Discovered by accident last Friday afternoon by hubby who saw folks drinking and thought he'd drop in for a pint. Wrong! This revamped and redecorated bar and restaurant was having a friends and family affair after the end of their renovations. However, they gave him a glass of wine and schmoozed him. He promised we'd try it out. Chef David Cambridge has been a personal chef for the Rothschilds and worked at The Lime Bar, Salford Quays (the only internet reference I can find is on a Swinton High School newsletter). Opening to the public was last night, so off we went. Serrano Ham and Figs with a large green salad-- very yummy. 1/2 dozen Oysters (only £6-95), well shucked and according to G, perfect. Skate with capers--perfectly cooked fish Duck Breast - nice and pink with a shalott tartlet and...for the hell of it, a portion of home made chips -- these were delicious, crispy and nice and dark brown -- a friend's mum would've loved them. We had tap water and a bottle of Duckbill Reisling £19-50. Food was £42-35. Total £64-65 plus tip for two. Nice open space, double height bar with formal restaurant up a spiral staircase. Cream walls (contasted dark patterned paper in formal restaurant), dark flooring, dark furniture White dining cloths and napkins. Heavy duty, industrial stemware. Failed the napkin test Service was slow but not irritatingly so. We only had to walk home. Staff were very pleasant and David asked hubby what he'd thought. nice touch. There is a bar menu for the main (ns) and the small smoking bar downstairs. Looks mainly like entries from the Starters on the Restaurant Menu. A few glitches with stereo not working. The TVs have gone - no big loss for now. Much quieter than I remember but hopefully not for long. Btw, the loos in the basement were pretty impressive.
