grown in the grounds. There is also an extensive wine list, personally selected by the GM who is a passionate oenophile. The Traddock is steeped in history, originally built in the 1740s as a family home, the Georgian building was extended in the Victorian era and had endured several changes of use until recently becoming the hotel and restaurant of today. Passionatley run by the Reynolds family, the name derives from the trading paddock that was once on the grounds and was nick-named 'The Traddock' by local farmers. The hotel has 12 individually styled, en-suite rooms that retain their original features and character. The award winning restaurant is an integral part of the hotel's ethos of best practise and sustainability, which extends to the policy of local sourcing and mimimal carbon footprint. They use organic and bio-dynamic produce where possible. The kitchen team of four is headed by Chef John Pratt whose passion has led him to partner many local artisan producers to create dishes inspired by traditional English slow cooking. Dinner is served daily from 6.30-9pm and offers starters such as Smoked Haddock and Spinach Pikelets, Soft Poached Egg and mains of Pan Roasted Rack of Mansergh Hall Lamb, Rosemary Polenta Cake, Honey Roasted Parsnips, Rosemary and Redcurrant Jus. or slow food such as Confit Shin of Mansergh Hall Beef-Shallot Tatin, Turnip and Horseradish Puree, Dauphinoise and Red Wine Jus. The impressive 80 bin wine list includes 35 organics and they hold regular wine tasting dinners.
