Bistro West 156 has been a very popular neighbourhood restaurant on Burton Road Didsbury since opening its doors in 2002. Positioned opposite the Metropolitan pub on the corner of vibrant Lapwing Lane, it's owned and run by a husband and wife team who are both trained chefs and alternate both front and back of house. Passionate about food and hospitality, they have both been in catering all their lives and even met at catering college. Intimate, cosy, rustic and arty, think a little Bo-Ho chic, a very relaxed bistro style restaurant. The restaurant has 30 covers and when weather permits an al fresco area for 12 diners. Offering modern British and European cuisine with popular dishes including homemade Fish Pie, Lamb Tagine and Steak Frites. The menus are seasonal and use locally sourced produce, organic where possible. A small but well chosen wine list offers wines from £13.95 and they hold regular food and wine evenings. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serving drinks and cakes all day, they have local artists work on exhibition and they have just been nominated for the Gordon Ramsay ‘Best Local Restaurant’ search. Open for breakfast and lunch Monday-Wednesday 10-3pm, Thursday-Saturday 10-3pm and dinner Monday-Saturday 6-10pm. Closed Sundays.

The award-winning Folk Café Bar on Didsbury’s Burton Road is an elegant venue that attracts all age groups. It picked up the ‘Best Coffee Bar & Casual Dining’ award at the 2009 Manchester Food & Drink Festival and serves fresh, home-made food from 10am right through until 11pm, Tuesday to Sunday. The eclectic décor runs the gamut from understated luxury through to the rough and ready with gilded wallpaper, wooden flooring rescued from a school gym and palm trees adorning the entrance – no surprise then that the owner comes from a design background. Folk Café Bar can seat 36 inside – some in private booths – and a similar number outside and serves a wide range of healthy dishes that will appeal to meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans. There are salads, deli and mezze boards, home-made burgers, hot and cold sandwiches and an all-day breakfast served until 4pm. There is also a good selection of wines.available and full wifi internet access. At weekends, the mood changes in the evening when there’s a DJ playing chill-out music.

A fixture on Didsbury’s Burton Road since 1987, Great Kathmandu is one of the oldest Nepalese restaurants in the Manchester area. Right on the corner of Lapwing Lane and Burton Road, the 80-cover restaurant has recently been refurbished and has large bay windows looking out onto the street. Head Chef Chandra Kumar KC along with Chef Dhurba Dangol cooks authentic Nepali dishes that have been passed down through the generations and all pastes, spices, paneer and yoghurt are produced in-house by Chandra himself. Specialities include the Chandane Dry Fry, succulent pieces of chicken or lamb cooked with herbs and spices in traditional Nepalese style and the fiery Chicken Khorsani, cooked with fresh green chillies, ginger and spices and one not for the faint of heart. Their Murgi Masala (for two) requires 24 hours notice and is a whole chicken marinated in a special sauce, cooked with spices and served with biryani. All the Indian classics are also available on the menu and most of the fish and meat dishes can be cooked as vegetarian dishes. Great Kathmandu is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner and has been picked by the Observer as one of the best Indian restaurants in the UK and features in the Hardens guide.

It’s located in the heart of Didsbury Village and the owner has 30 years in the business with 18 of them as head chef at Café Istanbul in the city centre. Istanbul Grill’s food is a fresh and modern take on Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine with everything halal. Cuisine is Modern European with everything made fresh daily on the premises and Jem's passion for food shines through. Little Samsi, located opposite Christies hospital, opened its doors in Withington in 2008. It's part of the Samsi group which has become the biggest importer of fine Japanese food and drink in the North West. The first Samsi was established in 1992 in central Manchester offering a deli, restaurant and supermarket in one building and they have recently added a new Japanese Izakaya pub in the basement. The most recent Samsi also opened in 2008 in Spinningfields. Little Samsi offers great-value Japanese food to eat in or to take away, including a new range of Japanese ready meals in noodle, bento lunchbox and sushi packs. The small restaurant only has 20 covers and is very popular. It has a great atmosphere and happy staff and it's unlicensed so you can take your own booze, although they do have a range of soft drinks available. The menu offer traditional and healthy food with choices suitable for both the first timer and the connoisseur. An all-day menu is available from 11am-10pm and is supplemented by a lunch time choice, available from 11am-4pm offering sandwiches and Udon or Soba noodle dishes, all under £4. In the evening there is also an additional choice of larger noodle dish portions -- still costing under £5 -- and a choice of Deluxe Bento Boxes, providing a complete meal including two pieces of Sushi, one potato Croquette, Edamame, Miso soup, a main course and rice or noodles. The main menu has a variety of Sushi starting at £1.80 for two pieces, starters including Teriyaki, Miso and Gyoza and mains of rice, Udon or Ramen dishes and regular Bentos.

Located on Burton Road in Didsbury, Love 2 Eat is a fabulous foodie addition to the community. Run by Penny who is passionate about food and drink, this deli/ food boutique/restaurant has a lot to shout about. It's all about really good ingredients treated with love and respect; organic (when possible), local (as much as they can bake, make, find, forage and buy from producers) and attention to detail from top quality teas and coffee, deli produce and homemade to slowly cooked comfort food with bags of flavour. Daytime sees cakes, biscuits, pies, pates, local cheeses and so much more to eat in or take away. The menu changes daily and features Curries, Tagines, and French chef Guillaume makes a mean coq au vin and boeuf bourguignon. The double-fronted shop has some outside seating and inside a mix of distressed French furniture, banquette seating and shelves stacked with gourmet goodies. There is plenty going on here as well, families come down after school for the Children’s Story Time and there is poetry and music for all ages. On Mondays there is a Supper Club and on Fridays regular themed nights such as 'Curry & Bingo' or 'Fondue & Connect 4', 'Pie Mash & Jenga', all adding a sense of fun. They sell a range of interesting wines and organic beers from the Marble Brewery in town, although you can bring your own favourites with you for a small corkage charge. Open daily 10am-11pm.

Located on the burgeoning dining hot spot of Burton Road in West Didsbury, Verso is now in its second year and this chilled out bar and restaurant has developed a loyal local following for its quality food and drink and social scene.
