Bluechairs

Have eaten here many times and it is one of most consistently good restaurants in the west country. The flavours are exceptional, the chef has a faultless palette and cooks classic dishes with great finesse. The £15 lunch has to be one of the best bargains around.

My first time here and it was OK. I wasn't blown away by it, the portions were adequate but the dishes could have been a bit more interesting. I had mostly meat on my plate and a bit of salad and it would have been nice at 15 quid a plate to have some traditional side dishes to go with it. Maybe a bit of hummus or some green beans, just something to make it more interesting. I would go back but probably just for lunch to see what they offer. 6.5/10 from me.

Oh no ! Not another Indian . Well that's what my husband said. How wrong was he ! Just like the review said by one of the regulars at blue Ginger, it's the sign on the window that attracted us to the restaurant. I totally agree what a logo ! I bet they get alot of customers coming in after Reading that on the window , u can't miss it it's on a orange background with black writing . Well soon as we went in we was made welcome & seated. I must say this is the place to be if you want to enjoy some very high standard of Indian food it easily gets 10/10. And we got our own drinks there's no corkage charge . Good luck boys ! And no you ain't just another Indian restaurant ! U are very special ! Add us to your regular list !

Well we all know there's a recession at the moment so we have cut down on most luxuries in life. Regardless we still have to eat ! What attracted me to blue Ginger was their logo on the window which reads - don't let the cost of drinking out stop you eating out !  Who ever came out with this logo must be a very clever business person . Well that's straight to the point . Me and my husband and kids went in for a meal. We are regular curry eaters. But have had to cut down. Because of the price of wines and spirits in restaurant. We where surprised when we got our bill, me and my husband worked out it was 40% cheaper then a licensed restaurant. No wonder they are so busy ! The food is 10/10 Service 10/10 Bill 10/10 Thanks alot and good luck , just keep up the good work and the only way is up for u gentlemen . will see u soon Helen xxxx

We were staying up at the Cleeve House in Porlock and luckily decided to eat at Piggy in the middle a couple of weeks ago (Mid July 2010) with four family members - we had the best meal of our holiday by far - excellent local produce expertly cooked and accompanied by excellent service and wines. Try the lamb cultlets. The wine list was short but carefully chosen - including a really excellent McLaren vale shiraz - we had to have two bottles just to make sure it was that good. If you are visiting Porlock don't miss this dining opportunity !!

Blue ginger has got to be the best restaurant in Bristol. The waiters can all speak English and the foods excellent. I love Indian food and this has 1 ova all the others.bring ur own alcohol and sit at the table as long as u want which is great.the plates and cutlery are first class and the place is very clean. We had 2 starters, main courses, rice and naan, the bill was only £26. Fantastic and wish u all the success. Well done lads keep up the good work.

I have to say that my visit to Hall & Woodhouse was very disappointing. Poor service, indifferent menu, average food and exorbitant prices. I ordered an egg mayonnaise sandwich. It was described on the menu as 'Proper Egg Mayonnaise'. The sandwich arrived on a large enamel plate (all part of the rather self conscious retro branding) with some limp and inedible lettuce garnish. Nothing else. Just two thick slices of ordinary brown bread with a rather mean filling of (proper?) egg mayonnaise. The price? £6.50. My fellow diners had an equally underwhelming selection of sandwiches, the worst of which are the flat bread type since they are even less impressive and even more overpriced. The service was slow; the chips (skinny chips which were even more hideous than McDonald's) arrived some time later and not with the sandwiches. The soft drinks on offer were all from bottles - nothing fresh. The location is interesting but they are going to have to get the important things right - food, value for money and service. I will certainly not go back and I was advise others to proceed with caution. Definitely a case of style over substance ....

Went to the opening night of this pub / bar. Very nice interior and atmosphere with no loud music or raucous behaviour. The landlord was very friendly and accommodating. Good place to be for couples or groups of friends who do not want to visit the rowdier bars on this street. It was such a contrast to the other bars where loud music and bad behaviour seem to prevail. I look forward to visiting for food, I hear they have introduced a Sunday Roast and their sandwiches sound particularly good, especially the homemade fish finger with watercress!

my friend and I have been banned for offering a waitress a christian leaflet. what is the UK coming to? we gat a better reception from the Muslims- blue Ginger and Rajpoot. we had been going to the Bear for years- far longer then the waiters and the new management

Bear and Swan – Blagdon
Two Christians

we were banned for giving a christian leaflet to a customer, and for allegedly complaining about the food- a complete lie. we had been going there for years.

Haven't been for a while - my friend and I called in for a last drink or 2 on a Saturday evening. We had a very warm welcome and enjoyed some fab wine in the lovely rustic charm of the bar area. Ended up wishing we'd eaten there too. So we'll be back there soon!

Visited this venue at end of May 2010. The previous comments about booking are, to say the least, generous. Tried booking by phone TWICE......not a dicky bird!! As I work locally I then went in to book. Should have realised at this point that things didn't look good!!! Anyway, eventually got owner to agree a booking for 6. Turned up for meal and table prepared. Owner spent most of evening "doing paperwork" and ignored his (paying) clientele. The one waitress, who has been there for 28 years, we felt should should not be in a service industry. Many minor niggles, but when it came to the coffee, I could not believe what happened. Having requested a sweetener I was informed, abruptly that it was the first time in 28 years she had been asked for some, and informed me , that as I had had a desert, I obviously didn't need sweeteners!!! I then informed her that I was diabetic, and if I wanted a sweetener I felt she should have them in the restaurant. At the same time my wife asked for HOT milk with her coffee. The waitress then said , very rudely "No, we don't have fresh milk. If we had that and sweeteners we would have to put our prices up" When the chef departed she looked like thunder as well. Having said all that, the food was adequate, not "French", We obviously left no tip, and being well known around town we now positively advise people not to visit this eaterie. Their loss, they should get themselves sorted out.

La Bonne Vie – Taunton

Having read all the brilliant reviews on this website, I decided to try blue ginger. Firstly, when i got there, i was disappointed by quiet atmosphere, we were the only customers there. Some Indians are bustling but this one, probably because it is new, was practically empty. We looked at the menu and they have a mishmash of things, including some fruity curries and nans which took me by surprise. The service was below average, with the waiters not being attentive considering the place was dead. They don't serve alcohol either which really disappointed us :( Having read some of the reviews again on this page, i realised they are very similar in what they say, which is quite suspicious. Try it or yourself and see, but i speak as a genuine visiting customer and this was my experience of blue ginger. I would stick to my other Indian whitchurch local ;)

Disappointed by food, although the venue itself is nice. Wouldn't recommend to a friend too expensive and not worth the value. Sorry but that my opinion!
